2015 Ramblin Rose Triathlon - Winston-Salem, NC

Teh MD Adult Roomie and I participated in the Ramblin Rose triathlon in Winston-Salem on August 16, 2015. It was... an experience.

We decided that we're not tri-ers, we're runners.  If I was being completely honest, I'd totally do a regular triathlon (vs a sprint, which is what this one was) if I didn't have to do the bike portion.  I'd happily swim AND run, as long as I didn't have to bike.  Although the bike was when I got to wear my special helmet, so there's that.

PACKET PICKUP

We picked up our packets on Saturday at Fleet Feet in Winston-Salem.  Suzy/Google didn't know that Fleet Feet had moved, so I was following directions to their unoccupied building.. no bueno.  That did lead me to finding a Winterfire store, which meant I got to peruse some StoryPeople prints while I was waiting on The MD Adult Roomie to arrive, so I didn't mind.

The race workers who were handing out packets were bitches and there was no real direction on what to do.  There were many first time triathletes there, so I'm sure we all could have used a little more direction.

First we were approached by a lady who was holding up a sign for us to estimate our swim time on and she would assign us a group and write a number on our hand.  She was helpful.  Then we went into the packet area and there was no one at one of the tents, but the merchandise tent had someone at it.  There was also a little table with forms on it.

That form seemed important and since it was the first thing on the way in the area, we went there to fill out a form.  Since there was no one at the table, we figured we could fill out the form there since there were no clipboards or any open tables to write on.  We just started writing when someone came over and told us we needed to move in a not friendly way (this isn't just my opinion, Teh MD Adult Roomie agreed with me and she's way nicer than me).  Almost 1/2 way through the form I realized we didn't actually need to do the form, but the lady hadn't asked us if we were already registered so we had figured we needed it.  Ugggh.

Then the ladies were jerks when we explained to them that we were pretty sure we already had filled out the form.  I figure as the 2nd interaction a participant has with race workers, you'd want to be a good interaction.. but that did not seem to be the case with these 2 ladies.  Finally, packets were handed over and we meandered to the merchandise table so Teh MD Adult Roomie (MD-AR) could pick up a bib belt (that's a thing apparently).  We walked inside and picked up our shirts and got swim caps (that neither of us wore because why would anyone wear a latex swim cap when silicone doesn't break all your hair off?).  We browsed around Fleet Feet and I picked up Body Glide (which Erin pointed out could be dirty, but it's anti-chafing stuff (that didn't work the first time I used it)) and my own bib belt (which I was gonna return but Meri ate the receipt like the #goatdog she is).

Then it was time to wait on it to be race day!

RACE DAY!

Our hotel was only 8 minutes from the YWCA where the race was happening, so we weren't worried when we looked at the clock and it was already 0620 and we hadn't left yet.  We wanted to get there early to get our biked checked over and tires pumped and get our station set up.

When we arrived, we brought our stuff to our station and then went to pick up our timing chips and got body art (left arm: race number, right arm: name, left calf: team name, right calf: age).  After we had all the stuffs, we set up our stations like we had seen in the example on Saturday at Fleet Feet.

We made it!

Getting my tires pumped up

Sexy body art!

We totally welcomed this photobomber.
Ok, and I had bombed their photo.  #sorrynotsorry

Tri-ready!

They opened the pool for warmups and I figured why not.  Yeah, after doing a few laps I was worried about the swim.  Then when I went to get out, I slipped off the edge and bashed my shin on the wall.  I had a knot form quickly after.  Good times.  It's a really pretty green/yellow color now and really prohibits satisfactory foam rolling.

Fishy selfie!

After warmups, we had to vacate the transition area and line up for the swim.  I had already told Teh MD-AR that I was going to wait on her before starting the bike portion, so we wished each other luck and headed to our different swim groups.  I had nothing to worry about during warm ups.  Once I got in my swimming groove, swimming 225 meters was fine.  Unfortunately, I underestimated my skill/time and I ended up having to pass 2 women and then got stuck in a line behind another lady, there were 3 of us stuck behind her, but we were almost to the end.  I ended up doing a lot of breast stroke because I needed to go slower so I wouldn't hit the person in front of me.

