On Friday, when it hit me that I'd no longer have a .mil account, for the first time since 2008.. I was kinda shell shocked. There's some BIG BIG changes going down in my/our world and it's very slowly starting to hit me and this was one of the first real acknowledgments that things are gonna change and then there were FEELINGS. Ugh.
Many of you noticed in the last few months that I was dealing with some work strife. After finishing school, I had planned to move on to a technical position with the same company that I had worked with since getting out of the Navy, but they didn't want to move me and I was beyond frustrated with additional tasking I had been given that was not anything related to technical writing... so in a fit of rage, I started applying for jobs.
Civilian jobs, government jobs. Jobs in South Carolina (SC) and Colorado (CO) and Washington DC and Maryland (MD). Intel jobs and computer science jobs and I was even open to some tech writer jobs under certain conditions. COUNTLESS applications put in and resumes sent out. A handful of recruiter calls and possibilities. A handful of phone and video interviews. Numerous rejections, 3 selections, 2 opportunities turned down (despite the higher salaries of both), and ultimately, 1 acceptance.
At the very beginning of July, a perfect opportunity presented itself and I was notified that I landed the job within 2 hours of finishing the interview. But then I had to wait half my life (approximately) for my background check to clear (because COVID + government + reinvestigation) and that gave me too much time to second guess and third guess and thirty-third guess my choices.
I hemmed and hawed and you probably already knew this, but Teh German is the real MVP here. He dealt with my #MeganProblems for a month and a half. He listened to me play devil's advocate with myself about what the best decision was and watched as I continued to apply for other jobs "just in case" (aka, Megan is ridiculous). And let's be honest... Without Teh German, I wouldn't be where I am today. He was my #1 cheerleader through school and when I asked him if he was reeeeeeaaaalllllyyy ok with moving to MD so I could take a technical job (aka use my computer science degree), he said yes (even if he was moderately hesitant).
For him, moving to MD wasn't in the plans. We had already decided our next move was to CO. But there were no jobs for me in CO and Teh German was well-aware just how unhappy I was with (now) Former Company. He'd listened to the rants and seen the tears and ragey FB posts. When the Dept of Justice (DOJ) finally notified me that I was cleared for "duty", I didn't immediately know what to do. I knew what I WANTED to do, but I also knew that there were some other opportunities on the table that maybe should be considered... but most importantly, I wanted to sit down with Teh German and give him ONE LAST opportunity to say, "Yeah, let's not move from SC unless it's to CO." This was a valid option because I had a contact at NIWC in Charleston that wanted to bring me on, but it was a matter of time.
For Teh German, moving means finding and starting a new job 8 months after he just started his current job. The job that we had to hire a lawyer to mitigate not getting sued by his German company. The job he likes. It means moving away from the only place he's ever lived in America, his comfort zone, if you will.
For both of us, it means leaving the GLCK and our SC Framily and nothing breaks my heart more, as we are sooo fortunate to have found such great people who live on our street and love us for all our weirdness.
...But..
Teh German said...
"Do it, babe. This is what you worked for. You tried to get a job with [Former Company] and they wouldn't take you, so if this is what you want... DO IT. I support you."
^^The real MVP, yall.
And I said yes to the final offer and then had so much anxiety!
We obviously hadn't planned on moving in the next 2 years, much less 6 months. I had planned Charleston runs through 2021. Our tickets to Barbados in October leave from Charleston. I had been with Former Company for 5.5 years and I am loyal AF. I mean, they dealt with 3 years of me going to school full-time and working full-time. They let me telework from Germany so I could study abroad. They let me telework after my hip surgery. We drank in the office. I had it made. But I was soooo unhappy these last 3 months that it was unbearable and that made the decision easier.
So.. today was my first day at DOJ. On Saturday, I drove up to MD to stay with Teh Bestie and Teh Chief Smartass. We hung out over the weekend and today I was able to take the Metro into DC to get to the office to pick up my equipment and get my ID card.
Since most things government related are still at max telework, I'll be headed back to SC this week. By the end of this week, I'll be calling the realtor to start the process of getting the house ready to put on the market. In a fortunate turn of events, Teh German accepted a new job in MD within the last week which is also operating at max teleworking.... which means 2 things... 1- We'll both be working from home for the foreseeable future, 2- There isn't a pants on fire rush to complete a move.
Our current plan is to put the house on the market and live in it while it's under contract until we have to leave. At which point, we'll move into Teh Chief Smartass/Teh Bestie's basement. During the under contract/basement dweller time, we will be house hunting in MD and hopefully this less stressful situation will give us the ability to be more selective with the house we ultimately buy.
So yeah.. that's the full rundown of the current situation.
Teh Ville is relocating and hopefully we'll be unpacking Teh Ville 3.0 (shitty house, Charleston house, MD house) by Christmas.
But also... new ID photo yall.
I wasn't allowed to show teeth. The first photo had 6 chins and I wasn't even looking at the camera, so we had a redo to get this gem. The other lady that was onboarding with me today said we looked like the daughter's of Trump because we are ORANGE, I mean check out how white my neck is... Could that lighting be any worse? Also, my shiny face is from sweating incessantly because of walking around and wearing non-breathable clothing and a MASK.

