2016 - April, May, June

APRIL

I started the month by running the Cooper River Bridge Run (10k) and it was my worst run, maybe ever... at least mentally.  We'll save the actual worse run ever for September.

I shared "Things You Learn When You Move to Charleston"

We selected furniture for House.

I bought skinny jeans.

We took an impromptu trip to NC with Mike and Suzi (the motorcycles) where we stayed with Teh WJL and Teh Dad made me cry.

We bought a trailer.

We finally got a closing date of May 3rd.

We met German Girl 1's family and we went on our 2nd Brews Cruise.

Teh Blog turned 5!

I delivered my first Shit Teh German Said post.

I completed my German lessons on Duolingo!

House progress was significant!  Floors and fixtures and cabinets and counters and paint,

MAY

We bought a HOUSE!

So many awesome people helped us move and get settled in.

Hue lights entered our lives and we have never been the same.

I gardened.  It sucked.

Teh German found more mold and I was afraid we were going to have to burn down our brand new house.

I took a Myers-Briggs test for shits and giggles.

Our first house construction project went down.

I almost throat punched our fence contractor.

I told my Gentle Readers about the things I've never done.

JUNE

There was some radio silence while I was in Germany.

I broke that silence to talk about Brock Turner and Rape.  Rereading that post was difficult.  Yet, It is probably the post I am most proud of writing this entire year.

Due to a language barrier, I went into a men's restroom in Germany.

I learned what a toilet brush is actually for (cleaning skid marks).

Got my last perm for a while.  I'm ready for some straight hair again.

We started the process of stalking Baloo (Teh German's new truck).

Teh Dad decided to surprise us and come for our House warming party, AFTER Teh Mom had confirmed she was coming.  Nothing like a little family awkwardness to really get the party going.

Weekend Review {6/27}

FRIDAY

Work was spent trying to remove the computer STD that is plaguing me, dealing with documents that my leads don't want to tell the customer's we can't get to them in time, listening to the tech lead talk to himself about whatever it is he talks to himself about, and learning that a government organization is pretty much "adapting" one of their most commonly used templates to something I created for Company to submit a few months ago (I wasn't sure whether to be proud or annoyed).  I left work at 2 to get my hairs did.  It was time for the curls to return!  I considered doing it before Germany, but didn't want to have to deal with frizzy hair while we were there, so I waited.

Teh German actually got home early, but I didn't make it home until after 6.  I was at the salon from 2:30 until 6 and I was just over it.  I'm glad she did a super good job, but holy moly.  As always, I love the curls and they bring me great joy.

Earlier in the day, Teh German had suggested Willie Jewell's for dinner, so that was our evening plan after I got home.  After getting Teh German motivated (aka getting him to close down Instagram), we headed to Willie Jewell's.  Unfortunately, there was a baseball tournament nearby and the hotels were full of families for the tournament who also happened to be hungry.  Teh German and I discussed that if it would have been our first time, we probably would have never come back.  There was a pretty long line when we walked in the door, our food took 30 minutes, there was no ice in the machine, there was approximately 4 drops of sweet tea, and some of the sauces were out.  Additionally, the girl running the register was new and rang up my order wrong, thus charging us more.  We asked the guy about it who delivered our food (finally) but he doesn't work the register so he really didn't understand what I was saying about being overcharged.  Whatever.

After we finished, we headed home and started the process of mounting the tvs.  We own 1 TV and we had put it downstairs on the legs until we bought a larger TV for the living room.  I suggested that we mount that TV upstairs first, so then we'd have a clean working space to mount the new TV.  Teh German agreed so we got the party started.  Without too much difficulty, the mount got attached to the wall and the TV and sound bar got hooked up and setup.  Teh German was tired after that, so he watched youtube videos over the TV while I did a puzzle on my Kindle.

After a bit, it was bedtime.

SATURDAY

Saturday was sleep in day.  It had been a long time since we'd been able to that at our house, so we took advantage of the situation.  Originally, we were going to go get pizza for lunch, but instead we ended up making a small breakfast and taking care of house things.  We got the living room TV mounted and setup.  I continued the process of cleaning up the office.  I emptied the upstairs closet that Teh German had been hoarding boxes in (boxes for the TV/sound bar/fans and a few boxes to be unpacked).  Teh German also set up the patio chairs.

