Weekend Review {6/19}

FRIDAY

Friday morning, I actually got up when Teh German got up (a first since my surgery) and went downstairs to accomplish work things.  I had an Ortho appt at 1045, and I knew that would eat up at least 1.5 hours of my day since it always takes the Ortho forrrreevvvarrrrr...

Roux's Humom had agreed to take me to my appointment so Teh German wouldn't have to be out of work for half a day.  She came to get me at 10 and we made a pit stop at Starbucks, then headed to the doctor's office a lot early.  Oops.

After an x-ray of my hip, my stitches were finally removed!  HOORRRAYYY!!  They were starting to itch.  When the Ortho came in, he explained what he did during the procedure and when I admitted that I had been one-crutchin' around the house, he glared at me.  I begged him to let me drive and he said that he didn't suggest it, but I could.  He pointed out that if I got into an accident while wearing my brace, any attorney in town would have a field day with me.  That was enough to scare me into NOT driving.

The overall take aways were:
-I need to not be one-crutchin'.
-I should not drive yet.
-I will be on crutches for another 2 weeks, then another week to wean myself off of them (using one crutch).
-I do not have a date that I no longer have to wear my hip brace.  Maybe by 2020?  (<-Go back in 4 weeks for another assessment.  Hopefully no glares at this one!

After the appointment, Roux's Humom brought me to the commissary and I was like a kid in a candy store.. except with meats and imported items.  What would have cost me no less than $300 at Publix, cost me $120 at the commissary.  #win

After Roux's Humom dropped me off and delivered my groceries inside, she headed home, I put away the groceries, I finished up my work day and I went upstairs to take a nap with the dogs.  When I woke up, I took the opportunity to print the last of the envelopes for invites that needed to be sent.  When Teh German came home, I suggested Sesame for dinner and he didn't need his arm twisted.

We received a package for Pax and Meri on Thursday with no name saying who it was from. It was a big Lamb Chop, which I had meant to order.  Since they had already gotten cheese sticks and we were about to leave, I didn't want to give the toy to them.  AND they had already gotten new toys earlier in the week.  So I waited.  Friday, 2 more packages arrived for Pax and Meri and it was toys like Meri's mice, except bees and chipmunks.  Since Teh German was home to help me, I finally distributed the toys.  Meri got the wrong hedgehog that I had ordered, Pax got Lamb Chop, and I tried to give Meri a bee, but Pax took it, so then I gave her another bee.  I had Teh German put the extra toys away for another day.

The bigger lesson of the toys was that Teh Running Bestie had claimed she was not the sender of Lamb Chop on Thursday when I asked her.  Roux's Humom said it wasn't her either.  I seriously was at a loss as to who would have sent the toys.  Soooo I did some stalking.  The Amazon slips have QR codes you can scan to send a thank you.  I had asked Teh German to investigate this situation on Thursday night and he got no results.  Amateur.  I scanned the QR code and Amazon generated a thank you note to [Teh Running Bestie] and I told her she was caught!  No one stalks like Teh Megan stalks.  #neverforger

After distributing toys, we headed to Sesame for dinner.  I hadn't really eaten lunch, which isn't really abnormal these days, so I ate all the things.  I ordered a sweet tea (which I had been looking forward to alllll daaayyyy loooonnnggg) and an adult milkshake and a sandwich.  The only thing I didn't order was dessert, but only because I had the milkshake.  I won't lie.  I had to adjust my hip brace to be a little more loose to allow for more space for food.  Hip brace = an external LAP band.

When we got home, we headed over to Teh PT House for smoking hour.  By 10:30, we were all tired and Teh German and I came home and went to bed.

SATURDAY

Saturday morning we kinda slept in.  I woke up Teh German around 0900 so we could have a slow start to the morning.  We had a skype date with Auntie P scheduled at noon and then brunch at 1:00.  Getting up "early" gave us a chance to get showered so we could be ready to go whenever we finished our skype date.

Snuggles with Meri and her bee on Saturday morning.
I got the ass end and she was using Teh German as her pillow.

We learned that Opa will not being coming for the wedding, which was a bit disappointing.  Of course, we understand that 1- it's expensive, 2- it's far, 3- he and his partner are old.  This doesn't exempt him from sending back my our RSVP card!!

Immediately after our Skype date, we loaded into Baloo with Teh PT Family and headed to Slightly North of Broad (or SNOB) for brunch.  I'm always down for a new place and Teh PT Family had a gift certificate they needed to finish off.. and well, you don't have to twist my arm.

Crab cake benedict

The food was good, but like always with downtown, overpriced.  I could have gotten exactly the same thing in Mount Pleasant or Summerville for slightly cheaper.  #downtownproblems  Nonetheless, it was nice to go to brunch downtown and not have to wait a million years on a table.  After brunch, we headed to Lowes in Summerville to pick up some items for Teh PT Family since they weren't able to fit in their SUV.  This was also the reason that we took Baloo instead of riding with them.  Despite the rain, I still got out to check out the clearance section in the parking lot, like every good homeowner would.  I saved some dollas by not finding anything, but that's ok.

I had left the garage open for when Teh German was finished unloading the truck and apparently we had a visitor in the garage!  Teh German relocated him to near the retention pond.
Before we left, Teh PT Wife had to relocate him back to the grass since he was in the middle of the street.

