Weekend Review {3/9}

FRIDAY

No post Friday, oops, but life took over and it just didn't happen.  Don't worry, I'll make up for it this week.  Work, then school, then home for some teleworking until it was time for Teh PT Wife and I to head to Myrtle Beach (MB).

When we got to MB, we hung out with our hostess at the bar where she is a bartender for some free beverages.  We headed to the expo before dinner.  Again, we were disappointed.  1- It was held at Dave and Busters and it was a clusterfuck.  There weren't a lot of actual tables either.  Oh well.

We had dinner at Bimini's again, as tradition dictates.  This year, I made the wise life choice to NOT remove my card from my wallet or even remove my wallet from my purse.  We ended up just splitting everything anyways, so I PayPal-ed Teh PT Wife and we all laughed and appreciated my credit card strife from last year (when I left my card at the restaurant and it never made it's way back to me).

After dinner, we headed home and hung out for a little while and then it was bedtime.

SATURDAY

We were up at 0615 on Saturday morning to get ready for the race and head out.  Since we ran the 5k this year, we had to take a shuttle to the start, so we had to allow time for that situation.  Additionally, it wasn't warm outside (a breezy 40°F and falling), so it was not a pleasant wait for the shuttle to arrive once we finally got out of the car.

Pre-race selfie

We only ran the 5k for the Bless Your Heart (BYH) medal you get for running a Charleston Marathon race + a Myrtle Beach Marathon race.  We debated doing the half, but since it was only for the medal and we ran the half last year, opted for the shorter distance.  THERE WERE REGRETS.

1- You run on the boardwalk, which is theoretically very cool, except that it winds down the beach and there are benches on the path and there were half a million people crammed into an area that is maybe 5 persons wide... and no thanks.

2- Shuttle to start.  Ugh.  You can park and walk to the half start, which means I can sit in the car (and nap) if it's cold until I feel like it.

So tired... hahah, like it wasn't just a 5k.

Blllaannnngggggg

The biggest perk of doing the 5k is that it only took us ~30 minutes to run it and then after getting our BYH medal, we checked out the post-race tents (minimal options going on there) and then we didn't even have to wait to get a table at Johnny D's for brunch.  Last year, we had a wait.  Our hostess met us, eventually, for breakfast.  Eventually because she was blocked by so many closed roads for the race that she almost just said fuck it and turned around and went home, and no one would have blamed her.

After brunch, Teh PT Wife and I headed back to Charleston.  Teh German was out on a ride so when I got home, the beasts were dying for attention.

This shadow wouldn't let me out of his sight from the moment I got home.
Like I was gone for half his life instead of for less than 24 hours.

I unpacked my shit, started the laundry, puttered around the house, finally showered, and then plopped on the couch for resting.

2019 BYH (top) vs 2020 BYH.
This year's medal seemed so much bigger than last year's.
And this year's was better because beach umbrellas on the MB side and pineapples on the Charleston side!

Meri and I celebrated our 6 year anniversary on Saturday.  I wasn't sure what kind of treats I was going to give her/them, but then I kept it simple.  We had a sample bag of food from the dog event I attended with Teh PT Husband/Wife in Feb and this PB needs to be used, soooo frozen PB kongs with surprise treats inside were made up.  I put them in the freezer and they each got a kong for dessert.

Teh German and I went to Walmart to order my new glasses, which was almost a debacle when the guy didn't want to help me since it was after 5:30 and he closed at 6 (uhh, rude), but he did and I bought 2 pairs of glasses and should have just bought one, but whatever.. Then we hit up The Codfather for dinner.  We sat at the bar and this old asshole beside us kept talking to us, which was fine until I realized he was a drunk asshole.  He kept trying to make me feel bad for being on my phone.  He also told us about how important he was and how only less than 10 people in the US can do his job because of all his experience, blah blah blah.  At one point during his self-boasting I straight up said, "Do you want a cookie for all of that?"  He didn't get it, but the bartender heard it and gave a chuckle.  He also tried to give us shit for ordering on a half order of the fish and chips.  Bro, you don't fucking know me.  Mind your own damn business.  Yes, it's good, but I don't want to make myself sick.  /rolleyes

When we got home, it was stretchy pants time.  I handed out Kongs to the beasts and Teh German and I watched Dark until definitely after my bedtime.

SUNDAY

Sunday we woke up at whatever time it was.  0930?  IDK.  Time change makes life hard.  I managed to get my ass in gear and get to the Burpees and Brews workout at Ghost Monkey.  I only went because on a Sunday morning, Ghost Monkey is only 30 mins from house.  I hung out after and drank my coffee while the others had beer.  I finally left around 1 to get home and do productive things.

I was surprised to find Teh German still at home when I arrived.  I figured, for sure, he'd be out riding Lars-/Ludwig (his not-yet named bike, I truthfully think he just wants to call it "The BMW" on principle, but I refuse... also on principle).  Ultimately, that is what he ended up doing, but after we walked the beasts and ate lunch.  This worked out ideally since I had homework to attend to.