We had agreed to do dinner at a new Korean BBQ place with some friends, so we headed that way around 6.  The Korean BBQ place that I've been to before was more like a buffet, but this place was you order one thing and they bring it.  We did all share, which was nice.  Someone ordered "octopus balls" which we tried.  They were good, but I was disappointed there wasn't more octopus.

After dinner, we came home and were lazy.  Teh German watched youtube videos on the new TV while I marveled at/worked on editing Germany photos.  Side note: I have mad flower photography skillz.  IMO, of course.

SUNDAY

I had wanted to sleep in Sunday morning, and around 0740, Meri wasn't having that.  She did snuggle between us for a short bit, but Teh German started petting her and she started kicking me and I got pissed and got up to feed them after asking Teh German to do it.

I got a wild hair up my ass and made hummingbird food for the feeder and then piddled around on the internet until Teh German got up.  After a bit, I made the poor/good life choice to go on a run.  I mean, it was only "78°F" outside, so I needed to take advantage.  That 78° felt nice when you were stationary, but after 30 minutes of running/walking (I won't even pretend I ran all that), death was a strong preference to finishing out the 6 miles.

I did find a super cool secret that our main road has been connected to another development which could mean a serious short cut for me to work.  Technically, the short cut is closed and has an "authorized access only" sign, butttttttt the gate was open and I'm a rebel so I decided there was no harm in running that way on a Sunday morning.  I did noticed that there is the beginning of a housing development, so I'm hoping that my vehicle won't be noticed if I sneak the back way.

The "only halfway" face.

I seriously wanted to die.  I was hot and I wasn't properly hydrated and after sending Teh MD-AR some "I'm so miserable right now and want to die" texts, I almost considered calling Teh German to come pick me up because my head was throbbing so badly.  I was so hot that I even rolled my shirt up, exposing my jiggly belly and my sports bra (/gasp!).  #donotcurr.  If my shirt hadn't been so wet, I probably would have just taken it off and put it around my neck.  #babysteps  When I finally made it home, Teh German asked me how it was and I said, "Not right now."  After I caught my breath and had gulped down 2 Turvis's of water, I told him, "I want to die."

Instead of dying, I went upstairs and showered.  After getting dressed, I rolled because my IT band and I have been seriously arguing lately.  More in things that make me want to die: rolling on my sore pieces.  It actually made my stomach start to churn and I was afraid I was going to be sick.  More in stupid things Megan did on Sunday morning: not eating anything before I ran.  My stomach was 10 levels of torn up, my head was still throbbing, seriously though, death was preferable.  I considered laying down for a nap, but knew that food needed to be a priority.

After some discussion, Teh German and I decided to try a new wing place we hadn't been to and then after go to the Toyota dealership so he could discuss his options with them about getting a new truck.  While Teh German showered and got ready, I continued working on the office, mostly relocating boxes that aren't going to get unpacked (aka putting boxes in storage) and putting things away in new homes.  I also moved the photo decorations that we have to upstairs so we can eventually get them hung up.  I don't think that Teh German wants the stuff that I had up at Shitty House downstairs, so it's all going upstairs.  That means that I'll get some new photos printed to put downstairs, in particular, from our trip to Germany.  YAY for reasons to print out some of those Australia/Scotland panoramas!

Once Teh German was ready, we headed out.  I was doing pretty good controlling the hangar until we arrived to the wing place and they had a sign on the door that said "Now closed on Sunday."  I then suggested to do a mexican place on the way to the dealership, which Teh German was fine with.  There was a debacle about Teh German's tire pressure indicator light being on and me not paying $1.50 for air, then we ended up paying $1 and Teh German wasn't pleased where there was no way to tell how much pressure was in each tire AND the indicator didn't go off.  There was some manual reading and by this point, controlling my hangar wasn't possible.  I asked if we could please go eat and figure out the tire thing later.  Really, he just wanted the indicator turned off for if the dealership looked the car over.  #Germanprecision  While we made our way to the mexican place, I read the manual and realized there was a way to get the light off, so I explained it and he took care of it when we arrived at the mexican place.