I waited 20 minutes for Teh MD-AR to finish her swim, then we headed off for 8 miles on the bikes.  During my wait, I did that awkward thing where I put on my sports bra over my swim suit.  I almost left it on over the suits since I was struggling with the straps and fearing REALLY stretching out my suit, but since I had time, went through the hassle of putting it under my suit, despite potential onlookers.  Whatevs, I couldn't NOT wear it for the run portion, so it had to happen.

Teh MD-AR had practiced biking, so she was way better than me.  Additionally, Monty was giving me serious problems and refused to shift gears which was obnoxious.  Had I practicing my biking more than once, I still wouldn't have been prepared for the HUGE FUCKING HILLS we encountered.  There's nothing in Charleston that steep except for one side of the bridge.  The worst part?  We had to do 2 laps for the bike course so it wasn't a one and done situation..... #nomegusta.

The best/worst part of the bike was all the compliments on my awesome helmet.  I really appreciated the compliments, but as a lady who had been behind us pointed out after the race, "I bet you were so tired of hearing it!"  I was.  I was trying not to be rude and stay motivated and say thank you to everyone who said something, but as the one person who stands out in the crowd, at least 50 people said something, and when I was trying to push up that devil hill, the last thing I wanted to be was polite.  I was glad the lady said something about it so I didn't feel guilty about feeling frustrated.

It took almost 1.5 miles to get into running after slaying my legs during the bike part.  Then we only had 1/2 a mile left and I was like, that's it?

Running selfies.  I told Teh MD-AR that she looked like she was growling in this photo and I think it's funny, but she's going to want to kill me when she sees this.  Sorry you'll have to wait a few more weeks! ;)

The run was the final event, and we ran into the chute holding hands because we did it together!

We survived the Tri!

We checked out the tents and picked up some snacks and water.  Hell yes to the person who was like, "Let's have blueberry bagels."  I love you.  Same to the person who was giving out little cups of Jelly Bellys.  Me love you long time.  I was sad there wasn't a roller station since that was the highlight of finishing my 10-Miler in April, but eh, whatevs.

After we checked out the tents and decided we weren't going to wait to see the results scroll through, we headed back to the transition area to pack up and head back to the hotel for showers.  Since I'm a rewards member with Holiday Inn, we were able to get late checkout, which was delightful.

Post-race photos were completely necessary!

I participate in virtual races and when they had a BFF run that came with 2 medals, I KNEW I needed to get one for Teh MD-AR and I.  I had meant to give it to her after we finished the race, but I completely failed and forgot until we got back to the hotel, so I gave it to her before I went to shower.

So we got TWO medals for the race, which for this bling motivated girl, was completely awesome.  We totally wore our medals to brunch.  We saw several other women from the race where we went to breakfast (their shirts/body art gave it away).  That's my favorite part of post race meals, seeing others who participated with you.  It's especially fun after a color run!  These women weren't overly friendly, so we didn't chat with them, but that was ok.

Overall, I'd say the race was fun and it's good for someone who wants to try a triathlon.  It's a sprint so it's not the regular distances so you get a feel for each activity.  There were a lot of first-timers there, including us, so that tells you something.  There were also hardcore triathletes there.  There were small girls, they were the most impressive.  Some of them completed the whole race, some of them were just part of a team.  Either way, to see them out there was awesome.

I personally felt like I hadn't really done much after we finished.  Both the swim and run left me wanting more.  I wasn't tired from the tri like I usually am after a solid run, despite the struggle that was the biking portion.  Honestly, driving home was more exhausting than the tri, that is not the case with my other races.  When I run in a race that I've trained for, I want to be challenged!  This didn't feel like a challenge, but I also think Teh MD-AR and I underestimated our skill levels.  We can run 13 miles.  This was like running around the gym track expecting to feel fulfilled (at least for me).

Will I do another triathlon?  Uuuuuggghhh, probably if I was super peer pressured.  I'd prefer to do it as a team.  I'd be willing to swim AND run (for a full or sprint) if I didn't have to bike though.  If I'm completely honest, this medal wasn't worth it.  It wasn't anything better than I get from doing the virtual runs, or maybe I'm just a medal snob after my Divas 1/2 and Tarheel 10-Miler medals (this isn't because I expected a different medal than the one they actually give either)?  Also, I have high expectations for the Navy-AF medal after seeing the Marine Corps 1/2 medal that Teh MD-AD has.  Teh MD-AR and I agreed that it was maybe a once a year thing, but definitely not a regular thing.