Once we got home, I was tired and sweaty and starting to hurt, so I came home and medicated.  Teh PT Wife and I had agreed to go back out to Walmart to pick up some items, but due to storms in the area, a power grid had been knocked out and Walmart didn't have any power.  We waited a bit and called one of the neighboring businesses to ensure they had power before heading out.  Then when we got to Walmart, they were still closed... sooo we made the best of it and went to Target and walked out with way more than the 1-3 items that we, collectively, needed.  #Targetproblems  We also got Starbucks on our way in.  #notsorry

That dark mint frap is on point.
I should have had them add some of the smores marshmallow topping.
#nexttime

It was as we were halfway home that Teh German called and asked if we had gotten lost.  I confirmed that we had not, but we would be home soon.  After getting home, Teh German carried our items to our house and helped me unpack them.  We had a quick dinner and eventually headed back over to Teh PT house with Meri and Pax.  Teh PT Wife and I worked on a puzzle designed by Satan himself while Teh German and Teh PT Husband did their cigar/beer thing.

Finally, it was late and all the puzzle pieces were looking the same, so we called it a night.

SUNDAY

Sunday morning we slept in until 1030.  It was delightful.  We had zero plans for the day.  After a breakfast of leftovers, our across the street neighbors came over to check up on me and drop off some lemon cake, since they know it is one of my favorites.

Teh German eventually decided to go on a motorcycle ride, without me (of course) after I told him that he shouldn't punish himself and not ride just because I can't ride.  You know how sometimes you say thing and you mean it, but you don't.  That was one of those things.  It's ok though because I would have been hot and miserable on a ride anyways, so this handicap of mine is turning out to be a solid life excuse for so many things.

While Teh German was gone, I puzzled on my Kindle and finished listening to Red Rising.  In the last 25% I finally got hooked and started enjoying it.  My Kindle died right after the book ended, so perfect time.  Teh German came home within 15 minutes of my book ending, so all-in-all, perfect timing.

Later in the afternoon, Teh PT Wife asked if I wanted to puzzle and I said yes.  Teh German asked Teh PT Husband if he wanted to come over to our house to smoke, which was acceptable.  Around 9:30, I was finally tired and we called it quits on the puzzle.  After I got home, Teh PT Husband headed home and then Teh German wanted dinner.

Max was only interested in distracting us from our puzzle.
Marcie was supervising.

All the while, Pax and Meri were at our house and Pax has learned that the green thing is a dog bed!

After some noms, it was time for bedtime.

____________________________________________________

Overall, a very relaxing weekend.  I am a little disappointed not to be able to drive yet, but I'd rather have to use Teh German's taxi services than be sued for an accident I didn't cause.  #priorities

I got some errands done, which is good and bad since it means I still didn't get a chance to use my instacart thing for grocery delivery.  Oh yes.  Grocery DELIVERY.  I love 2017.  I barely touched my phone for most of the weekend, which is always a good time.

Today was a big day.  Our camera system got installed!  Pax and Meri were on their best behavior and after the 2nd time the installers came inside, they were no longer interested in them and just laid in their beds napping.  #bestestpuppiesinthewholewideworld

3 more weeks till no more crutches!!!!  I think I might start a countdown.

Confessions {11/11}

-The day we Confessers have long awaited has arrived.  Kathy is back in the game!  Can we all just send up a "praise Jesus?"  Also, I support the choice of Mr. Wickham as our new button hunk.  #2005prideandprejudiceFTW

More Coffee Less Talky

-I snuck in a weekend review post on Tuesday morning AFTER the book link up, but I back dated it for prosperity.  It talks all about house hunting if you missed it (aka, if you don't use a feed reader).  #myblogmyrules

-Within 5 minutes of receiving the Cards Against Humanity (CAH) Hanukkah gifts announcement email, I was signed up and paid for.  I even watch the entire video because I didn't realize I could scroll to the bottom of the page to skip it.  #CAHaddict #YesIhaveALLtheexpansions

-I am CRUSHED that this is the last year CAH are doing the holiday gifts.  #firstworldproblem

-I loathe when people try to recall emails.  No, just send out a correction so I have 1 less email in my inbox from you.  #getbetterattechnology #thisis2015

-Moving outside of the 526 beltway means finding a new Crossfit gym.  From a quick search, it looks like the gym we currently go to has the highest prices in the area.... and there's not even a water fountain/dispenser.  #movingwoes #whatamIpayingfor

-I haven't read my new StoryPeople book yet and it arrived on Monday evening.  #failure

-Seeing that the Senate passed a bill to prohibit detainees from coming into the US from GTMO kinda gave me a chuckle.  Not that I was overly concerned, but the irony of them possibly being relocated to Charleston was maybe a bit too soon for this girl.  #politicsarestupid

-I give ZERO fucks about what color my cup is at Starbucks and/or what is on it and I'm annoyed that people are making such a big deal out of it, even the backlashers.  #IDGAF #stahp

-I rarely respond to emails after I leave work unless I get on my laptop at home because I dislike composing any text whatsoever on Suzy (my phone).  #Ihatevirtualkeyboards #technologywoes #commentreponsedelay

