Five on Friday #173

EINS - Random Shit

Let's start this bitch off with an announcement that will come as a shock to MANY of you.  I got 4 hours of sleep last night because my body hates me and anytime something travel related happens in my life, my body refuses to do things it NEEDS to do (i.e. sleep).  But that is not the announcement. This is the announcement: I chose to leave my house this morning without a lint ball in my pocket.  😱😱

Teh German and I rode together to work this morning since he is dropping me off at the airport later, and I mentioned my deficiency before I pulled out of the garage and he said, "Are you sure today is the day to not have a lint ball?  We're still home, you can go get one."

^^That's why I married him, right there.  He gets me.  He also doesn't make fun of the fact that I use a lint ball as a comfort object because I am a lady-child and that's how I deal with my anxiety.  He knows that today will be a struggle, probably, and being lint-ball-less is probably not my best life choice.

But fret not, Gentle Readers.. I have 2 lint balls stashed away.  1 in my wallet and 1 in my backpack.  This girl ain't no fool.

-As the week before a week off of school AND a planned day of missed class (today), this week went crazy smooth.  I'm at that point that I am worried about my assignments, but I'm not going to lose my mind stressing over that shit.  I'm not going to get overly frustrated at things I do not understand.  If you're a regular Gentle Reader, you'll recognize this zen in my pendulum of life.  I will inevitably lose my shit over simple things in a few weeks/months, but I always enjoy this zen.

-I found a new poet/motivational meme-r that I've fallen in love with, Morgan Harper Nichols.  Expect to see a LOT of her work around here in the future.

-One of my coworkers has been helping me with my computer science class.  He does a lot of coding, so it wasn't difficult for him to refresh his assembly language skills.  Pretty sure he's going to be the difference between me passing (C or lower) or me doing pretty good (A/B).

-On Wednesday, I was going to arrange to go in early to take a quiz for my computer science class on Friday, but after the instructor announced no quiz on Friday or the Monday we return from Thanksgiving break, I was free like a bird.  I had already arranged to do my German essay on Wednesday so missing German class on Friday was already planned.  Sooo, Thursday was my Friday, so today?  This is me:

-It has been grey, rainy, and under 65°F for most of the week.  This is me:

-I bought a ream of engineering paper at the start of the semester.  Have I EVER used it?  YES.  To sit my computer on to make it higher.  Have I written on a single sheet of that overpriced green paper?  NO.  I'm only keeping it around since I have a follow-on class in the spring.  Maybe I'll use it then?  HAHAHHA.

-I started an audiobook and gave it a DNF after 2.5 hours because I hated the narrator's voice so much and because the story was annoying me and the characters were annoying me and all that annoyance was making me grouchy and that's just not acceptable.  Then, I started reading the sequel to Firefly Lane since it had come through from the library and I wasn't really enjoying it, but I hadn't listened to more than hour, so I was going to give it a chance.  When I went to my phone later to continue listening, the audiobook had been returned to the library and that helped me decide that now was not the time for that book.

For my travels, I have 2 Ilona Andrews ebooks (one of which won't take long since it's a novella) + all the Kindle First novels I've gotten through Amazon that I've never read...  On audio, I have The Tattooist of Auschwitz and A Court of Thorns and Roses.

-I've sometimes started wearing mascara to make it look like I attempted to give a fuck.  The problem is that I rub my eyes all the time and my lashes are pretty long, so the mascara gets everywhere... sooooo my solution is to ensure that the mascara dries so it doesn't get everywhere...

blow drying my eyelashes.
This is a thing now.
You're welcome.
If it was a thing before now, why did no one tell me?

-Yesterday, I kept having this feeling that I had unaccomplished tasks to handle, homework, work, something.  I couldn't figure it out.  That's what happens when you accomplish everything early so you don't have to worry about it during vacation.  It's so uncomfortable....

THENNNN, in the afternoon, my computer science instructor emailed me to tell me that the assignment I had turned in earlier that day was incorrect because I used code that we weren't supposed to use.. even though NOT using those code instructions was NOT mentioned in the instructions.  Now I have to do homework over the break and that makes me stabby.

-GUESS WHAT TODAY IS?!?!?!
The start of my runcation with Teh Running Bestie and Matilda!!!!  YYYAAYY!!!

Teh Running Bestie made certain that we were flying into the same airport this time.  Actually, we both have connections in Atlanta and we'll be flying together from ATL.  #WIN.  This time, we're headed to Tulsa, OK for the Route 66 5k on Saturday and the Half Marathon on Sunday.

-There was a crisis last night and this morning regarding flights.  Last night was dealing with Teh Running Bestie and I being on the standby list to fly from ATL to TUL, which was handled (we're not actually on standby, but we bought the cheap tickets which means our seats aren't assigned until we get to ATL).  This morning, Matilda wasn't able to fly out because of the weather, so she missed her connection.  What this really means is that we could all be in ATL at the same time today before we get to Tulsa and if you feel tremors, don't worry.  It's just the sonic boom from greatness all being in the same place.  NBD.