We had the absolute worst experience at this mexican place.  I won't even say the name.  It was horrendous.  They were obviously short on staff and it was not a good situation.  We also learned that the night before the keg cooler had went out, which explained why Teh German's beer tasted funny and was kinda warm.  Our server actually forgot that he had put our order in.  disaster.  We definitely won't be going back and my review will not be kind.  But I couldn't even care because the chips were on the table finally and I needed my blood sugar level not to be negative.

After we paid, we headed to the dealership to do some research.  Teh German is looking at a new Tacoma, so he discussed what he wanted with the sales guy and got to drive one.  Once we said we were going to go home and discuss it, the salesman went to get the manager.  We sat there debating for another 30-45 minutes and going over options, but in the end, I think he's decided to wait a few months.  Neither of us planned for him to come home with a new truck today, so we weren't disappointed.  I think a part of Teh German is sad he has to wait a little longer, but he knows the information he has been wondering about for over 2 months (payments, lease situation, availability), so I think his mind is a little at ease.

Sorry no pics of the test drive.  #bloggerfail

After 2.5 hours at the dealership, we headed to the grocery store, then home.  Once home, I worked on blogs and photos while Teh German hung towel racks in the upstairs bathrooms (PRAISE JESUS!!! seriously, walking across the bathroom to dry your hands 3-5 times while you're getting ready is the ultimate pain in the ass).  He did notice, at one point, that I had placed some books in the downstairs bathroom, to include a German book of his.  He liked my consideration.

We were simple for dinner and had sandwiches while watching Home on our freshly mounted living room TV.  After, it was time for bed to prep for the week ahead.

_________________________________________________________
Overall, a fantastic weekend.  We were able to accomplish a majority of the house projects that we wanted to get done before the house warming party next weekend.  I will be doing the cleaning over the next week so that way it's still moderately clean when people start arriving.  Teh Mom informed me that she'll be attending the party (yay!) and she'll be arriving late Friday night or Saturday.  Teh FL-Greyhound Neighbors will be arriving on Thursday evening.  My goal is to have everything done before then.

This week also begins the start of my afternoon runs.  I really struggle sitting at home waiting on Teh German to come home.  I could take it as quality Megan time, but I don't.  I like hanging out with Teh German when I'm home.  So I'm going to start running a few times a week on my way home from work.  I'm planning on running near base, which includes some serious hills.  I don't necessarily need to do hill training, but it will make level running much easier.  Hopefully, acclimating to the heat won't be a major problem, but I am planning on breaking the ever classy hydration belt back out, because runs like today cannot happen on the regular if I intend on: 1- staying alive, 2- not hurting myself.

YAY for being almost completely unpacked and being HOME.

Gratuitous cute dog photo.

Confessions {4/20}

-Things I don't care about today: anything related to smoking pot and the date.  #notsorry

-I sat in a meeting on Monday for about 4 hours while 2 techs went over a document I've been working on.  I didn't really do anything the entire time because they were making notes on the print outs and not handing them to me.  I assumed I'd get to make the changes after, but they took the notes with them.  No work for me!  #bummer #jk

-PS.  Monday's post was brought to you by that 4 hour meeting.  #kthx

-I'm struggling to decide if I should reperm my hair within the next week (so it doesn't look super frizzy and will have loosened up by Germany) or just let the curls grow out.  #fakecurlsproblems

-I burnt popcorn at work on Monday and felt semi-bad about.  I was sitting in a conference room since I was in a meeting and couldn't smell it.  #onlyalittlesorry #donotremicrowavepopcorn #lessonlearned

-I went through all my draft posts and finally deleted all those good ideas that will never come to fruition.  #springcleaning

-Yesterday, after heading home from work at 1030 and scarfing down lunch, I spend the remainder of the work day laying in bed, which happens to be the darkest area in the house with a migraine.  I was 100% certain that if I stayed at work for the whole day, I wouldn't have been able to drive myself home.  Also, #BarometerHead is 85% certain it will rain by tonight.