I can also now say that I've called the cops on a neighbor.  Technically, they don't live in our neighborhood, but on the other side of the wooded area behind our house.  I'm not sure who thought it would be a good idea to have a fucking fiesta all day, but I could hear their music IN MY HOUSE and that was unacceptable.  When I called the county non-emergency number, they insisted that it was from the city limits housing and transferred me to my city's non-emergency line.  I was annoyed because I KNOW the house is NOT located within the city limits, but, of course, I know nothing.  Thankfully, the lady who answered the city's non-emergency line took down my complaint and said she'd call the county for me.  Thank you, Lady, so much.

Within an hour, the music turned down or off.  Either way, I couldn't hear it, which was all I cared about.  I'm not a "call the cops" person... but disturb my peace inside my house.. and all bets are off.  I should not have to use my noise cancelling headphones in my house for a noise that isn't coming from within my house.  Period.

I managed to power through almost all of my homework before Teh German came home.  We had tacos for dinner and I headed back to the office to do the last bit of my German homework and finish a Cricut project for Teh PT Husband.  Then I headed to the couch for an episode of Dark.

After screen time, we headed to bed.

______________________________________________

I was awake at 03/04 this morning.  I'm not actually sure what time it was.  I looked at my watch and it blinded me and I tried to do math and with the time change everything was fucked up and I know that I've been awake since well before the alarm went off and that makes me disgruntled on a Monday after losing an hour.  I mean, technically, I didn't loose an hour of sleep because I slept until I woke up on Sunday, but principle since it was dark outside for like.. ever.

The downside to no Friday post is that I didn't get to share that my Women in Cybersecurity conference got cancelled.  No worries though, we are still headed to Denver this week because I'm not losing $800 for our already paid for plane tickets.

This week is kinda busy.
-Tues evening: We're getting an estimate for painting the hizzhous.
-Weds evening: Gettin' the taxes done did (finally).
-Thurs morning: I fly to Denver and telework for 2 days instead of going to the WiCyS conference, Teh German will be meeting me on Saturday for our Spring Break mini-vacation.

I am not sorry to see March blasting past.
60 days until graduation.  Teh Bestie sent me her flight itinerary this morning!
Days until next race: 6.
Days until I am with Teh Bestie and Matilda for another runcation: 18.
Medals received in 2020: 5

Weekend Review {04/08}

THURSDAY

Thursday was like a marathon.  Anxiety had me up at 0430 and I wasn't going back to sleep, despite my best efforts, so I got up, did the laundry, took my shower, and headed to school early to accomplish school and work things.  I had class, then class again, then I sat down to do "one quick thing" to my code which ended up being more like an infinite amount of quick things, so I stopped to go down and grab my lunch from the car, which I ate, while coding because when the coding bug bites, you accept it and you code.

I had actually planned to take a nap because I knew it was going to be a long day, but it didn't happen.  I worked on stuff through lunch and then it was afternoon class, then I headed to work to change into running clothes and wait for Teh Running Bestie to meet me (yay!) so we could run the i5k.

I thought the race started at 6, but it actually started at 6:30, so we had to stand around for a bit.  BUT there was a greyhound there, so we were pacified.  The race went fine.  We did a walk/jog, nothing overly strenuous.  I was surprised at how little I coughed, and glad.  Coast was giving out free beer, so that was cool if that's your thing.  After the race, I grabbed a free beer for Teh German, since there were canned beers there and technically, I had paid for it, even if I don't drink it, and then we left.

I dropped Teh Running Bestie off at her car, called an order in at Willie Jewells, picked up the order, and went straight home.  Since it was a little after 8pm when I got home, I didn't even bother bringing in all my shit, just the food.  We immediately ate dinner, then I took care of my shit.  Laundry, taking off my bra, putting shit away, gathering shit for the next day, and finally sitting down to finish my code stuff and letting it run overnight, and finally going to bed.

For real, when I rolled over in the bed, I don't remember closing my eyes.. that's how quickly I fell asleep.. and that's never how it works for me.  I didn't wake up once all night and it was a fucking delight.  I'm not sure the last time that's happened.

FRIDAY

Because there was no class on Friday, it was a work only day.  I went into the office kinda early since I had a laser appointment at 0900.  After my laser appointment, I went to the Chiro.  Since it was pouring buckets outside when I was trying to leave the Chiro's office, I talked him into escorting me to my car with an umbrella since "we're in an unsafe neighborhood" (which isn't actually untrue, lol).  He was a good sport and made sure I was mostly dry all the way to the car.  Then I went back to work for several hours until it was finally time to go home.

Olive-Walive is a boss at using a pillow.

Teh Running Bestie, Teh PT Wife, and I headed to the Bridge Run Expo around 4:30ish.  We picked up our race packets, perused the tables, then it was dinner time.  We decided on Page's Okra Grill, which was a risk since there is always a wait.  Fortunately, for a party of 3, it was only a 15 minute wait, and Teh PT Wife was able to handle that.

Chicken livers, cornbread, sweet potatoes, hushpuppies, and some pinto bean corn "salsa".

I know our server was slammed with tables, but we didn't have silverware when our food was delivered and I had asked for a water and didn't receive it until I was halfway done with my meal... after I'd had to go up to the server station to ask for silverware.  Yeah, that wasn't my favorite thing.  We did see the dude after the race on Saturday, but didn't say anything to him.  I think Teh PT Wife and I were both surprised to see him out of the 30,000 people there.. and we lost Teh Running Bestie.. we happen upon our server from dinner the night before.  The world works in mysterious ways.