EINS - Random Shit
-Fucking Blogger. I thought that I was getting my comments emails. Turns out I am not. Sorry if you think I am ignoring you. I am not, Blogger has failed us all. I'm trying to migrate to Disqus, which is fine except I cannot manage to import my old comments, which means I can't see comments from the past 2 weeks to even respond to them manually. #ThisIsMyLife-I will be streaming the FIFA games at work and #Iaintsorry. No one ever uses the televisions in the spaces, so I figured, why not. My coworkers said soccer was super boring but these are the same people who love football and, well.. I do not like football.
Coworker: boooo.. soccer is boring AF. They run around for 90 minutes and flounce around acting dramatic when they get tripped, in hopes of eventually scoring.
Me: I'd rather watch men run around a field for 90 minutes than spend an hour of my life watching gangs of men repeatedly tackle each other.
See also, America's solution to problems vs the rest of the world.
America: TACKLE THEM, VIOLENCE.
Rest of the world: Trip em and run!
-I have an ID card called a CAC that I have to use for work. Well, my CAC was fucked up and it took me 2 days and hours of my life to get it "fixed" and it still doesn't work. In the process of fixing it, I told on myself for not using my Company laptop for work and got a talking to about it from IT. So now, I have to deal with a broke CAC AND start using my Company laptop.. so it's like going back to the stone age. #MeganProblems
-When you give someone a phone number as fast as humanly possible and then act like it's my fault I didn't get catch it all and then act like I'm bothering you when I ask you to repeat that, you're an asshole.
-If you're on a military base and describe a building as, "the one with the flagpole outside", I want to punch you.
-DoD websites that do not serve the function they were created for are pointless and a waste of taxpayer's money. #JustSayin
-I've been taking Teh PT Kid to/from his Citadel summer camp this week. I've learned a lot. Mostly that he has 2 settings.
1. AWAKE OMG BEY BLADES TRAINS HUNGER.
2. Silence (because he's sleeping).
-Doing nice things for people brings me joy. Especially when they tell you how much the action brightened their day.
-I went running this week. I should really do that more than once a month.
-My Chase miles card gives me double points on travel and dining. I thought it was just travel. This makes my card even better than I thought. I've already paid for my flights to Tulsa and Chicago for runs with my points I've already earned (and the bonus points at the start) and I started using this card in January. #LikeABoss
PS. Each month the card gets completely paid off. This is the only way I would ever recommend anyone use a credit card.
-There's a 2000 piece Disney puzzling still laid out on my dining room table and I've cleared off the buffet so I can also lay out the rest of the pieces. I'm also considering setting up the beer pong table so I can put the edge on it and then work on inside chunks on the dining room table. I'd really love some assistance on it, but I think it's scary to everyone that sees it and I think my biggest problem with doing it is that I don't have anywhere to actually WORK on it with all the pieces laid out.
TL;DR: This puzzle is taking over my dining room and I need help completing it.

VIER - From the Internet Shit
I assume that most people generally pass up this section because you're busy and you have shit to do and you already read through my millionty page long blog post, but PLEASE PLEASE PLLLLEEEAAASSEEE click this link and read it and tell me your thoughts. This article is about Emotional Labor, a term I learned while listening to my most recent audiobook, and it has changed my life. It put a name to something that I didn't have a name for and giving something a name helps identify it so you can work on the issue.
I'm not getting anything out of you clicking that other than satisfaction about spreading the word. That article sums up soooo many of my frustrations in life and explains why Teh Running Bestie and I worked so well as roommates.
FÜNF - Things that made me happy this week

- Breakstone cottage cheese and fruit

- Work sponsored pizza for lunch
- Tap to pay working at some places in America
- The power of Sudafed to make Teh German's nose stop running so he can feel better
and not be whiny about feeling bad.