-I don't understand why my Macbook brightness goes from 50% to 0%.  I don't want to have to wear sunglasses to look at my computer.  Get with it, Apple. #migrainewoes #ITBURNSMYEYES

-Things I have fallen out of the habit of doing:
working out (training plan is coming, we must be ready for Dumbo Dare...)
moderating my gluten intake
posting an adorable dog photo on Instagram each day (blame the lack of meetings on this one)
clearing out my Feedly in a reasonable amount of time
going grocery shopping each weekend
doing laundry on a schedule
not eating a dessert with every meal

-I factory reset my phone last Friday morning to see if it helped the battery life.  Turns out, the system upgrade helped the battery life.  #timewasted #WHEREDIDALLMYTEXTSGO #Dorothywastired #goldengirlsclub (PS. I had to go back through some Dec blogs to find the correct hashtag that Erin and I came up with for our gold phones)

-I want to tell you all about House, but I need things to talk about in Friday's post.  I will tell you we're almost at 100% complete.  #delivercontent #bloggerproblems

Weekend Review {9/7}

Confession:  There was no confession post drafted this week because RL, yo.  So instead, you get to read about my weekend, since it's late anyways.  #IdowhatIwawnt #myblogmyrules

WEEKENDDDDDD:

TL;DR: Teh German met my family and we rode motorcycles a lot in the mountains (which explains he absence of any photos) and I got my hairs did.

FRIDAY

I got to work early so I could get in my hours and leave early so I could go home and finish packing for the weekend and hang out with Teh Sister for a little bit before Teh German and I left for Home, Home.  I brought Meri to work with me so she could plan with Finn, which was awesome.  We stopped by the dog park near work before heading home so she could get some real zoomies in.  There was a little dog there that kept trying to hump her and it's owner just kept yelling at him but doing nothing about it.  Uggggh.  That meant I was left to be the asshole, which I was happy to do so I didn't have to endure Meri being humped.  We weren't there for long since it was hot.

After the dog park, I headed home.  Mr. Scrooge's water bill was still in my name and I received the bill due to my change of address.  Soon after I got home, Mr. Scrooge arrived to pick it up.  I also gave him his expensive watch that I found in Yurtle.  He didn't even have a clue it was missing, of course.  It was only slightly awkward.  Since all 5 dogs were inside, it was easier to just stand outside and give him the stuff instead of invite him in.  I think he wanted to pet the dogs, but with 5, it was just easier to not.

Eventually Teh German got off work and arrived at my house.  We quickly loaded everything in Yurtle and then departed to pick up the trailer/bikes at his friend's house.  There was a possibility our bikes would have been loaded on our trailer, if the guys going with us had finished loading their bikes before we arrived, but they weren't.  We were able to get loaded up in about 30 minutes, then we were ready.  We had to wait a bit before one of the other guys was ready.  As long as we weren't the cause for the delay, Teh German and I were ok.

Yes, we are aware that we both smile REALLY big.  lol

We finally got on the road around 5, which kinda sucked since rush hour traffic on a long weekend, but we survived.  Originally, Teh German and I had planned to leave around 5 anyways.  Teh German was driving (yay), which meant I got to do origami for Teh Sister's toss bouquet while Teh German and I answered "get to know you" questions.

There was a minor crisis when we didn't eat dinner until almost 8:30 and the hangar was real.  I handled it pretty well although I did have to tell Teh German to stop "shh"-ing me.  Teh German handled it like a pro and immediately redirected us to Ruby Tuesday across the parking lot after we found out the wait at Lonestar was 30-45 minutes (ya know, because the bus full of Clemson kids that had been unloading when we drove in the parking lot wasn't enough indication that we should find somewhere else).  Honestly, I wouldn't have stopped at a sit-down place, but I was trying to be nice and we were caravan-ing with them so I just kept my mouth shut and waited to be fed.  After food we ended up parting ways anyways, so it was good that we had already eaten when I found that out......  Also, don't tell the person who knows where she's going that we're going to stop for food "right after Columbia" when she knows there's absolutely nothing after Columbia.  #thisishowpeopledie

We made it to Home, Home by 11 and got the trailer into the garage.  We didn't bother unloading the bikes until the AM.  We went in and chatted with Teh Dad for a short bit before I finally decided to end the party and go to bed.

