Five on Friday #212

EINS - Random Shit

After last week being the week that would never end, this week kinda flew by and I'm not sad.  I'm ready for September to be over already.  For no real reason other than, that's a month through school and I'm ready for consistent cool weather.

Things I did this week:
-Went to my first VA appointment.
-Cancelled my ENT appointment.
-Rescheduled the exterminator visit so someone can be home since I want them to do the inside of the house and I want them to do a better job in general (i.e., remove the spider webs like they are supposed to).
-Scheduled a laser hair removal appointment.  My BJB is back and I have the sads.
-Applied for graduation 🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌
-Had an ice cream date with Teh PT Wife at Sweet Frog because No Weigh Wednesday is a priority.
-Worked out consistently.
-Enjoyed outside.

In a freak incident, my steering wheel ate my brand new lint ball on Thursday and it was kinda par for the course of the day.  I'm still not even sure how it happened, but it did and I was super upset about it.  Granted, I ended up finding TWO lint balls later when I was doing laundry, but it doesn't replace a brand new lint ball that I just started.

I know, I know, #MeganProblems.

Also, I have had discussions with others that maybe my lint ball rolling feeds into a sensory issue/disorder.  IDK.  I'm sure if I look it up on WebMD, I'll die in 3-6 months because I've been rolling lint balls since birth.

I lost my shit on the cadets this morning.  It was accidentally on purpose..
What had happened was....

I've been fielding a LOT of (imo) stupid questions this week (although one professor says, "There are no stupid questions, only stupid people." ...and he might be on to something there), and by Thursday afternoon, it warranted a FB status update with sections of all caps.  By Friday morning... I lost it.

See, I have an issue with people who don't pay attention.  If the instructor said something in class like, "We have a quiz on this material during our next class meeting," or "Here is the code for this entire homework section."  THAT is information that everyone in the class should know.  Yes, I can understand asking another student for information if you were taking notes and missed something, but if you were sleeping and you missed the announcement or you chose not to copy down what was on the board because you had to leave?  GET THE FUCK OUT OF MY FACE.

No less than 3 students came in my first class on Friday and asked if we had a quiz (we did) that morning.  We always have a quiz, almost every.single.day in classes taught by that professor.  Then, those same "I can't pay attention in class" morons would follow that up with, "Oh and do we have make up class on Saturday?"  Not only did I lose my shit, but I also wrote it on the board because I was tired of answering the same shit that the instructor had answered multiple times earlier in the week.

Honestly, I think my professor wasn't sad at my outburst about their lack of attention to detail/unpreparedness.  I'm sure he probably feels that way each semester.  As a solution, I wrote that there was no class on Saturday and that there was a quiz that day and what it was on.  I did this for the 2 subsequent classes as well.  Anal professor thanked me for my note during our 2nd class together.  At least I know someone appreciated my efforts.

This was actually the 2nd time I lost my shit at school this week.  The first time was on an individual cadet who never pays attention to anything except his laptop during class and then insists on asking questions after class that were answered during class and obviously that pisses me off.  Anyways, I have a very anal professor for 3 of my 5 classes and he doesn't like/allow when students leave in the middle of his lectures.  Truthfully, it distracts him and he doesn't handle that well.  Then, the rest of us get distracted when professor starts lecturing us about how disrespectful it is to get up and walk out of class while there is a lecture going on and how distracting it is for students because everyone watches that person walk out and THAT FUCKING PERSON never has to hear any of that since they are out of the classroom.

So in a later class, when that SAME FUCKING CADET got up to leave the anal professor's class in the middle of the lecture, AGAIN... I didn't say anything at first because I thought the professor would just continue on... THEN, the professor paused and before he could get any words out, I said loud enough for everyone and the professor (who is hard of hearing) to clearly hear, "If YOU get me lectured AGAIN about leaving during the middle of class, I'll make sure you get the same lecture after class."

Cadet looked at me like, oh shit, then looked at the professor and said, "It's an emergency," and the professor just nodded at him.  Thankfully, there was no repeat "disrespectful/disruptive" side-lecture, but if there had been, I was going to tear that kid up after class.