Would I recommend the Ramblin Rose Triathlon?  Sure.  Especially if you want to try it out and see what it's all about.  I would say not to go in with high expectations of being a star because there are definitely some badasses out there.  That said, I would also take my time, which is exactly what we did.  I waited 20 minutes for Teh MD-AR during the first transition because I wanted to do it WITH her (heheh that's what she said).

That said, I'm glad it's over.  Monty is too.  When I pulled him out of Yurtle when I got home, his front tire completely detached from the wheel.  So much for possibly continuing to ride the bike...  I'll stick with running and possibly swimming.

Weekend Review {8/17}

Disclaimer: this is just my weekend review, the Ramblin Rose triathlon review will be in a separate post.

 FRIDAY

To make up for no work Wednesday, I stayed until 4 on Friday and it almost killed me.  I'm usually out of work no later than 2 on Fridays, so it was painful and required a trip to Cold Stone for the sorcery that is Cake Batter ice cream + peanut butter + Reese's Cups + chocolate syrup.  Just trust me on that combo.  It's a winner.  I had to force myself to stop eating it (I ordered the big size since I leave it in the freezer at work and nibble/devour it throughout the following days/weeks) because I wasn't working out to tri-prep (which is totally a thing because I said so).

Teh German and I had made plans to go to Texas Roadhouse, where he hadn't been yet.  I was hoping they would give an extreme country example, but they failed with the exception of the hostess who had to have been from Texas with an accent that deep.  I have having a hard time understanding her, so Teh German was relieved when she was talking to me instead of him.

After dinner, we headed to Memorial Waterfront Park in Mount Pleasant since they are doing free movie nights on the blow up screen!  I was super pumped about this.  1- I didn't know there was a park under the bridge.  Given my love of the bridge, this is a super huge deal for me.  2- the movie on Friday night was Up.  Disney = winnnnnn.  Teh German is a Disney fan, so it was perfect.

We got to the park and was able to find parking relatively easy with my life skill of good parking spot turned on (meaning I have this thing where I get pretty good parking most of the time).  Instead of waiting in the park, we went and walked down the boardwalk and found and empty swing.  YAY SWINGGGGSS!  (When I was telling Teh MD Adult Roomie about this, I couldn't figure out the past tense of "swing" so I told her, "We swang on the swangs."  All the lolz were had, in fact, it still makes me giggle.)  Teh German was oh so smooth and put his arm behind me, which was cute.  He's not been making moves very fast, which is a good thing since it makes me want him to.  Reverse psychology works on me....

The movie was supposed to start at sunset and there was a band playing before that.  They were pretty good.

Sunset photos of the bridge? Yesplskthx.

Listening to the band, checking electronic devices, and waiting for the movie to start!

After a wait that felt like forever, the movie finally started.  Remember when I told you that I have no will power?  Yeah, I still don't.  BUT, on the opposite end of that, I'm so stand-offish that people (dudes) often won't get close to me because of it.  Meaning I can send out some pretty strong, don't touch me vibes that are well received.  My, ok you can touch me vibes?  They don't exist.  Fortunately, Teh German and I seem to be on the same page PDA wise, so when I finally gave him the opportunity to do some super cheesy 8th grade hand holding (which my rom-com loving heart swooned over), he took the opportunity.  Gold star for him.

Originally, I was going to drop off Phil and Meri at Teh SC House Finder's house on Friday night, but due to some scheduling conflicts that didn't end up happening.  When we got back to my house, I had to pack.  It was no longer an option and since Teh German was around, it was way easier since I pack better with someone there to talk to.

Packing took me all of 30 minutes, go me!  See what I can do when I have good company and a list?  After packing, it was time to call it a night.

SATURDAY

The dogs woke me up on Saturday, which was perfect since I needed to get up and get them dropped off at Teh SC House Finder's house before I could load Monty (the bicycle) in Yurtle to head to Winston-Salem.  After some AM adorableness, I finally loaded Meri and Phil in the car and everyone left.

It was a quick drop off at Teh SC House Finder's house, then I headed home to load up Monty.  I scratched Yurtle putting Monty in the back and I'm a bit upset about it.  Mostly because I thought to myself, should I put the kick-stand up?  Nah, it will be fine.. and it was NOT fine, Gentle Readers.  Not fine at all.  Not fine to the tune of a scratch that is line about a big as an outline of my hand.  No me gusta.