SATURDAY

We got up Sat morning to get ready and unload Mike and Suzi and headed out to get our hairs did. Teh German left and retrieved food for us and brought it back, then he headed out again to do some riding while I was processing.

Teh Dad ended up parking at the salon for a bit to do some paperwork, but like a creeper didn't come inside to see my hair.  He doesn't love me, obviously.  Teh German came back shortly before I finished.  After my hair was dry, we set out for the mountains to get our ride on.  We only had one snafu where Teh German's gear shift lever came detached, which coincided with a 5 minute spurt of rain.  I was totally accepting of both of these things considering we didn't have any more issues for the rest of the day.  We ended up meeting Teh WJL for dinner at Makato's in Boone.

This is helmet hair at it's finest.  It wasn't this bad with straight hair....
#Ididthistomyself

Dinner was delicious.  After we debated heading to the tattoo convention that was going on at Home, Home, but we were tired so we started to head towards Teh Dad's house instead.  I then realized that Teh Mom was also in town, so we swung by Teh Granny's before going back to Teh Dad's to say hi to Teh Mom and Teh Granny.  Teh Mom wasn't there, but I called her and she showed up 15 minutes after we arrived.  After socializing for a bit, we headed to Teh Dad's.  Since Mike's gauge lights are still defunct, it's really not my best life choice to be riding in the dark, but eh.

We got back and showered and socialized with Teh Dad and Teh Stepmom for a short bit before going to bed.

SUNDAY

We had breakfast with Teh Dad and Teh Stepmom Sunday morning before heading out to meet Teh German's friends, who we were planning on riding with for the day.  The only stop I needed to make was to drop off Teh WJL's shirt that I had gotten her since I had shifted our dinner date to Sat from Sun.  It was a good route up the mountains.  We stopped in Linville to drop off the shirt and sadly Teh WJL wasn't at home (which super sucked because I wanted to get to hang out with her more, but was kinda good because I didn't want to hold up the group for my socializing needs (ok I kinda did)).  After dropping off the shirt we headed towards Boone and had originally planned to do lunch in Blowing Rock until everywhere had a 45 minute+ wait.  Despite our amazing parking spot literally right outside the door of the brewery I had picked, we ended up leaving and going to Outback for lunch so we wouldn't have to wait.

After lunch, we ended up going the opposite way that Teh German and I had ridden on Saturday.  I ended up doing most of the leading on Sunday since I knew my way around and his friends were planning on relying on GPS, which really isn't that reliable in the mountains.  Teh German didn't have service for most of the weekend since he's on T-Mobile and I'm all like... Verizon beeches.

The ride from Boone to Wilkesboro to Home, Home was so long that we were all DONE with riding.  We probably rode for at least 2 straight hours and when you're doing the twisties and going a pretty good speed for that long, it's exhausting.  When we finally stopped at a gas station it was all I could do to put the kick stand down before dismounting Mike.  I was that over being on the bike.  DONE.  I was grouchy and sore and just needed to sit on something that was not vibrating and was wider than my pelvis.

By the time we had gotten down the mountain it was already 1730 and the tattoo convention ended at 7, so Teh German and I opted not to go.  It didn't really spoil anything for me, which I had to explain to Teh German because he had thought I was really looking forward to it.  I explained that nothing that awesome ever happens at Home, Home, which was the reason I was looking forward to it.

We went straight back to Teh Dad's house, loaded up the motorcycles on the trailer so we wouldn't have to do it on Monday morning, then showered and ended up laying down and napping for a few hours since Teh Dad and Teh Stepmom weren't off work yet.  We finally were motivated to get up by the need for food, which was quite a difficult decision since we really hadn't napped so much as snuggled and said I love yous for the first time (no one wants to ruin that moment.. but growling bellies were not to be denied).  We also decided that we would run out after dinner and grab a Cookout milkshake which we shared, which was delightful since neither of us felt overly stuffed (Teh German chose peanut butter fudge as our flavor which made me love him extra (see what I did there?) since that's my fave).

