Weekend Review {3/26}

FRIDAY

No class for Leadership Day meant that I went to work like a normal adult.  I finally have tasking, which is delightful.  I worked on my things and then left at 2 to get my hairs did.

Since she didn't have time for a color when I got it cut a few weeks ago, I scheduled an appointment for Friday.  I showed her my Pinterest board and we agreed on colors after she commented, "You're all over the place."

Well, yes.  Regarding color.  Not about the style of coloring I wanted.  This is important later.

My board almost all ombre styles with a "natural" color at the roots to about halfway down and then the color starts.

Party started.

Final results.

It took me about 24 hours to realize that what I had come home with was NOT exactly what I wanted.  Granted, I like the color, but there is no ombre.  It is just burgundy/red/magenta/whatever you want to call this color.  She put a darker color at the roots, but I think she missed the part where it was supposed to go to about halfway down before the crazy red started.  It's complicated and I'm having a hard time telling myself that I should go back and be like... How did we go from what I showed you on my pinterest board to THIS (i.e. my head)?  I know I should go tell her.. but it's not overly worth it for me to complain about it and it's not that bad (which shouldn't be something I'm saying about a service I paid for (we won't talk about exactly how much it was, mmkay?)).  Additionally, I don't want to pay to have it fixed.  While I really get along well with my hair dresser, I'm about to be in the market for another if this is the trend.

The first thing I told Liz when I sat down was that I didn't like how short she had made the layers in my hair during the cut 2 weeks ago.  But the thing about hair is that once you cut it, you have to let it grow back and there's nothing you can do about it.  Technically, this color is strike 3 since the first color I had her do was completely unnoticeable (EVEN TO HER).  IDK.  This is why I have hair dresser trust issues.  Someone people give me good advice because I don't not like it, but I don't love it and well.. I'm moderately non-confrontational about shit like this because it's just hair and it will grow back, but how does it go from 95% of the pictures on my pinterest board to a full crazy red color?  We are obviously having some miscommunication issues.

A mabillionty hours later, I made it home about 30 seconds after Teh German had arrived home.  Teh German said he liked the color and I couldn't tell if he was being nice or not, but I accepted the compliment (knowing how much I paid helped accept the compliment).  I had seen Teh AF Maintainer (ret.) walking his dogs on my way home and asked if he wanted to go to dinner with us.  He accepted and I told him we'd figure out a place and let him know.

We ended up going to The Workshop, which is like a food court.  We all ended up eating at the mexican place and it was good, except that my food was too spicy for me.. so that was fun.

Did get to see these sexy pants....

Dat velour assssss and dem mules.
/slayyyyyy

I'm just not hipster enough for today's youth.  In fact, it was a big deal on Saturday when I wore jeans out instead of gym pants after threatening Teh German that I was, in fact, planning to wear my gym pants out.  It's complicated.

After we got home from dinner, we came home to a slaying.

Poor Lamp Chop.  She recently underwent surgery and she's already back in the laundry room awaiting Dr. Teh Megan to repair her brains.  We weren't home for long before we headed over to Teh PT House to hang out for a bit.  Husbands smoked cigars while Wives puzzled.

Eventually, we headed home and it was bedtime.

SATURDAY

Saturday I intended on going to The Citadel to watch all the fun celebration things, but ended up staying in bed until 11.  I saw an email from Victoria's Secret (VS) about my bras being $25 and underwear being 10/$35 and I knew what I needed to do.  I also had planned on accomplishing the grocery shopping... like physically going into the store, which was serious.  Teh German needed to go by the dive shop to take a picture for and get his open water card.  I asked if he wanted to come with me to VS and for grocery shopping and he said yes.  And as I was completely ready to go, he was getting in the shower....

My approximate reaction.

I went downstairs to eat to stave off hangar and went back upstairs.  There was no expeditiousness in Teh German's attitude.  Teh German Time had struck.  FML.  Since I knew Teh German needed to eat, I went ahead and jumped in the shower (which I had bypassed since I was trying to get to VS before all the good undies were purchased).  I yelled to Teh German when I got out of the shower that when I got downstairs, he better be ready to leave.

Can we talk about how incredibly frustrating it is when someone who is always rushing you because STUFF AND THINGS DAMMIT.. and then when YOU are trying to get somewhere, they're like "Dooot-de-doooo.. I got all day."  And then.. they have the nerve to say, "What's the rush?!"

UNDERWEAR!  10/$35 IS THE DAMN RUSH.  And you realize how ridiculous that sounds, but you'd have already been there by now if you'd hadn't been nice and invited Husband along to the panty party... /facepalm.

Anyways.. we finally got there and there was a very limited selection of prints in my style (bikini, thanks for asking) and then limit it to my size and well, I ended up with some uglies.  Whatever.  I also picked up a front-closing bra!!  I Snapped about it, because I almost lost my mind when I saw it.  I actually tried it on and everything.  We'll see how it works out.  I bought one because Lawd knows I miss my front clasp bra from my teenage years.  I won't get started on back closures on bras, but I am still baffled about WHY women's clothes aren't designed to be functional in any regard (i.e. back clasps and no fucking pockets).