Once Monty was loaded, it was time to head to Winston-Salem for my first triathlon.  Traffic was ok, it seemed like a lot of families going home from vacation based on the out-of-state tags and all the cargo carriers on the tops/backs of vehicles.  I made a poor life choice and played the "You have this many gallons of gas" game poorly and ended up praying without ceasing to quickly find the place that GasBuddy had said was the closest in High Point.  I made it, thankfully.  I always tell myself not to play that game, but the "you have this many gallons left" screen is just such a challenge to me for some reason, and it's completely stupid, but it happens all the time when I'm on road trips.

Since I was already stopped for gas, I figured I'd also pick up lunch.  I had left early so that way I wouldn't be late meeting Teh MD Adult Roomie, so I had some time to burn.  I checked Yelp and there was a crepe place that I had passed on the way to the gas station that had really good reviews.

Yeah, Penny Path Cafe and Crepe Shop was amazing.  I ordered a savory crepe and was unable to finish it because I knew I needed to save space for a sweet crepe when I saw someone making one of the sweet crepes.

The Kitchen Sink.. mmmmm...

I asked for suggestions on what my sweet crepe should be and the woman said I should try the Inside Out Cheesecake crepe.  The dude informed everyone that he had made the homemade cream filling that day and the woman added that he made the best cream of anyone in the shop.  I was sold.

Making my inside out cheesecake crepe.

Final product.  I had her add nutella.. NOOOOOOMMMMM.

Originally, I hadn't planned on eating it all and bringing some to Teh MD Adult Roomie when I saw her, but it was too delicious and I couldn't stop.  I told her that we should go there on Sunday for crepes, which sadly didn't end up happening, but was ok in the end because I know where I'll be stopping the next time I'm passing High Point.

After eating, I headed to Winston-Salem to meet Teh MD Adult Roomie at Fleet Feet to pick up our race packets.  For those of you who are following the boob-chafing-drama of my recent runs, I finally picked up some Body Glide.  Thanks to everyone for all the suggestions!  After picking up our packets, we headed to the hotel to check in and determine our next moves.

Condom head.
I'm not sure why latex caps are still a thing when silicone caps are soooo much better.

Teh MD Adult Roomie and I had discussed visiting Old Salem since she had never been before and the last time I went was sometime in elementary school.  It was still as quaint as it was back in elementary school.  There weren't many people out, but we did see a lady in a wedding dress and we saw a hispanic girl in her quinceañera dress, both were out taking photos.  It was a gorgeous day.  Not overly hot (unless you were an idiot like me and wore pants).

We stopped in several shops since we didn't want to buy tickets and walked around.  I loaded up on cookies because it was fatty weekend and how often do I go to Old Salem?  Exactly.  Also, if you've never had Moravian cookies, you're missing out.  Deeeeeliccious.

I took some photos as we were walking around the "town" because I couldn't help myself.  It made me wish I had brought my big camera.  Teh MD Adult Roomie observed that Old Salem was very similar to Williamsburg and I agreed.  For my dog-Gentle-Reader-Friends, please help us decide if that dog status is a greyhound or not.  We say yes, but we're totally biased.

After walking around, we were hungry for dinner, so I checked Yelp and we hit up El Rancho Taqueria that was loaded with hispanic people, which signified to me that the food was probably more authentic than say.. Taco Bell.  Also, it was super cheap and delicious.  The restaurant was located in a shady part of town, but it was totally worth it.  The servers were patient with our questions and made suggestions.  We were there for a while chatting and nibbling and did I mention that it's been forever since Teh MD Adult Roomie and I were together?  Despite pretty consistent texts/emails, it's just reeeeaaaallllyy nice to be face-to-face and get to chat.

Once we finally decided to relinquish our table, we headed to Walmart to pick up some items, then headed back to the hotel for the evening since we were both pretty wiped out from our drives.  We talked each other to sleep and it was glorious.  I miss that sooooo much from when we were roomies.

SUNDAY

We got up a little before 6 to get to the YWCA for the race.  We weren't overly worried about traffic/getting there early since we were only 10 minutes away.  YAY.  We also discovered there were no more than 380 participants, so that really helped the traffic situation NOT be a situation.  We discovered that Monty wasn't going to fit on Teh MD Adult Roomie's bike rack, so we ended up putting her bike in the back of Yurtle with Monty and I drove to the race.  Worse case we would have both had to drive, but I was glad we didn't have to resort to that.  Yay for Yurtle's awesomeness.