We brought back a shake for Teh Dad and Teh Stepmom to share and we watched a little bit of the NASCAR race that Teh Dad had on before finally deciding that it was bedtime.

MONDAY

Wanna see something scary?  Morning head:

After getting up and getting ready, we attached the trailer to Yurtle and set out for breakfast in town with Teh BFF.  Our waitress was a girl I had went to HS with and it's amazing how adulthood rounds out women.  What was once 2 bitchy teenage girls were nice, pleasant women.  After breakfast, Teh German and I headed back to Charleston.  Traffic wasn't overly bad, but since we had the trailer we weren't really in a hurry anyway.  Only once did my inability to tell my left/right get us into a situation and then there was that one time that we missed our exit because we were talking.  I did more origami while Teh German drove and we answered more questions.  We had some pretty good conversations about things that I had been kind of wanting to ask, but didn't really want to ask about (that church thing, family stuff, things in the past, etc).

It doesn't look like that many, but it is.

Once we made it back to Charleston, we dropped Suzi off at Teh German's "closet" where I met his roommate.  Then we dropped off Mike and reassured the dogs we weren't dead and Teh German unloaded the car while I made a grocery list.  We then left and dropped off the trailer at Uhaul and headed to the grocery store and Cycle Gear to return the motorcycle stands that hadn't worked and for Teh German to scope out some new pieces for Suzi.

When we got back, Phil and Meri had had a feast on the fruit that was on the stove, which means that they are officially banished to their crates again, fucking #goatdogs.  After groceries were put away and the dog mess was cleaned up, dinner was had and cleaning/unpacking commenced.  Eventually we made it to bed and caught up on social media but we were so tired that we ended up going to bed early.

I only showed you in progress/crazy hair photos.
Here's what the hair looks like on a good day.

Overall, a most excellent weekend was had by everyone.  Teh German got to meet everyone at Home, Home and we got to ride SOOOOOO much.  The hills and turns were most excellent and we discussed several times how Charleston riding was going to be ruined after the majestic roads that were in the mountains.

Five on Friday #64

UNO

We'll be on our way to Home, Home this evening with Mike and Suzi!!  I guilted Teh Sister into coming to Charleston to watch Phil and Meri by reminding her about how much time I'll be spending with my neph-dawgs while she's away on her honeymoon in Iceland.  #bigsistering #likeaboss

Teh Sister actually came to town 24 hours earlier than anticipated, which meant she got to meet Teh German last night.  She hasn't threatened to run him over with and motorized vehicles, so all is well.

I'm REALLY hoping the rain restrains itself this weekend in western NC.  That will totally be a buzz kill after we've done so much prep work to take the bikes up there to ride.  Nonetheless, it will be a long weekend away without the fur-kids with Teh German, so really if we don't get to ride it will still be a good weekend based on those 3 things.

DOS

I'm soooooo pumped about finally getting a decent haircut!!!  I wish I could use words to describe the excitement and relief I'm experiencing about seeing Paula, my Home, Home hairdresser.  She really is the best and I've had several shitty hair cuts over the past 6 months and no one does it as good as Paula does.

Each morning for the last week I've looked in the mirror and told myself just how badly I need a haircut.  I feel like a shaggy dog.. aka like Meri when all her fur is in her eyes.

TRES

One of my coworkers has been bringing her dog, Finn, into work this week.  I told her that I'd bring Meri so Finn and Meri could play all the day long and wear each other out.  Today is the day!  I've taken over a conference room for the entire day to supervise the doggy daycare.

Me and Finn earlier this week.

Meri came straight in and went to the dog bed and hasn't wandered unless I'm moving and then she's stayed by my side.
I love my fuzzy girl.