-I'm working from home today and I'm stupid excited about it because that means I get to crop ALL THE IMAGES!!!  This sounds ridiculous, but Word 2016 for Mac doesn't include a crop feature for images, but Word 2016 for Windows does.  It's stupid, but true.  My documents are going to lose baggage today!  #techwriterproblems

-Do you remember 4 years ago when everyone was getting married because it was 11/11/11?  Same for 11/12/13 and 12/13/14?  #Iwantedtobethatcool #sogladImissedthatboat

-Teh German and I have been having some serious life discussions recently.  Not just about the house, but about kids.. and not just like, yeah let's have kids one day, but "My IUD runs out in March 2017 which we've decided is too soon, but definitely within 5 years from now" kind of conversations.  I even told Teh German it was difficult for me to think about no longer being on the 10 year plan (10 years, no babies (so essentially when I turned 18, then 20, no kids for 10 years (check))) and maybe we needed to have a mourning party for all those unfertilized eggs.  #10yearplan #grieving #adulting

-I unintentionally (after I realized I was going to be late) skipped my running class last night to look at houses with Teh German after work.  We stopped by one house about 15 minutes before the agent was supposed to leave, so she gave us the key and told us to take our time looking at the house and drop the key in the box when we were done (if she wasn't there).  #wechristenedsomeoneshouseandtheywillneverknow #adultingdoneright #Weshouldntbeleftunsupervised

-We think we have narrowed down our search to 2 builders but now we are facing a decision dilemma.  One house is in a very convenient location but we're afraid might be too small in a few years with dogs and kids.  The other house feels slightly too large (right now) and isn't in the most convenient location.  They are similarly priced, so today my goal is to finish all my image cropping and communicate with agents about pricing so we can see which is the better deal for what we want and to discuss lots and details.  #somanydecisions #somanychoices

-TEH MD-AR IS ON HER WAY TO CHARLESTON RIGHT NOW AND I'M SO UNBEARABLY EXCITED THAT I ALMOST CAN'T STAND MYSELF.  She's bringing Olive-Walive and Zoey and we're gonna run for a medal and tour Charleston and eat and discuss house buying and hang out with Teh German (they've met via Skype when I was in MD in Sept) and ALL THE THINGS!!!

-Finally, it's Veteran's Day and while the free food is cool, it's about honoring those who took the oath and put on a uniform.  I never understood these random "America" holidays until after joining the Navy.  They used to just be days that we weren't in school #hellyeah.  I get it now.  Also, Veteran's Day is different from Memorial Day.  Veteran's Day is about everyone who ever served.  Memorial Day is about those who died while serving.  #lessonoftheday #freedomisntfree

Weekend/Vacation Review {9/16-22}

I misjudged my free time on my "vacation" and didn't actually get to sit down and write blogs like I had planned.  Real life has really been taking over lately* and well.. #sorrynotsorry

WEDNESDAY

After Teh German left for work, I packed up Yurtle, loaded up Phil and Meri, and we were MD bound!  The dog park at Roanoke Rapids, NC (exit 173) is really my new favorite thing for east coast road trips.  I'm not sure who's good idea that was, but I'd kiss both of their cheeks for it.  Meri doesn't like doing her business on a leash, so it's right around halfway and perfect.  I tried not to stress about travel time and wasn't in a rush when I stopped.  I made it about 8-8.5 hours after I left Charleston, so right on time.

Teh MD Adult Roomie and I hung out and made dinner, then we went out and got our nails done (which was an experience because the lady and I had several clashes (wtf why is so hard to pain the ENTIRE nail? don't leave huge lines on the side because my nail is wider than the brush.  NO.  Just no.) and I'm pretty sure she called me nasty things in whatever language she was speaking, then she left my tip on her table, which I know she saw because she had to give me change for a $100 so I could even leave her a tip #bitchplease) and did some shopping at Ross (ALL THE STRIPED DRESSES!!!!).  Then we came home and chatted and played with puppies.  Later, I skyped with Teh German until it was bedtime.

THURSDAY

After some snuggles with Olive and Meri and Zoey, I finally got up and went on my last run before the 1/2.  It was a glorious MD run.  I forgot how much I enjoyed the scenery on my Pax runs.

After 4.5 glorious miles with minor pains, I headed back to Teh MD AR's house to shower and get ready for a lunch date at Noodles and Company, which I think I've decided isn't my favorite.  That and the lady didn't clarify about small or large portions, so I didn't eat 1/2 of what I was given.  After lunch, I returned the reject dresses for Teh MD-AR and I to Ross, picked up some stuff at Target (to include some awesome adhesive mustaches that Meri subsequently ate because #goatdog and some $5 men's pj pants in case it was chilly the morning of the race), and hit up Old Navy since it has been a long time since I've been in there and Teh MD-AR showed me a super cute dress she had gotten from there and I needed super cute dresses (ok, really I don't need more dresses, but not the point, kthx).  I ended up with 2 dresses, 1 pair of jeans, and the desire to buy another dress and another pair of jeans but they didn't have my size and apparently Old Navy isn't like Victoria's Secret who will order stuff on their website for you and have it shipped to your house (for free, #yesplease).  Your loss Old Navy, your loss.