I've already got a draft of the race review prepped, so I'm not gonna really discuss it here, but we survived, it wasn't our favorite, and we've decided that we're runners.  Also, I would really like to get back in the pool and do more laps.  I feel unsatisfied from that minimal swim time.

After the race, we headed back to the hotel to get clean.  After we packed up and headed to Sweet Potatoes for our post-race celebration meal.  Another of my better life choices.  It was delicious and the service was amazing.  I actually reviewed every place we ate at on Yelp because they were all so delicious and friendly, which is rare.

Crab cake egg benedict... aka NOOOOMMMMMMM

After brunch, we sadly parted ways with a reminder that in a month we'll be back together for a bit.  The drive from NC to SC is always difficult.  SC drivers are INFURIATING.  There were several times we were going at least 10 mph under the speed limit, for no reason whatsoever.  Then there were the assholes who would pass in the right lane, giving the person in front of me with their right signal on no opportunity to get over.  Lesson of the drive: the right lane is for passing in SC and going close to the speed limit is not encouraged.  Arrrrrrgggghhhh.  I seriously loved driving before I got to SC and now I hate it.  Thank you, SC.

When I got home, I unpacked and waited on word from Teh SC House Finder so I could go fetch Meri and Phil.  While I was waiting, I got some reading accomplished.  After picking up the pups, I went to bed.  Both Teh German and Ginger Beard had said something about doing something Sunday evening after I got home, but Teh German ended up being out with friends later than anticipated and I told Ginger Beard I just wanted to relax at home, so it worked out that relaxing was exactly what I got to do.  Teh SC House Finder also invited me over for dinner, but I explained that while socializing was tempting, being lazy was really a higher priority.  I'm super glad she understood my laziness.  I do miss hanging out with her and her family though, so I was pretty sad I didn't go, but glad at the same time because me+my couch was perrrrrfect.

Added the 2 on the end! YAY!

Overall, an excellent weekend.  So excellent that this didn't get posted until Tuesday, but whatevssssss.  Monday night I went to a Riverdogs game with Ginger Beard and not gonna lie, if it had been a first date, there would have been no call back, but at least the Riverdogs won!

Sunday Sweats #7

SUNDAY-9

.96 miles.  Took the dogs on their promised walk AND I washed Yurtle.  Calories = burned.

MONDAY-10

5.06 miles on the bike.  I had wanted to do a bike ride on Sunday, butttt that didn't work out.  At least I got in one ride before the Tri!

TUESDAY-11

Laziness mostly fueled by the end of the day meeting where we were furloughed on Wednesday, but we were allowed to make the hours up later in the month.  I should have ran since I was stressed, but I napped on the couch instead.  #sorrynotsorry  #okImsorry

It's been so "nice" this week that I had to take a break at work to enjoy being outside for a bit.
By "nice" I mean, reasonable Southern temps and low humidity during daylight hours.

WEDNESDAY-12

1.05 mile dog walk AND we finally got to meet the "greyhound" neighbors (who don't currently have a greyhound, but told me that Phil and Meri could poop in their yard anytime they wanted and I didn't have to pick it up, I love dog people).
I followed up the walk with:
4.26 miles (10:45m/m).  Honestly, it was hot and it was noon and I was miserable from walking the dogs, but I got a suntan anddd a super sexy watch line!!
The calendar said 5 miles and combined, that's what I got.  I didn't really WANT to, but the idea of melted butter with dinner motivated me.

THURSDAY-13

5.42 miles (10:26m/m).  Ran the ENTIRE Bridge* and back with Teh German.  Honestly, if he hadn't been there, my pace would have been much slower.  I did walk some since I didn't want to push too hard before the tri this weekend.  But omggggg killl mmmmmeeeee.  We parked on the downtown side and ran to the Mount Pleasant side and back, this was good and bad.  Good because the slight incline was the beginning, but bad because the hard uphill part was after the turn around point.  The run was literally uphill both ways ANDDD we had a solid breeze going against us when we started and that same breeze wasn't pushing me back down on the return.  No me gusta.  I survived and I walked a lot less than I anticipated.  I told Teh German we could do it again.  Also, people that walk/run the Bridge are assholes who refused to move over to faster traffic.