EINS
Another no-Wednesday post week. #notsorry. Truthfully, I just didn't have enough to "confess". I think instead of confessions I just need to change my prompt to "It's Ok..." I give self-guilt myself about a lot of things and I just need to let myself off the hook. I am my own worst enemy. For instance...
It's ok..
...that I ripped the sheets with my brace on Monday night. #shithappens and I can do nothing about it. It just sucks that those are some of my favorite sheets because they are so soft. BUTTT, this does give me a reason to finally replace the sheets (as if we really need replacements) since I also may or may not have bleached the pillow cases with some benzoyl peroxide cream after Teh German moved in...
...that I just (re)discovered that my keyboard has function keys to control Spotify.
...that I've planned a Nerd day on Saturday (after we clean the bathrooms and take the dogs for a nail trim) since my new Kindle arrived on Thursday and my new laptop arrives today.
...to wait after new toys arrive to tinker with them since I'll be busy all day today with work/Ortho appt/shooting a wedding.
...to wear jeans to work, especially when wearing dresses means wearing another outfit under my dress so I can wear my brace.. and well, that's just too many layers for Charleston summer.
...to put off work because it's not high priority right now to compose this post. The formatting is a nightmare that will require some serious dedication and it just seems like too much effort my first week back at work.
...to work half days at the office as I "ease" myself back into being at the office.
...that I didn't get this post done before my doctor's appointment on Friday... Which leads us tooooooo.....
ZWEI
The Hip Update:Ortho informed me earlier that I could have been out of my hip brace 2 weeks ago/the 1 month/4 week mark. I tried to set him on fire with my eyes but failed. That would have saved me a set of sheets and a lot of shitty sleeps.
Good sides to this:
-No more brace.
-I can actually work on things at PT.
-I'm mostly healed.
-No more driving restrictions.
-No more ripped sheets.
-Better sleeps.
-Less guilt over not wearing my brace.
Bad sides:
-No more external lap band/sweat band, which was certainly helping with the wedding diet.
-What the fuck do I do with a $1000+ hip brace and $(how ever much I paid for) crutches?

From my brain:
-I still need to buy sudafed. Having to purchase it from a pharmacy annoys me.-It bothers me that there is no orientation for The Citadel for veteran day students. It would be nice to have someone take me around and actually introduce me to the school rather than go to a webpage and download a map and hope for the best. Also, maybe I've been ruined by NCSU, but when the shit can I finally pay for parking?
-I need to go backpack shopping. I love my backpack, but the beverage holder on the side is too small and ripped and it makes me sad. I need to find a backpack with extra padded straps like this one, but at least moderately cute.
-I was honest about why I was returning a Kindle that I ordered on Prime Day. I accidentally ordered a black one and the order couldn't be cancelled so I had to accept it and just purchase another one. To get the color that I wanted, yellow, I had to make another order. Which means now I have to return the black one and I'll be paying $3 to return it since it was my own mistake. I probably could have lied and said it was wrong, but I'm going for some good karma.
-I have no idea what I'm wearing to the wedding I'm shooting in 2 hours. I should work on that.
-When you ask someone to dog sit for you, here's a few tips:
1. Do not bring your dogs to the beach to wear them out and let them guzzle down salt water if you know it gives them ass pee.
2. Do not start your dog on a new food the day you drop them off with the dog sitter. Again, ass pee.
3. Breakdown your dog's daily life for the sitter so they can know what to expect from your dog(s). When the dogs expect to be fed helps the sitter understand why your dog is acting so weird at a particular time. What time the dog wakes up tells the sitter when they can expect to need to let the dog out.
You can ask our dog sitter, I leave an obnoxiously detailed note when we leave the dogs. This is to help my dog sitter help me. We keep Meri and Pax on a consistent schedule because our life works better when they are on a schedule. Everyone knows what to expect. Dogs thrive on consistency.
-I've ran the carpet cleaner 2x in less than 12 hours and it makes for an unpleasant day.
-I will be working normal work days next week and I'm kinda dreading it. Additionally, we have customers visiting and I'm considering wearing my hip brace so they will stay out of my way.
-I have high hopes my ring won't be super expensive. We're planning on buying 2 sets of rings. A real ring and a silicone ring for each of us.
-I really feel like I need a brain dump, but I've noticed I've started to censor here and it makes me sad.
FÜNF
10 things that made me happy this week:- NO MORE MOTHER FUCKING HIP BRACE.
- I remembered our anniversary (8/2) last night and I thought of the perfect gift for Teh German.. oh and I already bought it. #likeaboss
- Ridiculous ID pictures.
- New technology (my new laptop arrives today at some point and the new Kindle should be here on Monday).
- Clean Yurtle.
- New stickers
- Dog sitting (I should caveat this with the fact that doesn't include the stress that the dogs wouldn't eat, one was afraid of me, and I've already had to use my carpet cleaner 2x in the last 24 hours).
- Being back at work and having a routine.
- Watching some Grey's Anatomy.
- Making appointments to take care of shit that needs to get handled that I've put off and put off... (dermatologist, Yurtle doc appointment, hair cut, massage, Dan Ryan repairs, dance lesson, etc).
Happy Friday, Gentle Readers.