Supervising these cutie-patooties was so exciting I completely missed one of my meetings this morning.  No one said anything to me, so they obviously understand I was part of the puppy-invasion of the day.  Have I mentioned lately how much I lurve Company?  Dogs can come to work, no strict dress code, the enabling of alcohol in the workplace, the ability to work from home?  Yesplskthx.

QUATRO

On the internet this week:

-Let me tell you how many fucks I give about Google's new logo...

-I have no idea what is going on in Syria (because I'm a horrible human being) but WORDS MATTER and I've seen a lot of FB posts about migrants/refugee/humans.  #everyonehasasoapbox

-So much new musics this week!  Yesssssssss.  #thanksSpotify

-Greyhound racing is on the decline.  It's actually been in decline for several decades now and I kinda see a problem with it.  Greyhounds are MADE for racing/hunting.  They don't really hunt here in the US because they would run away and never come back, so racing it is.  I believe that as long as the dogs are treated humanely, racing isn't a bad thing.  I also believe that there are people who really love greyhound racing enough that even if greyhound racing tracks die out, there will still be greyhound racers.  The problem with this is that the tracks are regulated.  Individuals won't be and we all know how absolutely horrible humans are.  If you need an example, check out the plight of the galgo in Spain.

-Nothing about a child being covered in PB makes me want to watch the video.

-I can't remember who posted the link to THIS video, but it made me want to explore more and I learned that "The And" is an entire project about human interaction and "what connects us."  All the feels in that first video made me want to cry, or the fact that I cry when other people cry.

CINCO

Sappy things because well I'm completely in full-on-sap/cheese mode.

Happy Friday, Gentle Readers.

Gettin' my hair did...

Last Thursday was a half day at work due to our change of command (YAY!) and Friday was a Pioneer Day and then Monday was Labor day... so 4.5 day weekend?  YES PLEASE!  I also took this as the perfect opportunity to get my hair did.  I'd been considering a drastic change for a while, like I do every few years (the last time was when I got back from Bahrain and I cut all my hair off which definitely confused Teh BFF when she picked me up from the airport)...

This time, I was thinking: CURLZ!

Since it was a long weekend, that made it the perfect time to get a perm, so that way the smell would be gone by the time I went back to work and I wouldn't have to pull my hair up for work so the curls could set.

Of course, I went into this as a blogging adventure, you're welcome, Gentle Readers.  The ladies at the salon thought I was nuts insisting on photos about every step, especially when I was looking my most ridiculous..

On a serious note though, S.MD-ers, Pamela at Haircuts, Inc near Kmart....  She's magical.  I was referred to her by one of the dental hygienists on base (who is also amazing).  I'm extremely leery of going to hair dressers I don't know.. and by that I mean, everyone except for my home, home hairdresser, Paula.  Maybe the P-name should have been a good sign for me?

Onto the photo extravaganza...
Before leaving home.
Not sure why my hair looks so dark..

My old lady hairstyle.. all up in rollers.

Pamela was nice enough to assist with a back photo.

Chemicals added.  MMMMM smells like perm.

I should have had someone taking a photo of my face as they rinsed the wave solution out after 20 minutes.  OUCH!  I forgot that getting a perm hurt.  Not only did the chemical super activate when she was rinsing it and it got hot, but the hair would also curl tighter around the rods when water was applied.. Talk about hair pulling...

After the wave chemical is rinsed, a neutralizer is added and you wait another 5 minutes.  I didn't have my photo to take a photo of that time, but it looked like the photo above, minus the bags.

CURLZ!!!

All the rollers were out (ouch).

The back.

The final product of 2.5 hours of dedication!

and a side view.

Completely happy with my new hair did!!!!!

So despite the smell, I'm 110% satisfied.  Pamela added some product to kinda help reduce the smell and hold the curls before I left, which Teh Bear was grateful for.

PS.  The absolute best part about getting a perm is finally getting to wash your hair after the 48 hour period.. especially when you're a daily washer...
PPS.  I finally figured out how they did the old school orgasmic Herbal Essences commercials.  Don't let a woman wash her hair for a week, then give her this really good smelling shampoo..  Finally let her wash her hair and record it while it happens.  TADA.  Commercial did.