To the old lady that stared my boobs down something serious,
Take a picture, it lasts longer!

Got more underboob chafing because I haven't bought any Body Glide/Gold Bond stuff like all my homies suggested last weekend (I haven't had the chance/couldn't find it yet).  Not gonna lie, I took a photo and almost considered sharing it here, but I just couldn't commit to my underboobies being on the internet.  Just imagine angry red marks on the bottoms of someone's boobs and around their rib cage.  No me gusta.

*Bridge references the Author Ravenel Bridge, which is the bridge Teh MD Adult Roomie and I ran in March when she came to visit.  Also, one of the top 10 10k's in the US.

FRIDAY-14

Almost did yoga in the AM, but then went back to bed and laid there wishing I could sleep for 45 minutes instead.  It was so nice out I wanted to do something, but opted for resting instead and called it preparing for my Tri.

SATURDAY-15

Nothin'.  Drove to NC and got to spend some GLORIOUS time with Teh MD Adult Roomie.  We'll be running our Tri today, so wish us luck!!!

Also, someone please send me some magical money so I can sign up for a DisneyLand run and get my Coast-to-Coast medal so my running life's ambitions will be satisfied?  Plskthx.  The Tinker Bell 1/2 is still open or I could do the Dumbo Double Dare.. cause ya know, glutton for punishment.

Five on Friday #61

UNO

I GET TO SEE TEH MD ADULT ROOMIE TOMORROW!!!!!!!!  WOOOOOOOO!!!!!  We haven't seen each other (other than skype) since March and it feels like sooooo longggggg(uh).  We're doing the Ramblin' Rose Triathlon together in Winston-Salem, so if you're in the area and want to cheer us on, we'll probably need it.

I'm glad that the next time I see Teh MD Adult Roomie it won't be so long as it's been this time.  I'm headed up to MD in September for my Navy-AF 1/2 and the doggies and I will be staying with her and the countdown has been going on since the end of June.  Serious bizness/excitement right there.

DOS

Being in Charleston means being overwhelmed with options for places to eat out.  Even if you exclude chain restaurants, it would take several months of eating out every day to make your way through all the places there are.  Granted, I'll never do that because dollas and fatty Megan, but still.

That said, I'm starting a list on Yelp of all the places that I want to go.  Now if some of these places weren't in the $$$ range and were in the $-$$ range, I'd be wayyyy happier.  Yay for a list of destinations instead of having to search through Yelp looking for a place to go.

I also start to feel bad when I go to the same place over and over and over instead of trying new places because there are so many options here.  If that's not a first world problem, I don't know what is!

TRES

I've made the switch from coffee (with loads of creamer) to tea with honey.  I'm so pleased with my life choices.  Now I just have to figure out which tea is my favorite since there are 8 different kinds in the cafe.

I really, reeeeaaallly dislike the taste of coffee, and creamer and sugar were the only things making it bearable for me.  But tea?  I LURVE me some tea.  I also LURVE me some honey.  This gives me an excuse to use the rest of my MD honey and finally get on to my SC/NC honey.

The only downside is that the "hot" water is heated to boiling, which means that it is SUPER hot (yeah, yeah I know), but coffee isn't boiling, it's just warm, so I can drink it right away and it doesn't have to cold down to "slightly less than scalding all the taste buds off your tongue" before I can drink it.

QUATRO

I feel like I've been doing really good on the not spending money front.  In general.  Every day is still a constant battle to not buy a ticket for a DisneyLand run, but I tell myself that other things are priorities.. like bills and saving up dollas for emergencies (like more than a month or two).  I've done good at not buying little things and staying out of stores, which is nice.  I don't miss my every other weekend grocery trips and store runs on other weekends for various items that we may or may not have actually needed.

I'm learning just how little I actually need to buy and it's quite nice.

CINCO

You are funny, brilliant, and vibrant.
With much adoration, UnsweetTeaMan

Happy Friday, Gentle Readers.
Linking up with these ladies since it's FFFFRRRRRRIIIIIIDDDDAAAAYYYY!!!!!!!!!