After dinner, we headed back home.  Teh PT Wife loves me and sent Teh German and Teh Chief Smartass home.  I was exhausted and wanted to go to bed and I knew if they came home after I was already in the bed, that would wake me up and I wouldn't have been able to go back to sleep and then I would be EXTRA stabby.

It didn't take long for it to be bedtime since we had an early start the next day.

SATURDAY

When the alarm went off at 0530, I was legitimately confused.  I quickly determined it wasn't a school day, but could NOT remember why the alarm was going off.  It took a solid 20 seconds to remember it was Bridge Run day.

We were on the road by 0615, headed to the Coliseum to catch a bus to the start line.  We did a car go the opposite way of bus traffic and I was in such a bitchy mood, I really wanted that person to get hit by a bus.  Based on our general disgruntlement throughout the weekend, I'd say that all 3 of us, myself, Teh PT Wife, and Teh Running Bestie were PMSing.  It was rough.

I tried to take a nap on the bus ride, but the radio was BLARING and then it was static once we got into Mount Pleasant, which was better to me than my ear drums busting since it kinda sounded like the brown noise I listen to while I sleep.  We got to the start area and then decided to jump into the furthest forward corral we could sneak into.  I was in D corral, but Teh Running Bestie and Teh PT Wife were further back and I didn't want to be waiting over an hour to start the race.  A nazi was bib checking every.single.person (as she should) that went into D and E corrals, but the oblivious dude at F corral wasn't really paying attention so we snuck in.  Then some twatty bitch made some comments when I decided to stop moving and stand in the space that was in front of them.  Yes, it was tight, but there's 30,000 people here bitch, STFU.  I'm not touching you, breathing on you, or otherwise harming you.  Get over it (which is ironically, also the motto for the Bridge Run, so HA!).

Teh PT Wife and I ended up going on ahead of Teh Running Bestie.  This wasn't ideal since we ended up almost not being able to find her at the finish line because fucking chaos.  When we went into Marion Square, where the post-race stuff was happening, there was ZERO cell phone coverage, so we had to move out into the streets to be able to text her and her location wasn't updating.  UGH.

Wut bridge?

We finally managed to get text messages through and met at the Krispy Kreme bus.  We had grabbed water and a banana for Teh Running Bestie, but she hadn't gotten our texts in time and already had to fight the masses to get water, which always makes us stabby.  Throughout the race, I had been telling Teh PT Wife that I was annoyed with the weaving between people we were having to do.  Then we got to the finish line and there was no water and we had to discover a new area of the map to find the water (you're welcome for that gamer reference).  Here's the thing.. when participants have to ask each other where to find food/water after a race, YOUR RACE IS BAD.

And so.. I have come to a conclusion.
2020 will be my final year running the bridge run.  I'm over the crowds, I'm over the hassle it is with Teh German to get my car downtown the night before the race, I'm over the fact that the day before it usually rains, making getting downtown even more tedious, I'm over shuttling to the start, I'm over the extra 2 miles added on to the length of the race to get to the start line and to get to the car.

Why 2020?  Because I can't do 4 years of a run.  I need an "even" number to finish on.  And because Teh PT Kid told his mom that he would like to run the Bridge.

So after finally getting to the car in the parking garage, we headed to Early Bird Diner for post-race brunch with Teh German and Teh Chief Smartass.  I had called them when we got to the downtown portion of the race so they could head there and kickstart the wait time for us.  #SorryNotSorry.

I was super pumped to see the Oatmeal Cream Pie ice cream on the dessert menu and super disappointed when it didn't live up to my remembered expectations.  There was no talking during eating time, so that meant we were all huuuungry.  After brunch, we picked up Willow from the Coliseum, then we headed home.

I set up taco soup in the crockpot for dinner then piddled around the house doing random shit and finally showering.  I had debated taking a nap, I felt good, so I wasn't sure if I needed one, but ultimately ended up napping.  It didn't hurt my feelings.  When I got up, I shredded the chicken for the soup, then it was dinner time.

After dinner, I worked on a Cricut projects and Teh PT Fam came over to visit.  Eventually, it was late so Teh PT Fam left and soon after, it was bedtime.

SUNDAY

I wanted a late start on Sunday morning, but couldn't manage to sleep in once the beasts had been released, so I just got up and started working on homework.  It rained in the AM, but we still actually went through with our plans to take the beasts on a walk at Riverfront Park (where the i5k was).

I had managed to clip Pax's nails before we left, without help, which was nice.. and I got a few of Meri's before I quicked her and she started bleeding like a stuck pig all over the couch, which set off Teh German, which set off Meri.. and I'm trying to hold her bloody foot.  It was as lovely as you can imagine.  Even with her anxiety meds and being exhausted from the park walk, she was NOT having more of my shit.  Teh Running Bestie tried to dremel her remaining paw and neither of us had ever been so scared that Meri was going to bite one of us, so we gave up.