I finally headed back home and took a nap.  It was an obligation of being on vacation that I was happy to fulfill.  The dogs napped with me but Meri was particularly adorable.

Teh MD-AR and I had dinner with Teh Soccer Mom at Red Robin (nommm).  After overstaying our welcome (#notsorry), we finally decided to head out.  Teh MD-AR and I headed to Target to check out the Halloween section (no foam heads, wtf?) and look for fall table linens (yeah, we all know that wasn't something I was looking for).  After we headed home and discovered that Meri had eaten the mustaches (she was the only one without a muzzle on, so I know she's guilty), I skyped again with Teh German and attempted (and failed) at going to bed early since Friday was an early start.

FRIDAY

A 0500 wake up was a bit earlier than my 0529 estimated awake time, but it was fine, even if I was grumbly at being awake so early.  Teh MD-AR and I made the annual trip to Richmond to get doggy teeth cleaned.  Everyone except for Meri went, which we learned probably wasn't a good thing since she was trying to #goatdog the crate.  Phil lost 2 teeth and I had to commit to brushing them more since he's got some serious gum recession on his back molars.  One tooth that was pulled was because it was broken and there was root exposure, so that wasn't on me.  Woot.  My poor boy was sooo stoned when we picked them up.

While we were waiting on the dogs, we went to breakfast and I got to wear my first jacket of the season (yay cold!).  After breakfast we decided to head to World Market, which wasn't open yet (that's what happens when you get up at the crack of dawn), so we wandered around Kohl's for a bit where I almost bought an awesome unicorn towel, but decided to save my $5.  The only reason we really even went into Kohl's was because there were Color Run flags outside the building for packet pick up.  If the run had been on Saturday instead of Sunday, I probably would have ran it.  I'm ridiuclous, I know... but I really, reallllllyyyy NEED that medal.  NEED.  Not want.  NEED.  The lady at the merchandise table tried to sell us tickets and I had to regretfully tell her I was running a 1/2 on Sunday instead.  I mean, in what world would I have ever said that before 2014?  None, ever.  #runnerproblems

Then we went to World Market where I picked up some gnocchi and adult root beers for the Megan-Gathering that evening.  After World Market, we decided to head to Barnes and Noble since I hadn't been in one for years.  We wandered around discussing books that were good (or not) and some creeper-mcgee-man was telling Teh MD-AR all about Star Wars bobble heads (he was wayyy too old to be as concerned as he was about Star Wars figurines) and I tried to give her an out by not being close by (she could have came and found me at anytime), but she endured creeper man until he finally wandered away.  She's a better person than me because I would have RBF-ed (resting bitch faced) him until he stopped talking and went away.

The vet still hadn't called after we were done at B&N so I looked for a park nearby since it was a nice day so we could sit outside and read (I came equipped with a Kindle and 2 hard copy books).  There happened to be one right across the street from the shopping center, which was convenient.  We waited there until the vet called around 1245.  On the way back to the vet, we stopped at a Vitamin Shoppe for me to pick up something similar to the O2 Gold that I had tried on my 11.7 mile run (fail) and then at Panera for lunch so I wouldn't get hangry.  Then we picked up the stoned dogs and headed back to Pax to make a snack for the Cards Against Humanity/Megan gathering.

After getting home, we discovered that Meri may or may not have some serious separation anxiety, completely based off the partially eaten wood inside Olive's crate...  It was the crate or a muzzle, which she likes even less, soooo yeah.  After we created a snack to share at the gathering, we headed over to Mr. Kilt and Teh Monopoly's house for socializing, snacks, and Cards Against Humanity.

We stayed until about 9pm, at which point we headed home to check on the dogs.  We had left the pups after feeding them dinner, which Zoe had been a bloody mess after.  Fortunately, other than some bloody drool spots, everyone was fine.  It was bedtime after we made sure all the dogs were ok.

SATURDAY

Saturday morning, the real activity started.  I tried to sleep in, but the dogs weren't having it.  I got up and got ready and Teh MD-AR and I left around the same time.  I headed to Teh Dive Buddy's house first off.  I arrived around 1230 and we walked and grabbed lunch.  One thing I love about DC is the walkability of everywhere.  We then headed to the Metro to head to the Armory to pick up my packet.... which is when the adventure started.  Apparently there were train issues, so our train was taking forever to come and when they announced around 2:15 that it would be more than 20 minutes until the train arrived, Teh Dive Buddy and I made the choice to literally run back to his place to get Yurtle and then drive to the Armory.  On my calendar, I had that the expo closed at 3 and I've since discovered that wasn't true.  Way to plan, Megan.  Gold star.  So we ran/walked back to his place, part of my run I was barefoot and had we been downtown, I probably would have been trotting through homeless pee puddles.  Yeah, one of my least good ideas before a 1/2 marathon?  Running barefoot through DC.  Although the alternative was running in flippy-floppies, which would have probably resulted in something worse, so ya know, pick your battles.