-During the Charleston Half Marathon in January, I ran with an older dude who was from Tulsa, who suggested trying bbq bologna if I was ever there.  In January, I wasn't planning on being in Tulsa...ever.. Yet, I'll be there tonight.  Just goes to show... Life is like a box of chocolates.  You never know what you're gonna get.

-Goals for Thanksgiving Break:
  • watch (prob not in this order):
    • Sweet Home Alabama
    • Catch & Release
    • City of Angels
  • do a puzzle?
  • read some/a books
  • NO SCHOOL!!!
  • maybe get a post run massage?

ZWEI - Money Shit

-self-lunch-date on Saturday
-2 children's sized bun beanies from Amazon
-new belt
-new watchband for the Garmin that Teh Running Bestie is letting me test out
-Thursday sweet tea
-$1 measuring cups for the office so I didn't have to do any Calc2-esque math using a measuring spoon or other random ounce sized bowl.
-Bojangles gravy biscuit, yolo bitches.

DREI - From My Phone Shit

Facebook went down on Monday.
The news didn't even report it (that I saw).

I definitely KNOW who the guilty party was that did this..
But Teh German came upstairs later and yelled at the NOT guilty party and I had to correct him...

Packing for a runcation woes...

Just call me Rainbow Brite.
I'm going to be so color mismatched.
This has led me to believe that I need to invest in some race outfits for cold weather.

Speaking of cold weather, I bought a bun beanie.
It was waaaayyy to large for Queen Tiny Head (that'd be me, kthx).
I got on Amazon and ordered a children's size bun beanie.
Please keep your fingers crossed for Queen Tiny Head.

Apple and stuffing stuffed pork chops.
The original recipe called for canned apple pie mix... Uhhhh NO.
I wouldn't call myself the Queen of Healthy Choices, but nothing about canned apple pie mix seems remotely healthy.
Instead, I chopped up some apples, added some seasoning, sauteed, then stuffed chops.

Why can't you bring a turkey to church?
They use fowl language.
I guess some would say this also applies to me.

When do you serve tofuturkey?
Pranksgiving

Office Thanksgiving.
#YOLO
Sooo much delicious food.
I couldn't even eat dinner.
I mean, I saved room for dessert, but when I got home Thurs night, I didn't bother with dinner.

When you don't trust airlines with your checked luggage so you pull out the absolute bare essentials you cannot purchase replacements for under dire circumstances (i.e. a sports bra and running shoes).

VIER - From the Internet Shit

A friend shared this article with me about how to pluralize last name and my mind was blown.  There are things they don't tell you before you get married.... like how to pluralize your new last name that ends with an 's' and you've never experienced that before.

Here, I'll just tell you.  If your last name ENDS with an 's', add 'es' after the 's'.
If your last name does not end with an 's', add an 's' after the last letter and you're done.
NO APOSTROPHES, LEUTE (people)!

My Results:
Savage Garden - I Knew I Loved You was #1 in early Feb 2000..But, I looked up the top songs for the year (2000), which yielded much better results...
Britney Spears - Oops... I Did It Again
NSYNC - Bye Bye Bye, It's Gonna Be Me
Bon Jovi - It's My Life
3 Doors Down - Kryptonite
Eminem - The Real Slim Shady
U2 - Beautiful Day

....
there were other song, but these stuck out the most for me.

What people would say probably MOST describes me, based on title alone:
Nelly - Country Grammar

And my personal anthem, lol:
Darude - Sandstorm

^^ if you do not know this song, I need you to go flog yourself while listening to it on YouTube on repeat.

FÜNF - Things that made me happy this week

  1. Taking care of my Friday problems on Wednesday.
  2. Recoding my assignment to be "correct" with no issues.
  3. Work Thanksgiving.
  4. Teh German and I riding to work together this morning.  Awwww.
  5. Morgan Harper Nichols poems.
  6. Cold weather.  Lawd, I love a hoodie, but specifically, I love kangaroo pockets for optimal lint ball storage and my cold fingers!
  7. The Garmin watch Teh Running Bestie is letting me test out.  Even if this fucking thing doesn't count my flights of stairs.
  8. Rain and cold.  I know, I'm weird.
  9. Books.  All the books.
  10. RUNCATIONS!!!!

Happy Friday, Gentle Readers.

  1. Happy Runcation! I was not aware of eyelash blow drying. Of course I don't even blow dry my hair so that could be why... The comments about the lint ball made me aww.

  2. Following that Insta account now! Love it! I hate that feeling when you know there is something else you need to do, but you can't think of it. Also, hate when you can't sleep when you KNOW you need to!