Also, I do not have Mom Guilt because all of Meri's nails are black, which makes it extra difficult NOT to quick the dogs.  "Quick"ing is when you cut too short and the nail bleeds.  It doesn't last long, and it's equivalent to ripping off a hangnail for humans, but Meri does NOT like her feet to be messed with, thus why it is such a momentous event when nails get cut.

Back to the park though, we sent the beasts with Teh Running Bestie, who was going back home, so Teh German and I could accomplish the week's grocery store run.  We stopped at Sam's, Lidl, and then Walmart, unfortunately.  I had been hoping it was only a 2 store week, but I was not so lucky.  But it's fine because we were able to get all the stuff on the list instead of pushing it off... again.

When we got home, I put away groceries and then Teh German and I started working on German dinner: Hähnchenschnitzel (chicken schnitzel), käsespatzle (like mac and cheese), und Rotkuhl (red cabbage).  We started on dinner no later than 6 and we didn't eat until almost 8:30.  UGH.  But it was sooooo worth it.  This was the best time that we've done German dinner, Teh German and I agreed.

Front to back:
Rotkuhl, jaeger/mushroom gravy, Käsespatzle, Schnitzel

There was also "jaeger" gravy, but it didn't really come out right..
but the flavor was fine.. so I used it as a dipping sauce, lol.

After cleaning up dinner, it was bedtime.

______________________________________________

Sadly, Teh Running Bestie left on Monday morning.  That's always the worst, when she leaves me.  Even though we know we'll see each other again in June, I'm unbearably jealous that Teh German will get to see her in May when he goes to MD for the GEGR picnic, so before me.  I know, I know, I'll be in Germany doing awesome things.. but principle people!

Overall, a very good weekend.  I didn't get much done in the way of homework, which makes for a stressful week... Which can be determined from this post going live on a Wednesday afternoon...

Monday, I had a filling put on my broken tooth.  I have irrational dentist anxiety, but I managed.  The dentist said if the filling doesn't do the trick (eliminating the pain) or doesn't stay attached (since the break was at such a severe angle), a root canal is next.

This is literally what my brain did when the dentist said that:

So this fucking filling better stay on.  That said, the lack of pain has been startling.  I didn't realize just how much it hurt.  Also, I no longer have to clean the tooth out with my finger when I'm done eating since it would trap food.  I'm sure that is Teh German's favorite thing about my filling, no more watching me pick food out of my teeth after we eat.  That said, it is very much a habit now, after several years of doing it...

Monday night, I thought it was Tuesday night and I was extremely disappointed that the week was already dragging and it was only Monday.

Finally, Teh Running Bestie and the Disney Hercules Facebook account peer pressured me into starting to play Disney Emoji Blitz.  I haven't decided if I will continue to play it long term because I have a very hard time not playing it at the wrong times and being grouchy while I am playing it if someone messes with me and causes me to score low.  Yes, I know, #MeganProblems.

2 MORE WEEKS OF CLASS.
I can literally drag myself through this.
I run half marathons.
I can survive 2 weeks of end-of-semester-itis.
For real though, wish me luck.  The struggle is real.

Weekend Review {12/17}

FRIDAY

Just work on Friday.  I was the first one into the office, which meant I didn't feel guilty when I left before everyone.  My #BarometerHead started sending out alarm after lunch and I ended up skipping the gym and going home and taking a nap.

Teh German came home and we got ready for his work holiday party.  There were no photos because I was busy socializing since I wasn't sick this year.  After the party we headed home rather than going out with his coworkers.  After the week, we were both done with everything.  We did go to Teh PT House for a little while, but eventually it was bedtime and we headed home.

SATURDAY

Saturday morning, I woke up and wanted to get some shit accomplished, so I got out of bed by 0830 (that no dog life).  First up was laundry, ugh.

Next thing on the agenda was straightening up the desk.  I am not ready to part with Fall 2018 semester's stuff yet, so I stored it away in case I need to reference it next semester (high possibility with some part 2 classes scheduled for Spring 19).

Fall 2018.

This is what immigration interview prep looks like.
This was Teh German's area, so I didn't touch anything except the photo album/pictures.

Final results!

After everything was cleaned up, I plopped down at my desk to do some Cricut things.  I've had several projects on hold, waiting for me to not have school things to do.  Personalized tumblers have been created.

Teh German and I set out to do errands around 1.  Our first stop was dropping off his snowboard to get waxed.  Then we stopped at Sesame since Mr. Hungover was hungry.  We made a stop at Dick's to look for snow goggles that weren't $140 (which is the price of goggles at the sports shop where Teh German's board is getting waxed) and because I live in SC, there are no snow goggles to be found.  So much for being prepared when we get to CO.

Next, we stopped at Sam's and Walmart for some stuffs, then Cookout for milkshakes on the way home.  When we got home, I set about the task of cleaning off the island where things had been landing when we arrived home.  I also packaged/wrapped several items that will be shipped off this week.

We spent the remainder of the evening watching The Ranch.  During this, Teh German was voluntold to sort half of the photos I'd gotten printed so they could be in order in the immigration interview photo album.  After we got the photos sorted, I worked on putting the photos into the album and labeling the photos.  Eventually, it was bed time.