Some lady had her dog in the store and that was kinda cool.
Super adorable, well behaved, 8 month old Pit.

After VS, we headed to the dive shop for Teh German.  He got his stuff taken care of and discussed his advanced dives with a divemaster because I've been harassing him about it (because I will leave his ass on the shore, #notsorry, if he doesn't have his proper dive quals).

#SunroofHairs #dontcurr

We were headed to the grocery store and I told Teh German that we could go to the store on Sunday since it was supposed to rain.  It was a gorgeous day on Saturday and Teh German had wanted to ride.  He accepted this and we headed home.  He worked on Bob and "synced the carbs" whatever the fuck that means, and then came inside and seemed completely unmotivated.  I asked if he wanted to ride and he was indecisive.

Finally, he said he'd rather be lazy.  So we made dinner and had planned to watch some Vikings.  30 seconds after we had finished eating dinner, Teh SC German texted Teh German asking if we wanted to meet at Red's.  Teh German was being wishy-washy about it, but I finally pushed him over the edge when I told him we could ride the bikes, which would limit his drinking.  He was confused at first and then I explained that if we drove a vehicle, he'd drink a lot of beer and we'd be out super late and he'd feel like garbage the next morning.. and he agreed to go and ride the bikes.

We left about 15 minutes later.  The man can't get out of the house when I'm in a hurry though.  Just imagine an extremely "not impressed" face, because that was my reaction.  Did I say anything?  No.  Because #GoodWife.  We made it to Red's without incident.  Teh SC Teacher and Teh SC German were already there and we waited on 2 others to join us.  Since we had already eaten dinner, I had a dessert (which was disappointing) and a beverage.  Teh German had a beer and some coconut skrimpies (known to normal people as: shrimp).

After everyone was done eating, they wanted to head out to the bar, but we tapped out and headed home.  Since we were on the bikes, we knew we didn't want to do any more drinking and it was also dark out and we wanted to get home before the drunks decided to start driving themselves home.

When we got home, we put on stretchy pants and landed on the couch for some Vikings and, for me, homework.

SUNDAY

Sunday, I took dog duty and got up to feed the dogs.  I briefly considered going on a run and it was raining, so I passed.  Instead, I stayed up and worked on homework.  Teh German eventually came downstairs.  I did have good intentions of going to the store, but it was 11:30 and Teh Builder texted and said she would deliver the guest room dresser since I was concerned it wouldn't fit in the back of Yurtle and I didn't want to put it in the back of the truck while it was raining.  Her ETA was 1pm.  Kinda when I needed to be at the store.

While I waited on her, I burned some time.  I was made an administrator on our neighborhood Facebook page, so I did some housecleaning for the group and then decided to get off the computer.  Teh German had started working on immigration paperwork and I asked if he was busy and he said yes, sooooo I went upstairs and moved the dresser from the Guest Room to First Child Room by myself (#GirlPower) to make room for the incoming dresser.  I also swapped out curtains in First Child Room and put the old First Child Room curtains downstairs in the dining room, which was an adventure because I'm short.  I reminded myself that if I was single, I'd be doing all these things myself anyways, so it was a nice reminder that I can still do all these things all by myself.

I didn't have time to shower by that point, but Teh Builder arrived soon after.  She got to experience Teh German and I at our worst (i.e. working together to carry anything up the stairs + Teh German was already moody because he was doing paperwork which just so happened to be immigration paperwork, which I cannot help with (because it actually makes ZERO sense to me but not because I'm unwilling, and it makes me understand why immigration is so complicated and fucked up)) and she ended up having to help Teh German get the dresser the rest of the way upstairs.

I had been worried the dresser was going to be too long and we'd have to rearrange the furniture, but the size was perfect for the area.  NBD, #LikeABoss.

I want to make some map themed knobs for it, but in the meantime, Teh Builder found some brushed chrome knobs for it.  I lurve it.  The grey is a metallic, distressed color and the blue is also slightly distressed.  When I first came up with this idea, it sounded sketchy to a few people, but everyone loves the way it turned out.  This is a common theme in my life, which makes me happy.

After Teh Builder headed out, I ordered the groceries online because #LazyAF.

After ordering the groceries, Teh German informed me that if I was going to shower, I should go do that... sooooo I went upstairs and showered.

Me to Teh Running Bestie and Teh Sister:
Murder, hair dye, or both?
We'll never know.

and then no one responded for like a millionty years (30 minutes) and I had to explain that they were witnessing genius.

We were car pooling with Teh PT Husband and Wife at 3:30 for Teh Dental Hygienist's surprise birthday dinner at California Dreaming.  I was out of the shower by 3:03.  I watched the minutes tick by and it was after 3:15 when Teh German finally came upstairs and started getting ready.  Teh German Time was reallllllllll this weekend, Gentle Readers.  I was completely ready by 3:23 and I was standing around in the kitchen just waiting on Teh German to come down.