EINS
The possibility of my going to DC for work in the next few weeks is VERY high and I'm trying NOT to get my hopes up about it, but OMG I'M SO EXCITED! I'm hoping that I can go next week, which would mean flying up towards the end of the week for a meeting, then spending the weekend with Teh MD-AR, then going back to DC for a meeting on Monday, then flying home so I can be home on the 8th to vote. SC doesn't do early voting, because #stupidbullshittary and the process to absentee vote is complicate and requires the USPS and #aintnobodygottimefordat.I'll just cast my vote in person on the 8th, which will also mean I'm home for the 10th. I'm not sure what is happening on the 10th, but Teh German added an event to the calendar that says "Surprise" and won't tell me anything about it. I won't lie, I did google events in Charleston on the 10th and after some analysis, no solid assessments could be made. Additionally, I don't really want to ruin the surprise.
It's very rare that anyone surprises me, so I'm pumped about this.. even though I know I have a surprise coming. #itshardtobeme
ZWEI
I shaved Meri myself (with some assistance of Teh MD-AR holding Meri) to save some dollas. I felt like every time I've had her groomed, with the exception of her first session which was done by a someone I personally knew who is awesome, I've had complaints and I was tired of paying money for something I wasn't happy with. So, I did it myself and holy balls it was difficult. It took us around an hour and a half to shave her happy ass. That did include a few breaks for her to fetch her mousie and the other dogs were out at first and were very distracting. Nonetheless, I'd call it a success and I'd probably do it again since I saved myself $60+ dollars. I only paid $55 for the clippers, so I did at least break even doing it once myself.![]() |

From the phone:I found Phil in the guest room the other day after looking for him downstairs, in our room, on the couches upstairs, and on the guest bed. I couldn't figure out why he'd choose to lay on the dog bed, but then I remembered that Teh MD-AR had put blankets on the bed for Olive to sleep on. My Phil boy must be missin' his other Momma and the girls.
New ID photo. I'm going to have to come up with a new face for the next one. Also, I should have crossed an eye.
I've been lazy about dinners this past month and after a week of soup and a weekend of eating out, all I wanted was salads. This was from last night. Huevos rancheros themed salad (I didn't follow the recipe exactly) with Kathy's chicken and avocado salad with a side of baked corn tortillas (I make my own so we don't have bags of tortilla chips sitting around since Teh German tends to make those disappear very quickly).

From the internet:~Funny photos.
~I don't watch SNL, but I did actually look up their skits on the debates because I knew they'd be gold. Spoiler alert: I wasn't wrong.
~You know about Clinton's classified email situation.. but do you really? Did you know that some of the emails contained information that was classified after she sent the email? Did you know that the classification of information is subjective? Did you know that information that isn't classified can be aggregated to create classified information? Did you know that it takes multiple known offenses to get your security clearance downgraded and something significant to get it revoked? Did you know that some politicians don't even have to have a security clearance to have access to classified data?
I'm not trying to change your mind about who you're voting for, but I am trying to tell you that there is more to every story (and meme and veteran telling you'd they'd be in jail for doing what she did (actually probably not)) than what you're being force fed by the media.
~What it's like to run as a woman...
~THIS THIS THIS, an article from National Geographic about Galgos and Podencos! I know we have sooo many issues facing us today, but this one is near and dear to my heart: animal rescue. You may (or may not) know that Meri is a Podenco from Spain. Often when I tell people that exact statement, I get a lot of, "Padenko? Never heard of it." That's fair, me either until I became a sighthound person. I could educate you, but I'll let you read up about the breed on your own if you're interested.
Nonetheless, these dogs are shunned by society and often tortured and killed. Granted, this has a lot to do with culture, and having lived/visited other countries, there are some countries where dogs are treated as pests rather than pets. This article conveys everything you need to know about why I adopted a dog from abroad rather than a shelter pet from the US.
PS. I personally know the lady with the 2 dogs in the photo at the top of the article and she's awesome!