We made it to the Armory at 2:48 and I had even taken an exit that I wasn't supposed to, oops.  Either way, while I ran in to get my packet, Teh Dive Buddy drove Yurtle around.  The expo was complete crap, there were less than 10 vendors, 2-3 of them were athletic vendors, so I was able to pick up some gels and gummies for the race.  It was also super hot inside.  No bueno.  After picking up my packet, we headed to the hotel where Ms. Motivator and I were staying so I could park Yurtle, we could meet Ms. Motivator and friends, and then head to the Nationals game.

Teh Dive Buddy and I left the game early so we could go get dinner (and avoid the crowds).   We were gonna get mexican, but the place I had found was going to be closing before we would have arrived because of Metro delays.  Seriously, no bueno Metro.  Instead, we ended up at Johnny Rockets which was close to my hotel, which was perfect because I had been slightly concerned about walking by myself back to the hotel.  #alwayshaveabuddy

PB chocolate milkshake? Yes please, need.

After we finished dinner, Teh Dive Buddy and I parted ways.  We hadn't seen each other since I left GTMO in 2011, so it was awesome getting to catch up with him, and as always, we definitely had an adventure of a day.

When I got back to the hotel, Ms. Motivator and I chatted for a bit and got ready for bed.  We also Skyped with Teh German for a short bit.  I have this problem in life where I tell people things, but I can never remember who I tell what to.  I didn't realize that I hadn't told Ms. Motivator about the struggles that I'd been having with Mr. Scrooge.  She knew some of the issues, but not the whole timeline, so I caught her up.  Also, having talked to Teh German with me on Skype, she approved.  Finally, it was sleepy time after sending Teh German some sappy texts right before I fell asleep.

SUNDAY

Race day was finally upon me!  An earlier than expected wake-up was the start to the day.  I eventually got up and got ready, sweet texts from Teh German definitely helped (he actually set an alarm so he could wake up, text me before my race, then went back to sleep (#keeper)).  We were about a mile from the start, so we walked there.

This is what the Washington Monument looks like at 0600.
Gorgeous, right?!

I'm not gonna recap my race here, but the official results were 13.1(ish) miles in 2:10:35.  RunKeeper measured 13.5 miles in 2:11:33.  This is the first race I ever wanted to cry at the end because I was so glad it was over.  This was definitely not as delightful as the 11.7 miles the weekend before.

If you follow Teh Blog on FB, you may have seen where I posted about the guy who was running on prosthetic blades.  I have no right to complain, but Gentle Readers, it was a very difficult run for me and not because anything about the course or the weather... but all me.  Running from the Metro barefoot the day before, driving 8 hours, not seeing the chiropractor the week before, being tired, being stressed, being disappointed I didn't finish under 2 hours.  It wasn't pretty.  But I got the medal and I ran 13.1ish miles without stopping... And that stupid book (The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo) still wasn't finished after 2 hours of running!  Uuughhh.

Also, KT tape.. OMG.  At one point Ms. Motivator asked me if I was going to keep telling them how awesome it was, I told her yes because it was a miracle!  Thanks Alyssa for the guidance/peer pressure!

Teh MD-AR roomie ran the 5 miler and Ms. Motivator ran the 1/2.  Of course, selfies were mandatory.  After the race, we caught our breath and then headed back to the hotel to shower.   It was decided we go to Chili's for lunch, and that was the point that I realized I'd become a Charlestonian food snob.  I agreed because I was too tired to come up with a better suggestion, but nothing about chain restaurants appeal to me after being in Charleston.  I'm always willing to look up a recommendation on Yelp (even if it means getting almost there and realizing they are going to close before we arrive like what happened with Teh Dive Buddy on Saturday) before going to a chain restaurant.  #Charlestonproblems  I ended up parking at the opposite end of the parking garage than the restaurant was at, which meant more hobbling and having to find Yurtle.  I was so whiny and achy when I left DC that I knew a nap was unavoidable after I got home.

I actually ended up following/caravan-ing with Ms. Motivator's friends on the way back from DC since I happened to catch up to them and we were going about the same speed after that.  When I got home, I went straight upstairs and crashed.  My head was achy, my pieces were achy, I wanted very bad to be snuggled.  Eventually, I woke up and made my way downstairs (ouccchh) and hung out with Teh MD-AR and the puppy dogs.

Teh MD-AR made steaks and baked potatoes for dinner, which was perfect after my mostly unsatisfactory burrito from Chili's.  I tried to do some internetting, but it didn't really happen.  Is this what it feels like when blogging is slipping from your fingertips?  I finished off the evening with a Skype date with Teh German and then it was bedtime.

MONDAY

The dogs were insistent on no one sleeping in, so I got up and fed them and tried to do more internetting while hanging out with Teh Afternoon Kid.  Despite telling myself only 15 minutes, an hour later, I was shutting down the computer and getting ready to drive back to CHS.  After Teh MD-AR left for work, my motivation finally took hold.  I showered and packed up and loaded Yurtle and by 0900, I was on the road with the pups.

We stopped halfway at the dog park (no but really, best idea/exit ever) and I picked up lunch and got some juice for Yurtle and also picked up a snack at Starbuckos for the pups and I.  I had a peppermint mocha frappichino while they enjoyed puppycinos.