I'm over these fucktards not being prepared for class and not having a writing utensil or knowing when shit is due.  If I can manage my real life and college at the same time, they can manage college.  It's not that hard if you put in a minimal amount of effort.

I really liked the VA doc that I saw.  I explained that an expensive, useless ENT visit was what prompted me to finally come to the VA for treatment options since my issues are covered by the VA anyways, so why not take advantage of the resource?

Doc gave me scripts for my GERD, several, in fact, so we can test out what works/doesn't and go from there.  A refill for my anxiety medication, and I'm also supposed to have labs done for general health purposes.

In fact, I went to the clinic during Thursday morning walk-in hours and they were closed.  I was really fucking annoyed and it shadowed the rest of my day.

Sometimes, I accidentally stalk my husband.  #SorryNotSorry

Thurs morning, I accidentally took the "go to school" route instead of the "to go work" route and I passed Teh German, even though I left more than 5 minutes after he did.  See also: Why I do not stay in the right most lane on 26...

I had to go to Walmart to pick up a forgotten dinner item and saw Teh German's truck at the gym on my way home.

2 weeks ago, we went to Merrell so I could try out a pair of rainbow shoes I'd seen online and they didn't have them in store and they were sold out online... Ugh.  So I added myself to the "notify me when these come back in stock" email list and I bought the shoes within 10 minutes of receiving the email.  I wasn't preparing to like them, but I really do.  Thus ends the school shoe shopping saga.

The Brooks with the 90s tongue will be returned to Dick's this weekend.

The high in Charleston has been less than 85°F for the end of the week.  I know that is still hot for most everyone else, but here in the South, in September, we call this Fake Fall, but it gives us hope for when fall does eventually come in late October.

That said, I couldn't NOT take advantage of this GLORIOUS temps.

The Runkeeper selfie doesn't show the temperature, but it was 60°F during my run!!!!  CRAZY LOW.  I'm actually wearing a long sleeve shirt because I knew I'd get chilly and I wasn't wrong.  Also, DAT PACE!!!  All that elliptical time is paying off!  It's been a LONG time since I've ran a sub-10 minute pace.

I'll attribute some of that to the coolness, but not all of it.  The first mile was actually 9:38, but I also didn't walk at all, so that helped keep it down.

That said, I'm trying to debate if I'm going to the gym after I leave work.  #DecisionsAreHard

I talked Teh German into doing a Pack Up and Go trip for our anniversary.  Friends told us about this after their awesome experience.  When I first brought it up to Teh German as an idea, we looked up some reviews and he said he wasn't sure because he read some stuff that said you spend a portion of the budget on paying the company to plan your trip, when you could just plan it yourself and save that money.

And, Gentle Readers, I didn't even laugh in his face when he said, "We could just save that money and we could plan the trip ourselves."  Because any WE involved in trip planning ALWAYS means flipping that W upside down and it becoming a ME planning said trip.

There are multiple reasons for this, one of the biggest factors being my control freakness and Teh German's ostrich tendencies.  I did, kindly, say, "We both know that 'WE' would not be planning whatever trip we take, it would be ME, and I have enough going on.  Also, that's part of the appeal, the surprise about where they send you."

I did look at the direct flight options from Charleston and the cities I would be interested are: Boston, Nashville, Philly.  Nashville is the only place that neither of us have been.  I made sure to put that we LOVE the cold to the comments sections, so hopefully they won't send us to Florida or something.  I did forget to mention that we'd already been to Atlanta, so hopefully they don't send us there or if they do, they come up with interesting things.

Our anniversary (11/1) is actually on a Friday this year, so the first day of our trip will be our actual anniversary, so that is exciting.  I will not be going to class.  /shrug.

-Bread for Teh PT Kid's band sale.
-Thanksgiving 5k.
-Groceries
-Gas
-Chickfila for lunch.
-New yard shoes that look like crocks with claws.  I'm actually super excited about these, but in a low-key way, because how uncool am I?  They were only $13 for 2 pairs and now I can get rid of my sun-warped Crocs that I've been using.
-Spotify
-New Merrell shoes, that I will be keeping.
-Pack Up and Go trip.
-Audible x2, which I think is because I switched to an every other month credit plan.  I have 6 credits to use currently and I have no idea what to use them on.  I have more than 3 audiobooks on deck to listen to, but a library hold came in, so now my deck is on pause.  #FirstWorldProblems
-Bojangles for breakfast x2.  Splurge morning and then the morning that I didn't get labs done.  Ugh.
-New coffee pods and creamer to try.
-Sweet Frog date
-New belt for Teh German, since he insists that his work belt is "fine" even though the leather is splitting and the belt looks ghetto AF.