Weekend Review {8/10}

FRIDAY

I did NOT want to get out of the bed Friday morning.  So I slept until about 7 and finally forced myself to go to work.  I had to come back home around 11 since the owner was coming and someone from the property management company would be doing an inspection of the issues I submitted.  YAY working from home!

Turns out, all the stuff that was missing from the shed was actually stolen.  I was about 88% confident that the owner of the house was going to actually cry standing in the yard when he realized that it was all gone.  It was over $5000 dollars with of tools alone and then whatever else was in there (I'd assume several thousand more dollars worth of stuff).  I looked inside the shed when I viewed the house and you couldn't walk in the shed was so full.  When I moved in, it was practically empty.  He did say that after the stuff with the police is figured out, then I can use the shed for Mike.  So there's that silver lining.  I do feel really bad for the guy though.

I had planned on riding Monty and that never happened.  Instead I finished working, took a nap, and waited on Ginger Beard to inform me of the evening plans.

#ereaderproblems

Meri snuggles.

Eventually, I was instructed to arrive at his house 5 and then dinner would be after.  The parents were there.  They were nice.  It wasn't overly awkward.  But here's why: his parents are part of the greyhound cult.  When conversation lulled, we had the dogs to discuss and photos to be shared.  Additionally, although slightly awkward, it was GB's parent's 33 anniversary.  They were in town for his sister's graduation.  We ended up going to Taco Boy for dinner which was pretty delicious.  After, Ginger Beard and I walked to DeSano Pizza that was down the block and picked up cannolis for dessert.  Nommmmm.

Maybe not my best "meet the parents" outfit choice.
#allboobsallday

The different cannoli options

I've decided I'm totally going back to this place for pizza.  It smelled AHHHMAZING and Ginger Beard and I discussed that if we hadn't already eaten, we'd be eating pizza.

Traditional cannoli, which I wasn't able to finish because I was so full.
Ginger Beard held it hostage at his house after I accidentally left it there.

Since we were both on dog duty (he had his parents and sister's dogs at his house), we both headed home to take care of the respective hounds then it was bedtime.

SATURDAY

I was able to sleep in on Saturday and it was glorious.  After feeding the dogs I went back to bed and stayed there until 1000, when I had to get up and get ready to meet Teh German for a ride and lunch.  We rode out to Mount Pleasant to Carmen y Juans.  That place never disappoints.  I ordered the carnitas this time and it was totally worth it.  Yes, that means I had mexican 2 meals in a row.  #worthit

After lunch we rode through the forest and Teh German was super pumped about the curvy road that Mr. Scrooge took me to that I said wasn't overly fun the first time, but then it was fun..er the 2nd time.  On the way back into town, we stopped by Mr. Scrooge's house so I could check the mail and take out the garbage.  I have to go back later this week to take the garbage to the curb and check the mail again.  His house is just sooo far away now, ughhh.  I joke with Teh German that Mr. Scrooge's horrible ex-girlfriend had broke up with him and left him with this huge empty house.  Teh German was like, wasn't that you?  I said yes and laughed.

Teh German and I left and headed back to my house for doggy snuggles.  We started watching a Louis CK standup, but it was one from 2006 and it wasn't as funny as his more recent stuff.  Too many rape jokes.  I stopped the movie in the middle since we weren't amused and Teh German left.  Which meant naptime for me!

My new earbuds arrived!
Also, a hell yeah to the amazon app for letting me know my package was delivered.

I woke up a while later and knew I should run.  It didn't happen until around 8:40 when Teh German messaged me and asked me to come hang out with he and his friends.  I said yes, but had to get my run in first.  I had committed to 6-8 miles, which ended up being 9.  I also realized that I had no idea where Teh German was at or who he was with and I assumed that it was a group of dudes at one of their houses and my stranger danger alert went off and I wasn't as committed to going.

When I finally got home, I messaged him and said that I had ended up doing 9 miles instead of the 6-8 and I was wiped out and not gonna make it.  He didn't seem upset by that, which is good because it wouldn't have mattered since it was almost 11 when I got in the shower and nothing good happens after 11 on a Saturday night... so staying home was ok with me.  Also, I got underboob chafing again from my run and I just wanted to be perfectly still.

After my shower, I finished up my Sunday post and headed to bed.