SUNDAY

Sunday morning, I had originally wanted to go on a run, but my hamstrings were on the brink of being better, so I opted out.  My Sunday plans included: picking up the missing photos from the interview album, finishing a book, and doing whatever the fuck I wanted.

So when Teh German suggested that we ride the bikes to brunch, I agreed.  I explained that we had to pick up the photos then we could go wherever.  We agreed to go to the Jewish Deli for brunch.  Since we'd been to the Deli recently, we both ventured out of our comfort zones and ordered items we hadn't tried before.

When we got home, Teh German took the other motorcycle out for a spin and I talked to Teh Dad while finishing up the photo album with the missing 45 photos from 2015.  After finishing the album, I moved on to finishing up the laundry, got off the phone with Teh Dad, and decided it was time to get warm in the bath.

I had a book and a milkshake to finish, so I did just that..  I also had a bath bomb to use.  #WIN
The not win part was that bath bombs and shaving = needing to clean the tub/jets.  After rinsing the tub, I filled it past the jets and poured in some clorox and let it run for 10 minutes.  After this, I drained the tub, filled the tub over the jets again, but with cold water this time and let it run for 15 minutes.

Shortly after 5, our across the street neighbors came over to discuss a Disney strategy since they knew that I/we've gone to Disney World several times.  I gave them all my helpful hints, and then still had to text them after they'd gone as I'd think of things I should have told them.

I threw together something for dinner so we wouldn't starve and didn't have to go out (again).  After dinner, I moved to the couch to finish my book.  Shortly after 9, I finished it.  Then it was time to go to bed, since the weekend was over.  Despite going to bed on time, we didn't get to sleep until late because we were both not sleeping since the interview was the following day.  Teh German and I quizzed each other on life details an agent may ask us and eventually we fell asleep.

______________________________________________

This morning was our interview, but due to a series of unfortunate events, it was not the joyous occasion I wanted it to be.  We are still on hold due to a missing form, but as soon as the agent receives that form, Husband's application will be approved.  If none of that means anything (which I get), it means that Teh German's green card will be approved after we send in a form.

Unfortunately, there was a rough start this morning due to Teh German's Company's CEO who I'd like to fly to Germany and viciously throttle.  The particulars involve this individual trying to schedule a mandatory meeting on Wednesday morning including Teh German, which happens to also be the first day of our vacation, when I was looking forward to not having to worry about either of our works.  This individual doesn't realize just how miserable he's making MYYYY life by making my husband miserable, but I'm ready to let him know about it, even if it won't help the situation.

The weekend was busy.  I don't know how to not do things anymore.  I'm so trained to always be doing something productive that when I sit down to relax, I can't because my brain is going a millionty mph thinking of things that I should/could be doing.  It's difficult to adjust, but I'm sure that not being at home will help.  Fingers crossed.

I imagine that my posts will become sporadic throughout the rest of the month due to Snowcation, so ya know, be prepared for that.

I have no great parting wisdom today.  So, instead, just don't kill people in a holiday rage.  Especially those fuckers who don't use signal lights when they are going to spend hundreds of dollars on gifts for people they care about, which obviously isn't you since they didn't bother to use turn indicators for you.

Weekend Review {8/20}

FRIDAY

Friday was actually a Friyay, because NO WORRRRKKKK!!  I was a slacker and didn't go to the gym, but I did go with Teh Dad and Teh Stepmom to Sullivans Island to hit up the beach for my annual beach visit.  We arrived at the beach around 1030 (before the weekend crowd arrived) and we finally lugged all our shit back to Willow around 1245.

I was hungry, so we stopped at Home Team for lunch.  I mixed it up and ordered the chopped brisket sandwich instead of pulled pork and HT at Sullivans has fries, which were a win.  After lunch, we headed home.

I had arranged a cookout with the Neighbor Besties and around 6:30 everyone started to arrive.  Teh German was the grill master and I cooked up at least 5 pounds of tater tots (#SamsClubProblems), which did not go unhomed.  I got rip-roarin' runkity-runk.  I remember all of what happened, and my teeth chattering from laughing sooooo much.  I pretty sure by midnight everyone had headed home and we were in bed soon after.

SATURDAY

The world's most effective alarm clock (dog puking) quickly roused me around 0630.  I was able to pull Pax into the bathroom so he didn't vomit on my carpet (#WIN) and then we headed outside where he finished his... business.  I fed the beasts, had a snack to fight the hangover, medicated, and went back to bed.  I woke up Teh German multiple times to tell him it was time to get ready to go, but he wasn't having it.

We had reservations for paddle boarding/kayaking at 0930, but apparently no one took me seriously when I told them this.  I had said we needed to leave by 0830/0840.  I finally got out of the bed at 0815, feeling fine (which is a miracle when you're this old), got ready and headed downstairs. Teh German was, magically, headed to the car at 0842, so I was keeping my shit in control.  Circumstances happened and we finally left the house at 0900 and I was not impressed.  Teh German managed to get us there at exactly 0930.  Thank the traffic gods.

Our reservation was at Shem Creek and we opted to go towards the bay to start with.  It was ROUGHHHHHH.  There was a slight breeze and a super strong current.  The plus side was that we ran into Teh SC Teacher and Teh SC German on the water!  Instead of following a group of kayakers into a small stream which would be difficult to traverse/turn around, we opted to head back the other way.  This was a great idea.