The answer is no.

LOOOOOOOOOOOOL
I admitted to Teh German that I stopped worrying about my quizzes for my anal professor's classes.
This choice has eliminated A LOT of stress in my life...
And this note from my professor gave me the LOLZ.

Sitting outside at work is mandatory when it's only 80°F outside.
Less mandatory: the fucking mosquito bites on my tattoos... Grr.

FÜNF - Things that made me happy this week

  1. "COLD"
  2. Completing homework assignments the day they are assigned.
  3. Lists of tasks.
  4. Prescriptions being mailed to me so I don't have to worry about going to the pharmacy.
  5. A Boberry biscuit for Friday lunch dessert, after I didn't eat it on Thursday.
  6. Walks with the beasts.
  7. Short trains... I mean if I'm going to get caught by them incessantly, I can at least be grateful when they are short.
  8. Anniversary plans.
  9. RUNNING.  I can tell you the number of times I've run since the Bridge Run and it's not an impressive number (today, Hot Pursuit 5k in June, Duisburg City Race in May).  But it was just too hot and it wasn't worth it.
  10. Almost being finished with the Marvel movies.  Next up is The Ranch, Big Mouth, more Americans, and Vikings whenever that comes back.

Five on Friday #173

EINS - Random Shit

Let's start this bitch off with an announcement that will come as a shock to MANY of you.  I got 4 hours of sleep last night because my body hates me and anytime something travel related happens in my life, my body refuses to do things it NEEDS to do (i.e. sleep).  But that is not the announcement. This is the announcement: I chose to leave my house this morning without a lint ball in my pocket.  😱😱

Teh German and I rode together to work this morning since he is dropping me off at the airport later, and I mentioned my deficiency before I pulled out of the garage and he said, "Are you sure today is the day to not have a lint ball?  We're still home, you can go get one."

^^That's why I married him, right there.  He gets me.  He also doesn't make fun of the fact that I use a lint ball as a comfort object because I am a lady-child and that's how I deal with my anxiety.  He knows that today will be a struggle, probably, and being lint-ball-less is probably not my best life choice.

But fret not, Gentle Readers.. I have 2 lint balls stashed away.  1 in my wallet and 1 in my backpack.  This girl ain't no fool.

-As the week before a week off of school AND a planned day of missed class (today), this week went crazy smooth.  I'm at that point that I am worried about my assignments, but I'm not going to lose my mind stressing over that shit.  I'm not going to get overly frustrated at things I do not understand.  If you're a regular Gentle Reader, you'll recognize this zen in my pendulum of life.  I will inevitably lose my shit over simple things in a few weeks/months, but I always enjoy this zen.

-I found a new poet/motivational meme-r that I've fallen in love with, Morgan Harper Nichols.  Expect to see a LOT of her work around here in the future.

-One of my coworkers has been helping me with my computer science class.  He does a lot of coding, so it wasn't difficult for him to refresh his assembly language skills.  Pretty sure he's going to be the difference between me passing (C or lower) or me doing pretty good (A/B).

-On Wednesday, I was going to arrange to go in early to take a quiz for my computer science class on Friday, but after the instructor announced no quiz on Friday or the Monday we return from Thanksgiving break, I was free like a bird.  I had already arranged to do my German essay on Wednesday so missing German class on Friday was already planned.  Sooo, Thursday was my Friday, so today?  This is me:

-It has been grey, rainy, and under 65°F for most of the week.  This is me:

-I bought a ream of engineering paper at the start of the semester.  Have I EVER used it?  YES.  To sit my computer on to make it higher.  Have I written on a single sheet of that overpriced green paper?  NO.  I'm only keeping it around since I have a follow-on class in the spring.  Maybe I'll use it then?  HAHAHHA.