I used the spare time to be ready to walk out the door.  I muzzled Pax and told Alexa to play music for the them.  All Teh German had to do was grab his wallet and put on shoes once he got downstairs.  I purposely was standing around waiting on him, not starting to do anything because I knew if I drug my feet just a little bit, I'd have to hear it.

Teh German had been in a pissy mood all day and he was trying to rush me out the door and I finally said, "Stop, come here."  He was irritated (as expected) and I finally asked, "What is your problem?"  He said he was frustrated from the paperwork.  I then gently reminded him, "Then, I am NOT your problem."  He responded, "I know."  I said, "Taking out your frustration on me is not ok just because he's frustrated at something else."  He acknowledged me and we headed out the door where our PT Taxi was waiting in the driveway.

Teh German was super quiet for the entire evening.  We definitely surprised Teh Dental Hygienist.  It was awesome.  Our service wasn't actually that great, but the food was delicious, as expected.

Teh Neighbor Besties!

When we got home, I agreed to some Vikings while I attempted some Photoshop homework.  Double exposure editing is kicking my ass and I hate it.  I want to do cool things, but it's just not for me.  I'm about to just download some stock images and do exactly like what was in the video instead of trying to do the project with my own photos, since I know that using my own photos isn't going to get me any extra points.

After several episodes, it was finally bedtime.  I got very little homework accomplished.  Of course.

______________________________________________

Overall, a decent weekend.  Teh German was pretty moody, so that put a damper on things, but we had fun socializing, so that was positive.  Sometimes, life has to be just meh so other times can be HELLA AWESOMEEE!

This week includes:
-Another sex ed bio lab.  /wrist
-Teh Advising Sister arrives on Friday and we're gonna do things!  Like go downtown so she can peruse the "merchandise" and have brunch and go to an adult toy party.  Seriously, be jelly.
-Laundry.  The Laundry Fairy had such a good run of staying on top of the laundry and then she just petered out.  Makes since because the Dishes Gnome went on strike this weekend.  The Gnome finally reappeared Sunday evening (Thank God because all the dishes in the sink was almost unbearable for me).  The Laundry Fairy made a fly by last night and sorted the laundry and started a load, but didn't make more of a commitment than that.  She might get that shit done this week.  We'll see.
-Hopefully the cleaning crew came today.  If they didn't, they are probably fired.  I'm over this shit.
-I will finish Year of Yes and hopefully stop spontaneously crying every time Shonda talks about Cristina's last episode.  There was a chapter pretty much dedicated to Cristina and when Shonda repeats Cristina's last lines, there were tears.  YALL, I WAS CRYING AT WORK.  Cristina is everything I want to be but in real life and sans the tequila.  I tear up anytime I hear the version of "Where Does the Good Go?" from that episode.  Judge me.  #DontCurr.

And he dies in the next season.
Convenient.

Happy end of March, Gentle Readers!

Five on Friday #115

EINS

Another no-Wednesday post week.  #notsorry.  Truthfully, I just didn't have enough to "confess".  I think instead of confessions I just need to change my prompt to "It's Ok..."  I give self-guilt myself about a lot of things and I just need to let myself off the hook.  I am my own worst enemy.

For instance...

It's ok..

...that I ripped the sheets with my brace on Monday night.  #shithappens and I can do nothing about it.  It just sucks that those are some of my favorite sheets because they are so soft.  BUTTT, this does give me a reason to finally replace the sheets (as if we really need replacements) since I also may or may not have bleached the pillow cases with some benzoyl peroxide cream after Teh German moved in...

...that I just (re)discovered that my keyboard has function keys to control Spotify.

...that I've planned a Nerd day on Saturday (after we clean the bathrooms and take the dogs for a nail trim) since my new Kindle arrived on Thursday and my new laptop arrives today.

...to wait after new toys arrive to tinker with them since I'll be busy all day today with work/Ortho appt/shooting a wedding.

...to wear jeans to work, especially when wearing dresses means wearing another outfit under my dress so I can wear my brace.. and well, that's just too many layers for Charleston summer.

...to put off work because it's not high priority right now to compose this post.  The formatting is a nightmare that will require some serious dedication and it just seems like too much effort my first week back at work.

...to work half days at the office as I "ease" myself back into being at the office.

...that I didn't get this post done before my doctor's appointment on Friday...  Which leads us tooooooo.....

The Hip Update:
Ortho informed me earlier that I could have been out of my hip brace 2 weeks ago/the 1 month/4 week mark.  I tried to set him on fire with my eyes but failed.  That would have saved me a set of sheets and a lot of shitty sleeps.