Until we had to come back and fight that same current and breeze again.  UGH.  25 minutes of an enjoyable ride, 45+ minutes of fighting and grunting and putting in a LOTTTT more effort than I wanted to give to get back.  I wondered what the protocol was for just calling the office to get them to fetch you with a boat.  I also suggested to Teh German that we pay a fisher in a boat to tow us back.  I was OVER it.  I really enjoy paddle boarding, but to fight such a strong current really did not float my boat.

After paddle boarding, we headed to Red's for lunch.  I'm slowly starting to like this place.  Teh Stepmom wanted seafood and we needed a place that had outside, casual seating, since we were STINKY.  Teh German really likes Red's (it's where we went on our 2nd date), so it didn't hurt his feelings.

After lunch, we headed back home and I got to take a blissful shower and ended up taking a nap.

When I woke up, I ended up reading for a little bit.  Eventually, I went downstairs and Teh German had set up the Bristol 500 on the TV.  Teh Dad got to NASCAR-geek out with Teh German, who appreciated his knowledge.

While they were watching the pre-race things, I started working on a project for Teh Running Bestie on the Cricut.  MD state flag greyhound stickers.  The hardest part of the project was cutting the stickers apart because the pattern of the vinyl was very tricksy with the eyes.  I survived to whine about it another day.

While the Cricut was cutting, we heated up leftover for dinner.  I did end up sitting down and watching the last half of the race with everyone... and by watch it I mean snark at the announcers and all the commercials the entire time.  I was literally cheering for wrecks, which didn't really happen after the 2nd lap.  Until the very end.. and then it was only 2 wrecks.  BOOOOOOOOOOO.

I did have to LOOOOL when the winner took off with his helmet on top of his car and then his [bitter, non-winning] brother made fun of him during his interview.  After the race, it was bedtime.

SUNDAY

Sunday, I tried to sleep in.  Pax ensured that didn't happen by poking me in the eyes with his booptastic nose.  Dick.  Teh German ended up getting up with the dogs and staying up.  I stayed the hell in bed.  Brunch was at The Obstinate Daughter on Sullivans Island at 1130, and we needed to leave at 1045.  I managed to force myself out of bed at 0930 so I could shower and be ready in time.  Much to my surprise, we were headed out of the driveway by 1045.

Shrimp roll and grit frites

The food was good, but the menu was a little weird.  It's one of those beach/causal/fancy places.  The food was good, but it was somewhere you have to google the ingredients just to make sure of what you're about to order.  I told Teh German I wanted to go back for dinner.  I wans't super impressed by their brunch offerings.  I believe that Teh Dad and Teh Stepmom would have enjoyed a normal brunch cafe type place much better... and me probably too consider that I wanted breakfast, not a sandwich.  Also, it's fancy beach expensive, so that was also a bummer.

After brunch, we went to Lidl and Publix for some grocery shopping.  Everyone was over it by the time we got to Publix, and it only enforced why I order my groceries online and we pick them up.  After, we headed home.  When we got home, I started dinner (homemade spaghetti sauce) and packaged up the meat I had purchased into smaller portions for the freezer.  Teh Dad and Teh German set about hanging my cabinet in the laundry room (which I didn't get a picture of because I was staying as far away from the project room as possible, unless directly summoned).  I ended up making a sticker for Teh PT Kid's water bottle that Teh PT Wife had asked me to make.  We were proud of our hard work (her idea, my Cricut/design skillz).

I bought a purple cactus at Lidl.  It's awesome and brings me joy.

Teh German: Purple and prickly, just like you!"
He gets me.

We finally ate dinner around 6:30 and I was pretty proud of my efforts... even though we were out of long noodles and I had to use rotini.  Oh welll!

By the time we cleaned up dinner, it was 8:20 and Teh German suggested watching a movie.  Apparently he doesn't understand that I am "It's too late to start a movie after 8pm" years old.  I ended up saying fine, despite just wanting to go to bed.  We ended up watching Despicable Me 3 (bleh) since it was less than 1.5 hours long, which was my criteria.

After it was over, it was bedtime... and the weekend was at a close.  😭😭

______________________________________________

Overall, an eventful weekend.  Willow now has beach sand in her, which makes me feel like a true local.  I tried to vacuum it out, but it's sand.  We accomplished many fun activities and a project that I was glad to get done with.

This week:
-Had a doc visit this morning to follow up on my hot flashes.  They have disappeared with the birth control the doc put me on, but the weight gain and PMS have been unpleasant side effects.  I start on a new, lower dose pill tomorrow for 8 weeks and we'll see what happens.

-School starts Wednesday.  I'm not ready.  Not even a little bit.

-More kickboxing and running this week.

-I got some delightful news at work and it's not public yet so I'm trying not to count my chickens before they hatch, but I'm ready to dance a fucking jig around the office and plan a "YAY you're going away party".  #NotSorry

-Papa G was inquiring about our trip to Germany over Christmas and he was NOT pleased when Teh German had to tell him we're waiting on the government to tell us if Teh German can go or not.  As much as I give Papa G shit for planning all the things a millionty years in advance, I, too, would like to plan our trip, so I'd like the government to hurry up and let us know as well.  I think Teh German is in the same boat for more reasons than just our trip to Germany.