-I started an audiobook and gave it a DNF after 2.5 hours because I hated the narrator's voice so much and because the story was annoying me and the characters were annoying me and all that annoyance was making me grouchy and that's just not acceptable.  Then, I started reading the sequel to Firefly Lane since it had come through from the library and I wasn't really enjoying it, but I hadn't listened to more than hour, so I was going to give it a chance.  When I went to my phone later to continue listening, the audiobook had been returned to the library and that helped me decide that now was not the time for that book.

For my travels, I have 2 Ilona Andrews ebooks (one of which won't take long since it's a novella) + all the Kindle First novels I've gotten through Amazon that I've never read...  On audio, I have The Tattooist of Auschwitz and A Court of Thorns and Roses.

-I've sometimes started wearing mascara to make it look like I attempted to give a fuck.  The problem is that I rub my eyes all the time and my lashes are pretty long, so the mascara gets everywhere... sooooo my solution is to ensure that the mascara dries so it doesn't get everywhere...

blow drying my eyelashes.
This is a thing now.
You're welcome.
If it was a thing before now, why did no one tell me?

-Yesterday, I kept having this feeling that I had unaccomplished tasks to handle, homework, work, something.  I couldn't figure it out.  That's what happens when you accomplish everything early so you don't have to worry about it during vacation.  It's so uncomfortable....

THENNNN, in the afternoon, my computer science instructor emailed me to tell me that the assignment I had turned in earlier that day was incorrect because I used code that we weren't supposed to use.. even though NOT using those code instructions was NOT mentioned in the instructions.  Now I have to do homework over the break and that makes me stabby.

-GUESS WHAT TODAY IS?!?!?!
The start of my runcation with Teh Running Bestie and Matilda!!!!  YYYAAYY!!!

Teh Running Bestie made certain that we were flying into the same airport this time.  Actually, we both have connections in Atlanta and we'll be flying together from ATL.  #WIN.  This time, we're headed to Tulsa, OK for the Route 66 5k on Saturday and the Half Marathon on Sunday.

-There was a crisis last night and this morning regarding flights.  Last night was dealing with Teh Running Bestie and I being on the standby list to fly from ATL to TUL, which was handled (we're not actually on standby, but we bought the cheap tickets which means our seats aren't assigned until we get to ATL).  This morning, Matilda wasn't able to fly out because of the weather, so she missed her connection.  What this really means is that we could all be in ATL at the same time today before we get to Tulsa and if you feel tremors, don't worry.  It's just the sonic boom from greatness all being in the same place.  NBD.

-During the Charleston Half Marathon in January, I ran with an older dude who was from Tulsa, who suggested trying bbq bologna if I was ever there.  In January, I wasn't planning on being in Tulsa...ever.. Yet, I'll be there tonight.  Just goes to show... Life is like a box of chocolates.  You never know what you're gonna get.

-Goals for Thanksgiving Break:
  • watch (prob not in this order):
    • Sweet Home Alabama
    • Catch & Release
    • City of Angels
  • do a puzzle?
  • read some/a books
  • NO SCHOOL!!!
  • maybe get a post run massage?

ZWEI - Money Shit

-power bill, ugh.
-self-lunch-date on Saturday
-2 children's sized bun beanies from Amazon
-new belt
-new watchband for the Garmin that Teh Running Bestie is letting me test out
-Thursday sweet tea
-$1 measuring cups for the office so I didn't have to do any Calc2-esque math using a measuring spoon or other random ounce sized bowl.
-Bojangles gravy biscuit, yolo bitches.

DREI - From My Phone Shit

Facebook went down on Monday.
The news didn't even report it (that I saw).

I definitely KNOW who the guilty party was that did this..
But Teh German came upstairs later and yelled at the NOT guilty party and I had to correct him...

Packing for a runcation woes...

Just call me Rainbow Brite.
I'm going to be so color mismatched.
This has led me to believe that I need to invest in some race outfits for cold weather.

Speaking of cold weather, I bought a bun beanie.
It was waaaayyy to large for Queen Tiny Head (that'd be me, kthx).
I got on Amazon and ordered a children's size bun beanie.
Please keep your fingers crossed for Queen Tiny Head.