Good sides to this:
-No more brace.
-I can actually work on things at PT.
-I'm mostly healed.
-No more driving restrictions.
-No more ripped sheets.
-Better sleeps.
-Less guilt over not wearing my brace.

Bad sides:
-No more external lap band/sweat band, which was certainly helping with the wedding diet.
-What the fuck do I do with a $1000+ hip brace and $(how ever much I paid for) crutches?

From my phone:

That car is same color as Teh Mom's favorite color of nail polish when I was a kid.
The car even turned iridescent in certain light.

The start of the idea for my wedding band design.
Actually this band, but swap the rose and white gold.

We're dog sitting this weekend.
Edie is the fawn, Sweet Tea is a pocket pit (back against the fence) and you know who Meri and Pax are.

Meri stood in that position for a solid 2 minutes until Sweet Tea finally decided to play.

She likes 'em big... and fluffy..

Edie likes to marinade her brain and get smarter.

There is a car wash place beside the PT office and I splurged and bought a month's membership.
This means Yurtle will be getting a bath every time I go to PT.  The initial job they did was worth the month's membership fee!  It's crazy how shiny and pretty she is!

New ID.  Yaaarrrr matey.

VIER

From my brain:

-I still need to buy sudafed.  Having to purchase it from a pharmacy annoys me.

-It bothers me that there is no orientation for The Citadel for veteran day students.  It would be nice to have someone take me around and actually introduce me to the school rather than go to a webpage and download a map and hope for the best.  Also, maybe I've been ruined by NCSU, but when the shit can I finally pay for parking?

-I need to go backpack shopping.  I love my backpack, but the beverage holder on the side is too small and ripped and it makes me sad.  I need to find a backpack with extra padded straps like this one, but at least moderately cute.

-I was honest about why I was returning a Kindle that I ordered on Prime Day.  I accidentally ordered a black one and the order couldn't be cancelled so I had to accept it and just purchase another one.  To get the color that I wanted, yellow, I had to make another order.  Which means now I have to return the black one and I'll be paying $3 to return it since it was my own mistake.  I probably could have lied and said it was wrong, but I'm going for some good karma.

-I have no idea what I'm wearing to the wedding I'm shooting in 2 hours.  I should work on that.

-When you ask someone to dog sit for you, here's a few tips:
1. Do not bring your dogs to the beach to wear them out and let them guzzle down salt water if you know it gives them ass pee.
2. Do not start your dog on a new food the day you drop them off with the dog sitter.  Again, ass pee.
3. Breakdown your dog's daily life for the sitter so they can know what to expect from your dog(s).  When the dogs expect to be fed helps the sitter understand why your dog is acting so weird at a particular time.  What time the dog wakes up tells the sitter when they can expect to need to let the dog out.

You can ask our dog sitter, I leave an obnoxiously detailed note when we leave the dogs.  This is to help my dog sitter help me.  We keep Meri and Pax on a consistent schedule because our life works better when they are on a schedule.  Everyone knows what to expect.  Dogs thrive on consistency.

-I've ran the carpet cleaner 2x in less than 12 hours and it makes for an unpleasant day.

-I will be working normal work days next week and I'm kinda dreading it.  Additionally, we have customers visiting and I'm considering wearing my hip brace so they will stay out of my way.

-I have high hopes my ring won't be super expensive.  We're planning on buying 2 sets of rings.  A real ring and a silicone ring for each of us.

-I really feel like I need a brain dump, but I've noticed I've started to censor here and it makes me sad.

10 things that made me happy this week:
  1. NO MORE MOTHER FUCKING HIP BRACE.
  2. I remembered our anniversary (8/2) last night and I thought of the perfect gift for Teh German.. oh and I already bought it.  #likeaboss
  3. Ridiculous ID pictures.
  4. New technology (my new laptop arrives today at some point and the new Kindle should be here on Monday).
  5. Clean Yurtle.
  6. New stickers
  7. Dog sitting (I should caveat this with the fact that doesn't include the stress that the dogs wouldn't eat, one was afraid of me, and I've already had to use my carpet cleaner 2x in the last 24 hours).
  8. Being back at work and having a routine.
  9. Watching some Grey's Anatomy.
  10. Making appointments to take care of shit that needs to get handled that I've put off and put off...  (dermatologist, Yurtle doc appointment, hair cut, massage, Dan Ryan repairs, dance lesson, etc).

Happy Friday, Gentle Readers.

Five on Friday #114

EINS

Wednesday felt like Monday and I couldn't figure out why I'd already posted a weekend review because Tuesday felt like a Saturday and why am I so easily confused?  I'm blaming all this teleworking and not being really connected to the real world.

In true Megan's 4th of July fashion, I rocked a solid sunburn on Wednesday and Thursday.  Seriously, SPF and I have a date for always.  I know better.