Weekend Wrap Up {7-14}
Friday
This happened Friday afternoon:Teh MD Teenage Roomie: What? No Friday post?
Teh Megan: Nope, I was busy resume writing and I actually applied for a job in Charleston, so I mean, it was the worth sacrifice?
Teh MD Teenage Roomie: Maybe.
Did I mention how much Teh Roomies rock?
That conversation pretty much sums up my entire Friday actually, but since you weren't there, I'll tell you all about it, since that's how this works!
Friday morning I managed to make it into work with my "found" ID. The problem with the "found" ID is that it doesn't work in the computersAfter getting my ID, I was able to get on the computer. I was busy doing work things because apparently no one else got the no-work-Friday memo that I get every week and I was networking with a friend who was helping with my resume. She found a position with her company, but based in Charleston, that she said I was totally capable of doing, even though I had discounted it as something I couldn't do. I really love having such encouraging and motivating friends, it makes all the difference in the world. I formally applied for the job after my Friday gym session. I feel so accomplished and proud and professional and shit. Now if I would/could just rewrite my resume for some of the other positions I've found and apply, that'd be grrrrreat.
Oh, and to add to the list of reasons why I have the best roomies:
![]() |
| They bought me this shirt because of my hangar problem. |
Instead of going to the River Concert Friday evening, we fumbled through dinner (because I failed at sending the grocery list), and then Teh MD Adult Roomie and I went to Dick's and Kohl's while Teh MD Teenage Roomie was at practice. I tried on a hydration belt. I have a feeling I'll be purchasing one of those in the near future, uggghhh.. I'm just not "runner" enough for a hydration belt... waaahhh. Don't want. I did want 1 of the 12ish bras I bought at Kohl's to fit. I got to return them all, but I tried again and had some successes. Boobs are tricky. Seriously.
After we all got back home, we hung out and worked on the puzzle we started earlier in the week.
After staying up till way too late, we finally headed to bed.

| Spooning with Miley is one of my favorite things. |
Saturday
The dogs slept in until 0630 on Saturday. Normally, they are up at 0500, so this was an awesome thing. Teh MD Adult Roomie and I got up and fed them and instead of going back to bed, we played on the internet for a bit instead of going on the runs we both had said we were going to do. Finally, we motivated each other to just go on a walk together instead of running. We were able to commit to that.
After our walk, we got ready and headed to GHC for Miley's adoptathon. As sad I am to see her go, I know that she is going to be in excellent hands and she was already being fawned over and they had just decided on her. She will be staying with us for another week so she can get a dental done, but she will be leaving us next Saturday, so it's going to be a bittersweet week. We came home with Miley and had to fight off the urge to nap so we could be productive instead. Teh MD Adult Roomie and I went out and picked up a yard sale item we'd been looking for and balloons and birthday cake for the evening's festivities. When we got back, I had considered washing cars, but dealing with teenagers in the evening warranted a nap, which was deeeelightful. After a successful birthday party, we headed back home to wind down andddddd we completed the puzzle!
| She's pretty special. I'm going to miss these ladies! |

After the Meri woke me up at 0615, I laid in bed telling myself I should go run since I hadn't the day prior. It was early enough. I could put in some serious miles. I should do it. I could do it. After 30 minutes of debate, I finally got up and did it.![]() |

| 9.6 miles, 1 hr 41 mins, 10:32 pace |
It was pretty humid, but the temps were in the low 70s when I started and there was a breeze. It's amazing what a difference shade and a breeze can make. I probably could have picked up my pace some, but I knew I was adding some miles, so I didn't want to wear myself too early in the game. I actually ended up picking the pace towards the end for 2 reasons. I needed to make it to church in time and because I wanted to push out the end. I would have went for 10 miles if I hadn't been pressed for time. Maybe next time.
I did end up making it to church on time, which was good since Teh MD Teenage Roomie went with me. YAY! Our afternoon plan originally included a boat ride to Vera's for lunch, but after some technical difficulties, we ended up going to Vera's sans the boat ride. I had never been and it was pretty delicious. Of course, my food was spicy and despite Teh MD Adult Roomie and I ordering the same thing, her's wasn't spicy. I'm super sensitive, it's obnoxious. After lunch, we came back home and relaxed for the evening. I probably should have packed something or cleaned something or did something productive.. but instead I wrote this blog post. You're welcome
Ok, maybe I'll go put away my laundry and pull out my suitcases and call it done.
Oh for the grand finale, check out what we found earlier this week when we woke up...