We made it home by 5:15, which isn't so bad considering I stopped at Wendy's for lunch, then to the dog park for the dogs, then stopped for gas, and stopped at Starbucks before getting back on the interstate.  Despite his intentions, Teh German wasn't there when we got home, but I did come home to this:

No one has ever left flowers for me to find or rose pedal hearts ever.
#keeper

When he finally got home from work, we hung out and I got all the snuggles.  We ended up going to Early Bird Diner for dinner since they were open later than the sushi place and it was 9pm before we left for dinner.  Side note: my eating schedule has been shot to hell and it's difficult for me to know who I am right now without my eating schedule.

Overall, it was an excellent trip to MD.  Getting to see everyone was fantastic and I wished I could have had longer to hang out and relax some.  It felt like I breezed in and breezed out.  But, I accomplished another 1/2 Marathon and I've only got 4 pegs left on my medal rack!

*Hopefully being home again means that my blogging schedule will resume to normal standards, but I kinda doubt it for the following reasons:
  • My/our weekends are activity packed for the foreseeable future
  • I'll be continuing my running schedule to stay ready for my 1/2 in November.
  • Trying out Crossfit, which means even less evening free time
  • My activity preference is hanging out/doing things/snuggling with Teh German over being on my computer in my free time.
  • I finally hooked up Teh Sister's Netflix on my Roku and we started House of Cards and I suck at multitasking when the TV is on (and I'd rather snuggle).
  • Work is picking up for me which means less blogging time.  In fact, I'm putting off work right now to finally get this post up!  I even missed out on Confessions for the 2nd time in a month.  WHO AM I!?!?
If you made it through all of this, you deserve a cookie.  I'd suggest halloween oreos personally, but I'm completely biased.

Weekend Review {6/22}

Why can't blogs just write themselves?  I need a transponder in my head that automatically just generates my thoughts into blog posts.  That would save me SO MUCH TIME!!!

FRIDAY

After a short day on Friday, I headed to the gym.  The repair place had called to tell me Mike was ready for pickup, so Mr. Scrooge and I headed over around 3:30 to pick him up.  Much joy was had from Mike the full-blood Prince (if you're not getting my half-blood references, I'm sorry for you).  Mr. Scrooge doubted my time estimation (an hour +/- 15ish minutes) and I was spot.freakin.on.  Be jealous of these mad time estimatin' skillz, ya'll.

There was kind of a rush because 1- it was going to rain/raining and 2- Mr. Scrooge was supposed to have a makeup softball game at 6.  We made it back home by 4:45 and I was all, "BOOM BITCHES!  IN YO FACE!"  (Ok, so I maybe didn't say these exact words, but Mr. Scrooge can validate that I might have said, "told you so," when he tried to point out how long it had taken.  Beech please.)  On our way back home, we did get caught in the rain, which was a good time for this girl, who has never had to drive a motorcycle ever in the rain.  It wasn't so bad, I was extra cautious and fortunately, it was never more than a heavy drizzle.  It was so hot that I was dry by the time we got home.

Due to seeing the lightning (which definitely lit the fire under my ass to get home as quickly (abet safely) as possible), Mr. Scrooge and I both assumed his game was cancelled.  There's this nazi lady who is in charge of the fields/something and she is the enforcer of all the rules, to include no pets in the ball area and all members of the team definitely having the proper ID to be able to play.  Really lady?  It's intramural dudes softball, relax.  If Phil and Meri had been being obnoxious, I would have seen kicking them out, but they weren't, so I didn't really understand that other than the fact that I had blatantly ignored the signs that said no pets when we walked through the gates.  I should have just lied and said they were service animals.

Moving on, obviously not bitter at all about that mess, we hung out at home for the evening.  Mr. Scrooge stayed up doing whatever he does on Friday nights and I went to bed at normal time after soe reading because I was exhausted.

PS.  I really missed Mike Wazowski.  More than I anticipated.

SATURDAY

When the dogs roused at whatever time it was, I wasn't interested in moving.  Earplugs + flexeril really make for a Megan that doesn't really get bothered, so I rolled right back over and went back to sleep.  I woke up when I heard Mr. Scrooge get up to feed the beasts and I had all the sleeps to get back to so I was unconcerned.  I woke up at 0715 and Mr. Scrooge was still gone and I considered getting up and going on a run then I was like, "hahah funny Megan, just be a lazy ass and enjoy having the whole bed to yourself," then I went back to sleep.  I repeated this process on and off for the next 1.5 hours until finally I guilted myself into getting up just so I could beat the Saturday shopping crowds since I had to go by Target and possibly the grocery store and Victoria's Secret.

I got ready and finally emerged from the bedroom to find Mr. Scrooge asleep on the couch and the dogs were no where to be found.  He hadn't let them back inside after they ate, oops.  They were obviously fine other than the lack of human contact they'd had for what must have seemed like a life-time based on their reaction to being let back inside.  I tried to print out coupons, but my printer hates me and I used up my 3 tries so I had "reached my limit" on the coupons I was trying to print, which really pissed me off because I would have been saving about $10, which is a lot when you're only spending $50ish.  This wouldn't have really been an issue if there was more than one laptop in this house, which is totally a first world problem, but dammit seriously.  I'm not used to only having 1 computer in the house after living with Teh Bear and Teh MD Roomies.  I mean, technically my broke laptop is somewhere in the house, but I was too frustrated at that moment to consider that option.  Next time...