I worked some in the morning so that way we can leave early today to head to NC.  I also researched laptops and finally decided on what to get.  With some encouragement from Teh German, I tried to purchase it, but Teh Sister was ignoring me and I wanted to see if she had any Best Buy rewards that I could use and use her account so she could get whatever rewards from my purchase.  Eventually, she got out of the ocean and answered my texts.  In the end, I just sent her the link for what I wanted and she ordered it for me and I sent her dollas through PayPal.  No more stressing about the laptop situation.  Now I just have to wait on it to ship on July 14th.

After laying by the pool with Teh PT Wife and lots of our neighbors for several hours, we headed over to Roux's house for hanging out and noms.  Mr. Golfer had smoked some bbq and he needed test subjects.  It was fun to hang out with the GLCK ([Street Name] Cool Kids).  Roux even stopped barking after about 10 minutes!

We headed out around 7 to get packed up to head to North Charleston for some fireworks since our city had cancelled ours because their parking lot was flooded.  Boooo.

The fireworks were great.  This is the first year since 2014 that I've seen fireworks.  In 2015, Teh WJL and I were at Riverfront Park for the show when a massive thunderstorm rolled in and they were cancelled.  In 2016, we had our house warming party that weekend and then after spending all day working on the flower beds/outside, we were too tired/sunburnt to actually go anywhere and instead we picked up dinner at stayed home.

Teh PT Wife suggested I put sunscreen on my incisions so they wouldn't scar as badly so I did.  I only used SPF 15.  Here you can see just how much any sunscreen would have made my life better.

I'm a dalmatian!

Despite the holiday being on a Tuesday, it was enjoyable.  I'd do it again.

ZWEI

So what new laptop did I get?  This one, a 15" HP Omen.  HP was the only company that actually gave me options to choose from instead of just giving me 2 options, neither of which were what I really wanted.  I will be adding in another stick of RAM to max it out at 16GB, which isn't the best of the best, but I'm not gaming anymore so I'm not suuuuuper concerned about this.  My broken hinge laptop has 8GB of RAM and I can run Photoshop and Lightroom at the same time, so I feel like 16GB will be fine for my needs.

The next complication will be trying to find Photoshop/Lightroom or just subscribing to the service.  It's too bad that Adobe doesn't give a discount for just Photoshop and Lightroom and that they don't give a discount for paying for a year in full.  #MeganProblems

Also, I can't get my current laptop to factory reset because it's infected with something and it's making me want to violence something.

This is what teleworking looks like.
To think, there will be another computer here in a few weeks....

Teh PT Wife told me to put vinegar on my sunburn to take out the burn.

Suggestion: Wear rubber gloves.

Family snuggles after Teh German got home from work.

This goof.
His feet bang and scratch on the furniture in my office and I don't mind until he's banging on my desk and then I have to tell him to knock it off.  Weirdo.

How to make a German happy.

Seriously, he is so goofy.  He had his mouth open when I first discovered this situation.
PS.  Yes I know he needs his nails done.

  7. Erin's Book Challenge finally started!

Five on Friday #113

EINS

What I've watched this week on Netflix:
-Atlantis: The Lost Empire
-The Jungle Book (live-action)
-Grey's Anatomy, a handful of episodes from Season 12, because leaving the country in 2010 put me perpetually behind with all things entertainment.

I also pulled out some DVDs to watch in the next few weeks (since I'm home all day and I'm about to start school and still be working and my life is going to pretty much go down the drain).  Those DVDs include Mad Men, the last season in 2 parts (grumble), Disney's The Princess and the Frog, and Disney's Beauty and the Beast.  I need to order the live-action Beauty and the Beast, but it's not high on my list after the Amazon haul I did this week to make some shower spray... and my puzzles arrived.  Whatever.

ZWEI

Things for buying:
-a new laptop.  Ugh.  The hinge is broken on my current laptop and I don't really dig the idea of using my work computer for school.  I will wait until the beginning of August when tech shit goes on sale though, but for right now, I'm window shopping.  This is gross because it's going to be a lot of dollars and spending lots of dollas always makes me irritable.

-Disney movies.  Always and forever.

-Collective Soul, Our Lady Peace, and Tonic concert tickets for Saturday.  I'm seriously going to try to peer pressure Timo (and others) into going on Saturday night because the tickets aren't that much and 90s bands and what else do we have to do?  I'm obviously still making up for missing DCFC and Ellie Goulding and some others last year.  #notsorry

-Wedding things.  Actually, I'm trying to actively avoid thinking about wedding things because it stresses me out that I know decisions are coming that I can't make yet.

-Alterations for my wedding dress (that apparently needs a name since it's a "she") that arrived to the shop on Thursday.  I think I'm going to go visit "her" this weekend.

-Eating out (that counts right?).  I'm thinking we need to brunch this weekend, but IDK where yet.  Sitting at home all the day long really makes me feel like I need to go out more.  #teleworkingproblems

-The 1 year Audible membership for $99.  You better believe I used my other Amazon account to get that deal.  #savindollas  I seriously wish Audible had a reference reward or general rewards for all the money I've spent.  Siiiiiiigh.