SUNDAY

I slept in again.  I really should have went to bed after my run, but I fail at sleep.  I got up and went to church then went to Target after for a new hair dryer since mine has been acting strange lately.  I walked around the entire store looking for things to buy.  I was carrying around a new monster shower curtain and rug for the guest bathroom since Target had a spent $50 get a $10 off coupon going on, but something about paying $20 for a bathroom rug just wasn't appealing to me and I was having to search for another $10 to spend and wasn't doing very well.  I found a set of sheets, but I don't really need sheets, nor did I need a new monster bathroom set, so I put it all back, went to pick out a hair dryer, checked the clearance end caps and finally picked up a matching set of magnets that Teh MD Adult Roomie has as my impulse buy.  I felt proud of myself for not being tempted by all the things at Target, but at the same time, disappointed.

I messaged Teh Sister and told her to talk me down.

My kind of magnets.

I had strongly considered eating out for lunch, but I hadn't brought my Teh Flamin' Kindle to entertain me while I waited on food and since I was alone, I wasn't as motivated to go out without entertainment.  Also, I couldn't figure out where I wanted to go.  My indecision was crippling so I went home (I didn't even get starbucks at Target) and had an egg sammich for lunch and continued doing the laundry and worked on blog posts for the week.

I got motivated in the afternoon after a bit of reading (started Redeployed which is depressing as hell) and decided to finally take the dogs on their promised walk (with Meri on the gentle leader as punishment for making me get my new shoes muddy (and kinda stinky)).  After their walk, I decided that Yurtle was going to get the bath she's needed for the past 2 months.

Most of the day I'd been waiting on Ginger Beard to text me since he had mentioned going on a bike ride Sunday afternoon, but that text never came.  So when Teh German messaged me and asked me if I wanted to go to dinner, I said I'd research that and get back to him.  I waited another 30 minutes on GB to message me and nothing.  I knew he was working and I didn't want to be obnoxious with my texting.  I finally told Teh German yes, and of course, within 15 minutes, GB texted me that he was leaving work "soon."  I've learned that "soon" actually means within the next 2 hours.  I informed him that I was going out to dinner but I'd message him when I got home.

Teh German and I went to Red's Ice House, the same place I went to with Creepy-Side-Hugger-Dude.  I didn't actually realize that was the place we were going or I would have suggested somewhere else, honestly.  The food isn't really that good, but the people watching made up for it.  OMG, so much people watching.

This classy lady was even wearing a string of pearls AND DG earrings.

But that girl couldn't compete with the 2 cougars who were sitting at the bar in their bathing suits and crochet cover ups talking to a significant portion of the male clientele that walked past them.  #onthehunt

Teh German admitted he hadn't had sushi so I totally know what I'm suggesting for food next time we go out.  Teh German and I became friends on FB, possibly another too soon for me, but ya know, boundary pushing and whatever.  I did also learn that my assumptions about Saturday night were wrong, it wasn't a group of dudes, so that kind of eased my mind for the possibility of being invited out next time with his group of friends.  See, I can be concerned about my safety, even if normally I'm 95% reckless.

When I got back home from dinner, I messaged Ginger Beard and got no response, so no cannoli for me. /sadface.  I did finish up the laundry and spend more time reading.  It was a reading kind of weekend and it was very much enjoyable.  I also started How Should a Person Be? which I'm torn.  Part of me likes part of it, but most of me hates it and wants to be like WTF why is she writing such shit?  How did this get published?  Seriously within the first 10 pages there was some random section about blowjobs being an "art" and I almost just stopped there, but this is a book challenge book.  I can do it.  I really only started this because I needed something LESS depressing while I read Redeployment and the Short Stories from the South book is just weird and I know the GTMO book is going to piss me off.  #readerproblems

Overall, an excellent weekend.  Next weekend is the Tri!!!  I'm pretty sure my death is imminent, but first I'll get to hang out with Teh MD Adult Roomie, which makes it worth it.  I think I've also figured out my bra dilemma.  I'll just wear my suit during the swim, then put the bra on over my suit when I finish the swim and then do the trick where you take the swim suit top off and then put it back on OVER the bra.  Women will totally understand what I'm talking about here, sorry Dude Gentle Readers.  Also, probably should have thought of this before now.. but is there a way to switch activities in the middle of an activity on RunKeeper or should I just track the bike ride, then switch to a run during the transition?  Really, it's not that big of a deal, but OCD Megan likes to know these things in advance.