PS.  We're within a few weeks of potentially cool weather and I AM SO PUMPED FOR Charleston Summer to begin (what most of you would consider fall).

Five on Friday #159

EINS - Random Shit

-I MADE A D IN CALCULUS 2!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Know what a D is?  PASSING.  A D means not having to retake a hell class.

I failed my CS class, which is kind of a disappointment, but I kind of don't care.
AND HERE'S WHY....
Since I took the CS class at CofC, it doesn't count towards my degree unless I have it transferred in, which I won't do, since I failed it.  That class isn't a pre-req for any of my classes that I'm taking in the fall (or in general, I believe), although it is a CS degree requirement.  I will retake it in the spring, having "reviewed" it.  I figure that passing one of 2 super hard classes on a compressed schedule is pretty good, so I'm giving myself a pass and I'm proud of myself.

-How about this for productive...
NOT ONLYYYYY did I post HM #3 post.. I alsooooooo:
~finished editing HM photos, so other than write ups, the honeymoon posts are practically duuuunn
~created the new Shit Teh German Says button AND generated at least 2 of those posts.  Turns out, I hadn't even shared the HM ones, which were hilarious.  This month will remedy that problem.
~Created a bonus HM post for the random photos that I took along the way that didn't really fit into the recaps.  Expect: silly shit and flesh tone pants (WHHHYY???)

Did anyone else think I was going to crash and burn on the honeymoon recaps after posting the 2nd post?  Just me?  Ya'll so nice.

-Yesterday, a coworker said to me, "I really missed you being in the office."  I won't lie.  It made me happy.  I missed being in the office.

-We/I made the decision to stay home this weekend rather than go to Raleigh to visit with Teh Advising Sister and I feel like turd, but I know she understands that I'm beat and I'd probably just want to nap the entire time.. and while that's not frowned upon, I could save myself the effort of driving 5 hours and her the effort of putting sheets on the guest bed, and we can just tell each other sweet dreams over a text.

-Company is hiring a tech writer for the position I was fired from.
Adult Megan is like: They need a tech writer, it's fine.
Petty Megan is like: I hope they hire someone that is garbage.
Paranoid Megan is like: I really hope this person doesn't replace me.

-We're watching The Ranch and Zach Brown Band - Colder Weather was played for a monumental event and I CANNOT STOP SINGING IT..  I'm getting on my own nerves.  Even after listening to other genres of music... I still keep singing that song.  ./wrist

-I JUST REALIZED that Rooster was also in That 70s Show, as was Berto and Abby's Mom.  HELL YEAH FOR RECOGNITION SKILLZ..

-Because it's never going to stop raining on the weekend, I suggested to Teh German on Wednesday that we skip the gym and ride Bagheera and Suzi to dinner.  We opted for Mex 1 on Sullivan's Island.  Every now and then I pull the #BestWifeEver card and flash it around.

-I made an impulse buy of a deodorant ball for my gym bag.  What they don't tell you is that deodorant might be able to withstand your body heat, but it cannot survive sitting in a car in Charleston for the entire day.  #LessonLearned #oops.

-Sometimes I have to remind myself that my name changed.  For instance, someone called me MG in a meeting and I'm like, "Who dat?  Oh shit, dat me."  Also, I went to sign a work poster and I signed Megan and then was about to sign MaidenName when I realized that's wrong now.  They hired Megan MaidenName, but Megan MarriedName works here now.  #LifeIsHard #NameChangeIsHarder

-I believe Teh German gets upset when he finds accounts still in my maiden name.  He's like, you should change all these places where your name is wrong.  Yes, yes I should.  But like a million different places have the name I had for THIRTY-TWO YEARSSSSS, so calm your tits, hombre.  It's not that important to me.  It's why I changed my name how I did.  I can claim BOTH last names as my name, in a pinch.

-More on that.  I used to really worry that changing my last name was going to feel like the loss of an identity.  It wasn't.  It isn't.  In fact, it's really more annoying than anything because I have to change everything over/remember what name I used for what.  Teh German has this annoying way of creating passwords related to what year it is and where he's at.  IDK, it seems annoying to me, but it's the only way I can keep up with my accounts.  Was this account set up PRE or POST marriage?  That's how I know what name is on the account.

-The plus side to not going to Raleigh is that I can keep my hairs did appointment.  I'm gonna do the purple again and hope for the best when I show up at the Citadel with purple hairs.  It was one thing over the summer when everything is relaxed and no one is in uniform.  Not sure the normal school year will be as flexible.  We shall see.