-Disney Villian stamps.  Shout out to Twin Mom for sharing this very valuable information with me on the FBs.  You better believe I pre-ordered some of those bitches.  In fact, 3 sheets worth.  #notsorry  I would have stocked up on the Pixar stamps if I'd have known they were going away a few years ago.  #LessonLearned #DisneyLife

From the phone:

I informed Teh German, AGAIN, that we have a can lid. So he can use the can lid on and completely remove the tin top. When I went to eat these for lunch, I took the lid off and saw this. It was good he wasn't home. There was a lot of rage. I'll just chalk it up to #languagebarrier...

We have a bird's nest in one of our hanging plants!  Roux's Humom actually was the first to notice, but when the plant was on the ground the other day, I finally got to see it!... and realize that the camera install guys suck at that "it will be like we were never here" thing... Put things back where you got them and no one gets cut. I'm really hoping that Mama Bird didn't desert the nest or get eaten in the few days that the plant was on the ground (Mon to Thurs).  Teh German hung the basket back up where it should have been.  Fingers crossed.

Super pumped this baby came back.  Teh Mom and I planted this one last year and it brings me joy.

Passionflower vine is out of control!  I love it!  I am kind of afraid it's going to take over those purple flowers beside it, so I might need to move those..

Being crippled = not being able to weed the flower beds.  I know it needs to happen.
BTW, Teh German tried to tell me the plant in the bed, at the back on the left was dead.  HA!  I was right!

Lurve these!

Random things:

-Steph shared a link this week about how pro-lifers should be called anti-abortionist and while a lot of it is very subjective and I question the statistics, but this line struck a chord with me:
There are certainly going to be people who will reply to this by shouting, “then women should keep their damn legs shut.”  No. Go crawl back to the time capsule you came out of. Ninety-five percent of Americans have pre-marital sex. Nine months of unwanted pain and possibly death is not an acceptable punishment for being unlucky while engaging in an almost universally practiced past time. It is the punishment for 0 percent of men, which is the correct percentage.

-In my SYUB linkup post, I talked about Dear Ijeawele, or A Feminist Manifesto in Fifteen Suggestions by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, a short book (50pgs), that everyone needs to read.  It included these quotes which keep reverberating through my brain and I love it...
“Your feminist premise should be: I matter. I matter equally. Not “if only.” Not “as long as.” I matter equally. Full stop.”
“Teach her that the idea of 'gender roles' is absolute nonsense. Do not ever tell her that she should or should not do something because she is a girl. 'Because you are a girl' is never reason for anything. Ever.”
And my favorite, #sorrynotsorry, Teh German..
“The knowledge of cooking does not come pre-installed in a vagina.”

-I need to make these Fruity Pebble/marshmallow/cake bars.

-The soon-to-be-released TJR novel currently has a Goodreads giveaway.  Not that I want you to be my competition, but this is probably the ONE books I've signed up for as a giveaway that I would actually read the day it arrives.

FÜNF

10 things that made me happy this week:
  1. Two-ish weeks left on crutches.  I'm ready to set these things on fire.  It's too bad they aren't the old wooden ones.
  2. Being validated at work that I was right and someone else was wrong.
  3. Driving to the butcher for steaks on Thursday.  It's less than 10 minutes away on low traffic roads, do not panic.
  4. Being able to pop my back in my hip brace.
  5. Mex 1 on Wednesday night as an outing because I was going stir crazy and may have been lashing out at Teh German.. oops.
  6. Meri snuggles.
  7. Teh German's patience and helpfulness this week around the house.
  8. My wedding dress finally coming in.
  9. Matching the Turvis lids to their cups again... I was trying to just ignore it, but I couldn't any longer. #OCD.  Bonus: Teh German didn't even make fun of me when I explained it after he asked why I hadn't done anything with the red lid he took off another cup.  #HeGetsMe
  10. New puzzles!

Weekend Review {1/30}

FRIDAY

Friday was a lazy type of day and it was good.  After 2 evening events during the week, we were in need of a recharge.  I slept in a little too long and had to rush to work in the morning to make it on time for my 0900 meeting, oops.  Fortunately, I made it right on time to dump everything in the conference room and start up the meeting.  Since it's a 96 hour pay period, those 9 hour days add up and I got to have a short day.  Around 2, I left work and headed to the gym to meet Roux's Humom.  After a good workout, we headed home.

I started working on the DJ's website.  I've officially given up on creating a client portal for her.  1- Nothing I'm finding that I would be able to build will meet her needs, 2- The things I am finding aren't compatible with the technologically challenged (her more so than me) and/or would be expensive to maintain, 3- The website I'm using to build the site doesn't have a client portal option and I really like using this website, I think.

Teh German came home and we were debating about what to do with the evening.  After he had just said he liked the idea of just staying home and figuring something easy out for dinner, he informed me that Twin Dad had messaged him about going out to a brewery for some beers.  He then followed up with that thought later when he came downstairs with changed clothes that he was going to the brewery.  I wasn't actually invited, but I told him that I wasn't interested in beer so I wasn't going.