Apple and stuffing stuffed pork chops.
The original recipe called for canned apple pie mix... Uhhhh NO.
I wouldn't call myself the Queen of Healthy Choices, but nothing about canned apple pie mix seems remotely healthy.
Instead, I chopped up some apples, added some seasoning, sauteed, then stuffed chops.

Why can't you bring a turkey to church?
They use fowl language.
I guess some would say this also applies to me.

When do you serve tofuturkey?
Pranksgiving

Office Thanksgiving.
#YOLO
Sooo much delicious food.
I couldn't even eat dinner.
I mean, I saved room for dessert, but when I got home Thurs night, I didn't bother with dinner.

When you don't trust airlines with your checked luggage so you pull out the absolute bare essentials you cannot purchase replacements for under dire circumstances (i.e. a sports bra and running shoes).

VIER - From the Internet Shit

A friend shared this article with me about how to pluralize last name and my mind was blown.  There are things they don't tell you before you get married.... like how to pluralize your new last name that ends with an 's' and you've never experienced that before.

Here, I'll just tell you.  If your last name ENDS with an 's', add 'es' after the 's'.
If your last name does not end with an 's', add an 's' after the last letter and you're done.
NO APOSTROPHES, LEUTE (people)!

My Results:
Savage Garden - I Knew I Loved You was #1 in early Feb 2000..But, I looked up the top songs for the year (2000), which yielded much better results...
Britney Spears - Oops... I Did It Again
NSYNC - Bye Bye Bye, It's Gonna Be Me
Bon Jovi - It's My Life
3 Doors Down - Kryptonite
Eminem - The Real Slim Shady
U2 - Beautiful Day

....
there were other song, but these stuck out the most for me.

What people would say probably MOST describes me, based on title alone:
Nelly - Country Grammar

And my personal anthem, lol:
Darude - Sandstorm

^^ if you do not know this song, I need you to go flog yourself while listening to it on YouTube on repeat.

FÜNF - Things that made me happy this week

  1. Taking care of my Friday problems on Wednesday.
  2. Recoding my assignment to be "correct" with no issues.
  3. Work Thanksgiving.
  4. Teh German and I riding to work together this morning.  Awwww.
  5. Morgan Harper Nichols poems.
  6. Cold weather.  Lawd, I love a hoodie, but specifically, I love kangaroo pockets for optimal lint ball storage and my cold fingers!
  7. The Garmin watch Teh Running Bestie is letting me test out.  Even if this fucking thing doesn't count my flights of stairs.
  8. Rain and cold.  I know, I'm weird.
  9. Books.  All the books.
  10. RUNCATIONS!!!!

Five on Friday #157

EINS - Random Shit

-I'm just going to be real.  This has been a shit week.  In terms of school, a week = a month and well... I'm pretty much failing BOTH of my classes right now and all I want to do is pass, but I'm not holding out hope.  I've NEVER done this badly EVER in school, so every moment is anxiety ridden.  I'm back on my 2.5mg of lexapro because otherwise, I wouldn't be able to function.  Last weekend was the kicker when I was awake until 04 and 03 because of insomnia caused my outstanding homework problems.  On the anxiety meds, I sleep hard, sleep through the night, AND I actually fall asleep when I go to bed, vs hours later.  I also can handle all the shit I'm going through.. which I won't lie.. has been EXTREME (and inconvenient) this month.

-I bought the car.    I was reassured at work that my job is safe as long as I don't royally fuck things up, despite the difficulties of last week.

Her name is Willow.  Because apparently Subaru Outbacks are a hippy-lesbian (both of which I've been accused of, one of which is true) car and Willow is a perfect hippy name, and also because DISNEY.  Her full name is Grandmother Willow (yes, from Pocahontas).

-Speaking of my work drama.  I'm not sure if my former PM is genuine or not when he apologizes for what went down or not.  I hate playing professional "games" and this guy is a master at them.  Also, he's slippery enough that I can't pin-point if he's just acting or not, which makes me distrust him more.  It's complicated and I hate even having to worry with it.