I headed to Target, list in hand.  On the way there, I was being a moron and rear-ended someone.  I saw the light turn green and there weren't brake lights, so I left off my brake and then that overly-loud sound of plastic bumping into each other occurred and I almost had a fucking heart attack in Yurtle because this is the first time I've hurt her like this.. and because I rear-ended someone and I really don't want to have to pay for another bumper for someone (I paid for a bumper when I was 17 because some assholes insisted I had messed up this girls bumper when I backed into her (I didn't) but it was still a $750 lesson since she had a souped-up (do the kids still call it that these days?) super awesome Dodge Neon. /rolleyes #yepstillbitter).

The dude ended up being pretty cool about it, thank Allah.  As soon as I came to from the spike in my heart rate, I pointed to the right so he would pull off the road into the mall parking lot since we had been in the middle lane of traffic.  Despite only wanting to check on Yurtle, I immediately got out of my car and checked on his car and waited on him to get out of the car so I could ask if he was ok, that's what adults do, right?  I think I got it right, because he nodded.  He was on the phone (and I'm thinking, "How rude!") so he was doing the 2 conversations at once thing, but he had to keep repeating everything he was saying to the person on the phone, at which point I realized it was the 911 operator, he had called the police and I'm like, well fuck, might as well stop acting overly concerned now.  I went and checked Yurtle, who was fine.

He was more concerned about getting to work on time, he explained as I walked back to his car.  There was a slight scuff mark where I'd tapped him, but nothing obvious.  The officer showed up and checked both cars and told us that we could handle it between ourselves and I was so relieved.  I offered to exchange info with the dude and what that went down the office explained that she had rear-ended someone twice in the last few months, once in her personal vehicle and once in her police vehicle.  I understood that she was sympathizing, but the dude had actually said, "I honestly won't worry about it if I can get to work on time."  I let him send a text to his phone from mine so he had my number if his bumper ended up falling off or something, but I'm praying still that he'll wash his car and the scuffs will come off.  We both admitted that we definitely needed to wash our cars.  We got back on the road within 10 minutes of the accident occurring and he was able to pull into AT&T right at 10, so I'm hoping that means his phone auto deletes messages older than 30 days or something so my phone number is lost.  Also, his name was Chris and he worked at AT&T and if you know anything about the Ex-Fiance you will find great amusement in this coincidence.

I enjoyed a satisfactory smores frappuccino for breakfast, something I'd been holding out for all week, since I knew I was going to Target this weekend.  I was able to pick up everything on my list at Target, which meant no grocery store run, woot!  I stopped by VS on my way back home to do a cluster fuck of returns.  I had ordered 3 sports bras in bright pink, which I already have since that seems to be the only color VS wants to make in my size in that style, so I could lock in the cheap price.  $29.50 and $33 instead of $55?  Yes please.  I was able to do an even exchange for different colors and return some of the bras that were nos.

In creepy Megan status, I asked the VS cashier where she got her hair cut since it was similar to mine and apparently no one gets their hair cut in Charleston.  She was apparently a student at USC in Columbia, so she got it done there.  FML.  Also, I leered in the Planet Fitness windows so hard I'm sure people were thinking, "Take a picture, it lasts longer!"  Really, I just wanted to check out the equipment and size of the gym.  The base gym is really, REALLY pushing my limits.  Knee sweat, Gentle Readers, is NEVER ok inside (especially if all you're doing is the elliptical, I mean lets get real here).

As I headed back home, I made a quick stop at the butcher for steaks and then went home.  Mr. Scrooge agreed to go out for lunch at a place called The Junction Kitchen and Provisions.  Teh Teacher Assistant had posted photos of her lunch there a few weeks ago and I've been wanting to try it since.  After lunch, we rode out to BFE and then came back home.  Honestly, I have no idea where Mr. Scrooge took us.  I do know that we went through Summerville because Mr. Scrooge stopped at Walmart and I was so freakin' hot that I wanted to slay him for not just going to straight home but he was going to stop at Starbucks and something about the wrong side of the road.  I was so hot and sweaty I had zero fucks to give about where he wanted to go.  THEN he insisted on getting a drink... and not like a 20oz from the front of the store, no no no.. a freakin' BOTTLE of juice from the furthest end of the store from where we'd parked.

I became nicer as I cooled off, but seriously, Charleston "spring" is teaching me that hotgry is a thing, a very, very serious thing.  Also, it makes me glad I'm not currently in Bahrain because it's Ramadan right now ad the hotgry is real over there too.  It was also real in GTMO, the detainees would get more aggressive because they would fast and it was hot and miserable.  Hotgry is as much of a thing as hanger is.  #truth

The only place we could find to sit was the bench where people come in/out, and I didn't even care I was so tired and annoyed.  I quickly realized the people watching was on point.  After Mr. Scrooge finished most of his BOTTLE of green tea, we finally went back to the bikes and headed home.  I immediately came home and took a shower.  Hot, sweaty Megan is just smelly and rude and ragey at the world.