With a quiet evening to myself, I spent 30 minutes debating whether I wanted ramen for dinner or if I wanted to go out and pick something up.  What this really meant is that I had to pick a place that would keep for the drive home.  Picking something up meant the dogs got to go on a ride, which was the perfecting outing for them.  I finally decided on Ye Old Fashioned since I could also pick up ice cream and bring it home for dessert for days.

After the mission was accomplished and my egg salad sammich and delightful brownie sundae were consumed (or as much as I felt comfortable eating), I hit the couch with my kindle (for puzzles) and decided to watch a movie.  A wild idea hit me a few months ago when I noticed there was a new Bridget Jones movie coming out.  I couldn't remember ever actually seeing any of the BJD movies, so I decided I would.  I started with the original, Bridget Jones Diary, and reveled in all the 90s-ness of the movie.

Teh German had told me before he left that the brewery closed at 9, so I figured he'd come home after that.  At 2150 I got a message from him that said they had relocated to a different bar.  At which point, psycho-Megan started to emerge.  The last few times that Teh German had went out for a beer, a beer became several too many and it was followed up by a venue change, which resulted in gin and tonics and him being unable to drive himself home.  Obviously, I'm a completely glass-half-empty person.  I checked his FB to make sure there were no gin and tonic group selfies.  None.

Since I had some time on my hands, I watched the 2nd BJD movie.  Equally 90s-ed, I remember seeing parts of it on TV at some point in my life since the part of her in jail was familiar.  After the movie ended and Teh German still wasn't home, I watched the first episode of Grey's Anatomy of the most recent season on Netflix.  After it was over, I tried to tell myself that I was being unreasonable for being irritable for zero reason and headed upstairs to get ready for bed.

As I was getting in bed, Teh German came home.  It wouldn't have been an issue, except that Meri and Phil were closed in the bedroom with me and they couldn't go downstairs and explore who had come in and was messing around in the pantry.  Phil doesn't overly care about these things, but Meri was not only barking, she was ruff at him at regular intervals, which was making me crazy.  It took 2 yells of "JUST COME UPSTAIRS AND LET MERI KNOW IT'S JUST YOU SO SHE WILL SHUT THE FUCK UP ALREADY" for him to finally come upstairs and see what I was screaming my fool head off about.  Lesson: next time, just leave the door cracked enough for the beasts to get through so they can investigate and not disgruntle me.

Having eaten his snack and being moderately intoxicated, Teh German got ready for bed and crawled in with me and we were out.

SATURDAY

Teh German's alarm went off  at regular M-F time and I was super confused and thought maybe he'd just forgotten to turn his alarm off.  Nope.  It was when he got out of the bed that I remembered he was going to work.  #outofit

I stayed in bed and tried to sleep in, mostly unsuccessfully until about 0730, when I finally dozed off again and then had trouble getting up at 0830.  When I woke up at 0853 I knew I had to get my ass out of the bed since Roux's Humom would be at the house to pick me up at 0930.  Meri is the best sport ever and we played for a few minutes to get me uncozy so I'd be more motivated to get out of the bed.

Right on time, Roux's Humom arrived and I was out the door.  We were meeting Twin Mom at the Charleston Kennel Club dog show.  We were going to take photos and see cute dogs.  I also did some shopping and picked up a fuzzy toy and some chews for Meri and Phil because I have no will power.  After the dog thing, we met Teh German at Tiki Taco in Summerville.  Based on the amount of Hispanics at the place (it was a building and a food truck with a pavilion between them), the food was very authentic.  That said, we weren't overly satisfied.  The food was good, but it wasn't blow-your-sock-off good.  They did have lingua, which is always a good time for me.

Cruella de Vil, Cruella de Vil,
If she doesn't scare you,
No evil thing will.
Saw this baby at the gas station when Roux's Humom stopped at the ATM.

All the little, hairy, dogs.
Sadly, all the other photos are still on my DSLR.  oops.

After Tiki Taco, we all parted ways.  I rode home with Teh German and it was lazy day for the rest of my evening.  I laid down for a nap while Teh German headed out with Mr. Golfer to a boat show.  When Teh German had gotten his hair cut, his lady had given him free tickets to the show, which was perfect.  I was awake by the time Teh German got home, working on the DJ's website.

Mexi-cokes are the bestest

Teh German was hungry, so we started dinner, steaks and potatoes with a salad.  I was pretty pissed when I noticed that the spinach I had purchased on Tuesday was already going bad.  Add to that the cantaloupe that I had gotten on the same day was growing mold and I'd had to toss it earlier in the day, I was very disgusted trying to pick out the least-bad spinach leaves for us to eat.  Teh German manned the grill while I took care of the potatoes and salads.  #bestteam4ever

America steak made us LOL

After dinner, we sat down for an episode of Sherlock.  I continued working on the website since I was on a roll by that point and because we're still on season 3, which I've seen.  After the episode, I continued working on the site and Teh German was messing around on social media.  I didn't realize he was waiting for me to say it was bedtime.  He ended up going upstairs first, but I followed him soon after.  We were in the bed by 2230, but it was 0015 the last time I looked at the clock.