Also, I hate that the team wasn't notified that I was off their project.  This means a lot of awkwardness (which is my specialty, but I try to contain that when at work) and me having to speak around the issue.. which meant that this morning I told someone, "No, I am not involved with that," instead of saying, "I guess it's not been reported that I've been fired from your project?"  See, look at me being professional and shit.  It can happen.

-Teh German has been a real saint with me this week/month.  He can tell that I'm stressed and he lets me rant and have mini-meltdowns and huff and puff (aka sigh a lot) about my problems.  I'm trying to make time for us, but it's incredibly difficult and I'm constantly shifting priorities in the moment to ensure that no balls drop.  It's exhausting.

-I feel like this gif describes my life perfectly.  Seriously.

-I didn't blog at all this week.  Teh German's post wasn't complete and it didn't even get posted.  That's where I'm at in life.  Priorities have been made and here we are.  I could have spent my time at the airport starting my next homework for CS, but I needed some ME time.  I'm burning myself out.

-The library took 1984 back before I was done with it (I was at 70%) and there's a 3 week waiting period.  FML.  If it wasn't a challenge book, I would have DNF about 25% in.  Buttttt for a challenge, I'll carry on.  /facepalm

In the meantime, I'm working on The Alice Network and Dark Triumph.  I started reading Neil Patrick Harris's autobiography book with Teh German, but I haven't had a chance to read it outloud before bed because my shitshow life this month.

-My first cricut creation was a sticker for my water bottle that said "Steminist".  Like feminist with a STEM (science, technology, engineering, math) theme.  we..  first the s at the end came out so I had "Stemini t."  That was fine.. but when the first t came off and it read "Seminit"... it had to go.  now I just have "emini t".  It's so ridiculous it makes me chuckle.

-When your teacher hates you, you get a lot less partial credit.  In case you have ever wondered.

-Is it socially acceptable to do shots at the airport bar at lunch time?  Asking for a friend.

ZWEI - Money Shit

-I traded in Yurtle for Willow.. so I mean, that's a pretty big money thing..
-Ring Pro doorbell.  It was on sale on Woot.. and then when Prime Day happened, I got $6 refunded since they put it on sale within a week of me purchasing it.  #WIN
-Groceries
-Lunch at Mex 1 on Weds after I didn't have time to make a shake for lunch
-New brushes for Roomy, who works again.  #Praise
-Burger King for 2nd breakfast this morning since idk what time lunch will be.

DREI - From My Phone Shit

Goodbye kisses for my sweet Yurtle

and goodbye hugs, despite her being wet.

I let Teh German drive the day after I brought Willow home.

New doorbell.  It's supah cool.

Sweet Frog on Sunday with Teh PT Wife was a much needed treat.

It looks like a monster.
It made me LOL in the midst of calc 2 hell.

When I do math like this, math like 2+2 is no longer simple.

Computer science class.

I've been trying to take the dogs on walks in the AM when I have time.
Meri is constantly no the hunt for cats and bunnies and critters in general while Pax is like, WHY THE FUCCCKKK are we outside and why are you making me do this?.. DESPITE the fact that he, like Phil, loses his GD mind when I grab the leashes.  These damn dogs.

VIER - From the Internet Shit

FÜNF - Things that made me happy this week

  1. Willow.  Even if change is hard.  Going over bumps no longer makes my tits smack me in the chin.  It's a full win.
  2. Getting ahead on calc homework, or as much as possible.
  3. Acceptance that if I fail my classes, I fail my classes.  I'm trying my hardest and that is all I am going to require of myself.  Perfection is unattainable in this situation.
  4. Free wifi at the airport.
  5. Lint balls.  Keeping me sane all week.
  6. Meri and Pax being extra needy.  They know when I'm struggling and I appreciate that more than I can express to them.
  7. Seeing Teh Running Bestie on her birfday.  Shhhhhh, she'll see this and glare at me for publicly announcing her birthday, but I didn't get restaurant servers to sing to her, so this is my trade off.  :D
  8. My phone's super battery.
  9. A flight delay that enabled me the extra time to get this post created.
  10. Teh German.  His patience with me.  His sympathy with my situation and his understanding that I'm trying my hardest to do something difficult.

Happy Friday, Gentle Readers.