-Teh Dad and Teh Stepmom are coming to CHS to visit the weekend before school starts.  We're going paddle boarding/kayaking while they are here and I'm pumped.  Teh German and I will paddle board while Teh Dad and Teh Stepmom kayak.  I think I'm going to sign us up for a tour with a guide so we can actually get some knowledge dropped on us and the guide will probably be able to potentially lead us to the dolphins, which would be extra cool.  A guide costs a little more, but Teh German and I agreed it would be worth it.  Also, Teh German and I are paying a mabillionty dollhairs to go hang gliding with Teh Dad, so it's only fair. :)

-Teh German and I ran a toll booth (or 2) while we were in CA.  I recently received a "2nd notice" for one of the incidents when I KNEW I paid for when I got the original notice in June.  I called to inquire about the issue and turns out, the 2nd notice was for a different toll booth.  I explained I hadn't received a first notice and the rep saw that I'd already paid one violation so she offered to reduce it to $5.  You ain't gonna hear me complain about a $25 discount.  After ensuring there were no more violations I needed to take care of, I gave her my card info over the phone and the problem was resolved.

-Dear California,
Some of your tolls being card only or cash only is really annoying.  Get it together.  Either accept both everywhere or only one everywhere.  But this mishmash is obnoxious.
~Out-of-state Driver

-Everyone received a company 10 year anniversary shirt.  I never got mine, so I asked about it.  Coworker had put it on my chair on the day of the anniversary.  When I came into the office a few days later, there was no shirt.  BOOOOOO to the beeyoch who stole my free shirt!  #LaterGram: It was later found on A chair in a conference room.  Woot.

-I've been working on various Cricut projects and I just have to say... large projects are a PITA.  Small projects like single stickers/etc are fine.. but a large layout is complicated when you have a 12x12 limitation.  I'm going to be pissed if I find out that I could have just bought a longer mat and printed up to 18 inches.  Research done.  I could have used a 24" mat and saved myself a LOT of heartache.  FML.  #LessonLearnedTheHardWay

-My Cricut problem might be out of control.  I went from looking at mats to watching someone print their own stickers, to researching sticker paper, to researching laser printers so I can do all of that myself.  Now I NEEDS a laser printer.  Then I'd be UNSTOPPABLLLEEE!!!  I also would need to actually sell some of these creations so I can recoup some of the money I've spent on a "hobby".. and here I am judging Teh German for his motorcycle parts.

-If I committed to making things for you, fret not, they are in progress.  You know who you are.  My goal is to have them completed by this weekend and mailed out on Monday.

-2 assholes illegally passed me on my way to work.  I was going 38.. in a 30 MPH ZONE!  I have definitely been pulled over on that road before, so I know to keep it under control.  That said, there's a school on the road, which means that the cops don't bother sitting on the road during the summer.  /facepalm.  I almost want to call the non-emergency line to complain, but I don't want to be a tattle-tail.  Also, who the fuck is this old lady that has taken me over?

ZWEI - Money Shit

-Post semester massage.
-Target.. and considering I was unsupervised, I did good.  Or maybe I should say, since I wasn't enabled, I did guud.
-Groceries x like a millionty.  I needed supervision there.
-CA tolls.. /facepalm
-a new laptop for Teh German, not a necessity, but it was time.
-dog food (which always confuses me since it's on autoship)
-card stock for testing Cricut things.
-long sticky mats for the Cricut
-a book for Baby RM since I didn't particularly lurve any of the ones I bought for the baby shower... like lurve enough to leave a note in.

DREI - From My Phone Shit

Dogs, this is NOT how I left it.
You are both assholes.
You fit in perfectly.
FML/

Finally put my matching sticker on my water bottle.
Aaaaanddddd I'm going to create new stickers for us with a block text so they don't have pointy pieces that peel off.
#CricutLessons

This ultra-encouraging water bottle.
Apparently, the owner drinks TWO of those per day.
Uhh, that's a no for me.

10 confetti for Company's 10 year anniversary.
Someone sitting beside me in the meeting handing me a piece of confetti and said,
"You're a 10 in my book."
Much appreciated, coworker.

Cricutting all the things.
Also, wtf is that picture so yellow?
Strange.

Look at me looking cute and professional at work.

When you let your car drive you to work and you just hang on to the steering wheel so you don't make other people nervous.

What do you call a sleeping bull?
A bull-dozer

I couldn't possibly say no to this t-shirt from Old Navy.
#LadyPower

VIER - From the Internet Shit

A coworker introduced me to a comic called Coffee With Jesus.  There was much loling.

FÜNF - Things that made me happy this week

  1. Making comments like, "Yes, I'm extremely happy with a D.  Considering how shitty the entire month of July was for me, a D is fantastic," in front of the person who fired me from their project.  BURN, motherfucker, BURN.
  2. Work tasks.
  3. $25 fee being waved for toll running.
  4. Being back in the office.  I was feeling like a real slacker never coming into the office and there are sometimes fun things at work.. like free Cinnabon in the kitchen (that's a true example from this week).
  5. Dinner experiments that are delicious (lookin' at you chicken pot pie biscuits)
  6. Teh German's giddiness about his new laptop.  Particularly in the form of a video of Cortana talking to him.  He'd never experienced Cortana since I turn that skank off as soon as I open a new computer.
  7. Killing mosquitoes while they are in the act of sucking my blood.  Die, motherfucker, die.
  8. Neighbors who know that pawning off food when you go on vacation is completely acceptable.
  9. My rainbow hand wraps for the gym.
  10. My Berks.. I love/hate how comfortable they are.  They are the German version of crocs or Uggs or other socially unacceptable shoes.

Happy Friday, Gentle Readers.