Most of that time was spent reading side effect comments about the Mirena.  I've been having some serious hot flashes since the install.  I mean to the point of sitting downstairs where I'm normally chilly and sweating with thin pants and a long sleeve shirt on.  I used to sit downstairs with the same outfit and a hoodie on and a blanket.  I've also been having this issue at night and during the day at work.  It's the worst.

SUNDAY

Sunday was slow start day.  Roux's Humom messaged me to ask if I wanted to go to the gym at 0830, but I was still asleep.  When I got up, I messaged her to let her know it was slow day and if I went, I'd go later (hahah).  It was nice to get to hang out in bed with Teh German as we woke up slowly.  Meri had cocooned herself between us, which is adorable and annoying at the same time.

After discussing our breakfast options, Teh German and I agreed that we'd go to Holy City for brunch (cause chicken and waffles).  He had an invite from his riding buddies to go on a ride at noon.  We rode to Holy City and then went straight to the meeting location.  I didn't decide till we were on our way to the meet up location that I'd just ride with them.  I had considered going home and getting more website complete.

It was a decent ride and productive.  While we were on our way downtown to take pictures of the bikes (because that's what motovloggers do), Teh Dad called.  Not 3 minutes after Teh Dad got off the phone with me, Teh Mom called.  We had parked on the Battery and it was super windy, so we decided to go to a cobblestone street for some photos.  We were told by the parking enforcement officer that we weren't allowed to park where we were and we explained we were just taking photos and she let us be.  Yay for nice people.  We weren't actually there for very long.  We also pulled the bikes up on the sidewalk and took some pics, but because it's not a busy street, no one said anything.

Eventually, we were done with the bike porn and we headed to one of the guy's houses to pick up a vehicle we could put groceries in, then we headed to the grocery store to buy ingredients for a cookout.  Teh German had ridden with these guys several times, so I wasn't worried about getting murdered.

Bagheera is a lady, so I couldn't resist parking her by the pink flowers.

After a very interesting grocery store run, we headed to another house and started prepping the grill and having some snacks.  While riding is a great activity, it's not a social activity for sure.  While we were cooking, I was able to talk with the other riders.  They were all Turkish guys (foreigners attract foreigners) and the guy who lived at the house we were at has an American girlfriend.  Not that it mattered, we were all just hanging out and judging 2000s rap videos and making sure the food didn't burn.

After what felt like forever, we finally sat down to eat around 620.  The grill was small so all the veggies were first, then the steaks, but since we'd bought porterhouse steaks (since they were on sale), they were super huge and we couldn't fit all 5 on the grill at the same time.  It was totally worth the wait.  No pics because I devoured that shit.  Teh German and I split a huge ass steak, which was perfect.

Sadly, we had to eat and run since it was way past when we had wanted to get home (before dark), it was also well past doggy dinner time.  It was a chilly ride home, but we survived.  After the beasts were let out and fed, I headed upstairs to soak in the tub and get warm again.  I finally finished watching S6 E1 of Downton Abbey.  It only took 3 sessions, but I finally finished!  When I got out of the tub, I did my German lessons and a puzzle and waited on Teh German to come to bed.

Eventually, he did come to bed, even if I had to prod him with a text.  And just like that, the weekend was over.

This weekend felt long and short at the same time.  I'm glad Teh German was able to hang out with other people and that we got to go on a ride, despite the chill.  It was nice for me to meet new people as well and get to hang out with some of my people on Saturday.  I didn't go to the gym, and I definitely noticed Monday morning (#sadface).

Next weekend is BIRFDAY WEEKEND!!!!
In a strange turn of events, Teh German and I decided we were going to switch it up from NOT getting each other presents for our birthday.  I presented Teh German with a grand idea on Saturday evening.

I've been wanting the Roomba and he's been wanting an after-market grill for his truck.  After looking at all the different options for a stupid grill I knew that I couldn't surprise him with the grill and I'd have to talk to him about it.  So we agreed that we'll buy our birthday presents from each other for ourselves.  Meaning, I'll buy my Roomba and he'll buy his new grill.  Yay birthday presents!

Teh German and I also devised a celebration idea while we were eating brunch on Sunday.  We'd go to Thai Basil downtown and then go to the improv show.  Already there's been a wrench thrown in the plan since Thai Basil is closed for renovations, but that's a "simple" solution of just picking somewhere else to eat downtown.   Quotes because picking a place downtown is not simple at ALL.  Le sighhhh.  #Firstworldproblems #meganproblems #monday

Happy almost February, Gentle Readers!