After a delightful nap, I roasted a butternut squash while Mr. Scrooge grilled chicken for dinner.  We topped the squash with black beans and creamed corn (only because Mr. Scrooge opened the wrong can) and I also added cheese and cilantro to mine.  I'm on this huge cilantro kick lately.  Not sure why, but it's delicious and I can't help myself from eating all of it.  #Iacceptmyweirdness

I finally admitted to Mr. Scrooge that I'd rather watch X-Files over watching him try to pick out a movie for an hour and that it made me pretty ragey when he did it because it reminded me of Teh Bear who used to do exactly the same thing.  Granted, I've done it before too, but I was home alone and no one else had to deal with my insanity.  The audience makes all the difference.

So X-Files it was while we ate dinner.  I ended up staying up pretty late writing blog posts (yay for things planned) because of my evening nap, but when it was time for bed, I was out, out, out.

SUNDAY

Again, I had no concerns in the world about the dogs when they woke up at stupid early o'clock.  Mr. Scrooge actually got up and fed them and let them out AND back in then came back to bed.  I woke up later and checked all my phone things (instagram, timehop, FB, email/messages) and then decided to be motivated and take the dogs out before it got too hot.

I walked the dogs 2 miles while talking to Teh Dad and then came back and hosed them down to help them cool down faster.  Based on Meri's reaction, you'd think that she was going to melt from getting wet.  I didn't have anything to dry them off with, and despite several shakes, she still had to come in and fervently rub herself all over all of the living room furniture because water is of the devil.  Phil is used to being hosed down after his races, so he doesn't fight me like she does.  He just tolerates it in the same way he tolerates everything else, "Just finish this horrible thing already, ok?"

I was going to make breakfast, but Mr. Scrooge suggested going out to get breakfast (which meant going on a ride), so I told him that was fine but he had to pick a place.  This is a big deal because Mr. Scrooge almost never picks the place.  He started to be whiny about it and I finally said that I had picked the place Saturday morning so he was picking today.  He did good.  He picked a place called Red Drum in Mount Pleasant.  He knew that it had Mexican-y things on the brunch menu, which was the ticket for me.  Otherwise, he had no idea about the place and we judged from the cars in the parking lot, we could be paying a lot to eat here.  It really wouldn't have been so bad if I hadn't ordered 2 biscuits which cost $4.50 (BUT WERE TOTALLY WORTH EVERY PENNY) and Mr. Scrooge's coffee hadn't been $3 (wtf? since my sweet tea was only $1.50).  The food was good and the biscuits were the best I've had that weren't actually homemade but tasted exactly like it, but I still hold that the best huevos rancheros is from Another Broken Egg Cafe.

Top: Quail and sausage and cheesy grits
Bottom: Huevos rancheros

This is my OMG THIS BISCUIT IS SO FUCKING DELICIOUS face.
Adding butter and strawberry jam?  There was no time for picture before I inhaled that bitch.

After we left Red Drum, we headed to Palmetto Armory because I'm still interested in buying the CORRECT gun.  We had the debate if they were open or not, and it turned out they were despite looking like they weren't.  When we went in, I immediately asked for the Ruger Mark III Target and was informed that they didn't have any and couldn't order them.  I was disappointed, but whatever.  I was willing to look around, but I really wanted to look at the Ruger case and some family was standing in front of it being shown some stupid rifle thing that only someone in SC could buy because you can buy any type of firearm in this state.  Seriously though, I have no idea what kind of gun it was.  I was obviously trying to look in that case and they refused to move.  The sales dude didn't even bother to move either.  I wanted to smack him in the face with the butt of the gun.  After stepping away, my rage wasn't abating in anyway so we finally left.

I know that the gun I buy will be the Ruger Mark III Target.  It's what I've wanted for the last year and some stupid bitch fucked it up once already and I'm still bitter.  I know that if I don't get the Mark III Target, whatever I get will NOT be the same and I'll still want the Target.  So why bother getting a different gun when I know exactly what I want?

We left the gun place and Mr. Scrooge took me to his favorite bendy/challenge road "that someone always crashes on."  Yep, whatever you're thinking is probably what I was thinking too, but then I'm like, "Ok, lets go."  When we got back on the road, my rage mostly dissipated.  Mr. Scrooge was very safe despite the scary road.  He signaled to me when to slow down for the 15mph turns and when to avoid the potholes/rough road sections.  It wasn't an overly fun ride, I just enjoy being out and moving, where he likes to go around the sharp bends and go fast, but I did enjoy being somewhere new.  I was super sore when we got home because holding the throttle is seriously hard work when your arms are this short.

When we got home, I showered and started the laundry while Mr. Scrooge mowed the yard and planted more grass seed.  I also finally sorted through over 2000 photos and put them into their proper folders on my computer instead of just letting them build up over and over and over.  They still need some more filtering (and going through to delete the crap photos), but it's better than it was AND my dropbox is cleared out again.

We had the steaks for dinner and watched X-Files.  I joined the hangout for the Cyber Book Club and waited about 10 minutes before finally giving up because no one else showed up.  Faillllllll.  I really had a lot to rage about Spinster because I felt like it was the ultimate let down.  I had such high hopes and I was crushed.

Overall, an excellent weekend.  Saturday kinda felt like Sunday so when Sunday came it was like a bonus free day.  It was awesome to feel so rested and like I had all this extra time for things and activities!  lol
