Five on Friday #237

EINS - Random Shit

After the hurricane season of 2019 and the general trajectory of 2020, I figured people would be absolutely losing their shit over the first storm of 2020.  'Taint so though.  Other than individuals who feel the need to share everything that NOAA posts on FB (/roll eyes forever), local news sources haven't really said much about it, no evacuation crisis, no bum-rushing the grocery stores/gas stations.  It's almost been.. pleasant.  Or we're so desensitized by 2020 no one cares.  Or, the least likely scenario, people are finally realizing that a hurricane below Cat 3 is really just wind and rain..  Maybe that's something I need to privilege check since I live in a house with windows rated for up to 150mph winds and not a single-wide trailer, IDK.

I saw a Twitter thread the other day about sharing your location (via GPS/on your phone) with your significant other and read the comments, because that's what I do.  I'm 50/50 on it.  Husband and I don't share our location with each other when we're at home doing our regular routine life, but if one of us is travelling, we (ok, me) I generally turn on my location sharing.  I do this as a personal security measure.  If I die or get lost or get abducted, I need someone to be able to find me (especially if I'm already with Teh Bestie, which is usually who I'm with if I'm travelling without Teh German).  I've also started sharing my location with Teh German when I'm running distances over 9 miles (races and not).

That said, I share my location 100% of the time with Teh Bestie.  This started years ago for the purposes of tracking each other during runs and then definitely when I was online dating and then when we'd make trips to see each other.. So now, it's just on 24/7.

Husband and I have been doing garage WODs in the AM and everything hurts and I'm dying.

Monday:
20 min AMRAP
10 push ups
10 air squats
30-second mountain climbers
30-second wall sit (I subbed for jumping jacks)
+2 miles of walking the dogs.

Wednesday:
5 rounds for time:
20 push ups
20 jumping jacks
20 sit ups
20 air squats
20 alternating lunges
(30:48)
+2 miles of walking the dogs.

Friday:

800m = 1 mile
+2 miles of walking the dogs.

This was our course on Friday and if that doesn't look like a penis to you, you're not dirty enough to be here.

Me: I'm sooo sore.  I think you think I'm exaggerating my soreness, but I am not.  I have run half marathons and didn't hurt this bad.
Teh German: Yeah but that is the feeling of your body enhancing.  Getting better.  That's a good feeling.
Me: Enhancement is not what comes to mind when I think about moving and something hurts, I call that agony.

I've said it before and I'll say it again...
If you are a vlogger or recording yourself review a product on video and you are looking at yourself in the screen of whatever recording device you are using, you do not deserve for people to watch your content.  There, I said it... again.

STOP WATCHING YOURSELF PEOPLE.  LOOK AT THE CAMERA DOT!!

New medals arrived.  Originally the Divas Myrtle Beach was slated to be rescheduled, but I guess they gave that up and just mailed out race packets.  So now I have to run a half marathon around the neighborhood before I can put the medal up.  Leeee siiiigh.

I almost didn't hang the Llama Rama medal since it ended up being solo virtual race miles.  Dislike.  But I did hang the graduation one since Teh PT Wife said we ran the miles for that one together.

In 2016, I shot a wedding for $300.  A wedding where I slipped in the river during their kayak send off and sprained my toe.  That wedding when I fucked up my toe and then ran the Disneyland races a month later on a fucked up toe and cried my way through the last miles of the half marathon...

4 years later (yesterday), they emailed me asking for non-watermarked copies of their photos and when they could get those.  I mean, I'm going to send them if I can find them, but I'm still annoyed that 4 years later an event that I'd like to completely forget happened is popping back up.

Latergram: I checked, I no longer have any of their edited photos, only the original raw files without edits and for $300 I will not be re-editing those to send them.  #SorryNotSorry.

Also, "When could we get those?"  You act like it hasn't been 4 years since you got married and all of a sudden you are popping up in my inbox?  How about a, "Hi, I know it's been 4 years, but I was wondering if it was possible to get another set, but with no-watermark, of our wedding photos.  Hope you're doing well.  Please let me know if there's anything I need to do.  Thanks!"

IDK, the whole thing is weird.  Maybe I'm making it weird?  But I don't think that's it this time.

And I know this is selfish of me, but I want to be like, I paid thousands of dollars for my wedding photographer to get the digital rights to my photos and he didn't even have to travel out of town to shoot our wedding.  Soooo....

Meri has decided that she is going to be storm phobic for whatever reason and I'm trying to not encourage it.  If we're at the island, she will come and stand between my legs and the island and that's annoying.  If I'm in the office, she will come and lay RIGHT BEHIND my office chair or stand beside me touching me.  I'm paranoid I'm going to roll her over or step on her, so I've taken to picking her up and holding her on my lap.  Know what Meri hates more than storms?  Sitting on my lap.  Usually after I do this, she settles in her chair bed (if I'm in the office) or on the couch/dog beds (in the living room).

ZWEI - Money Shit

-Groceries
-Workout things: whiteboard, new markers (since we needed new ones), sidewalk chalk for rep counting
-Over priced dog treats... I was VERY angry when I was buying that stuff but I know it's the good shit.

DREI - From My Phone Shit

We have a back porch friend.
It's a trash panda.
By trash panda I mean a raccoon.
We have a raccoon friend.

Anyone else carry around empty containers until you can write the item on your "store list"?

Looks like some fancy recipe site shit right there.

AND it tasted like some fancy recipe site delight too.

Decided to test out sitting on the ball.
It's too short.
Le siiigh.

Laziness, it's what's for breakfast.

Dogs

Neighborhood Watch, on duty.

I washed the dog beds and there was some struggle with getting the beds just right again.

She looks like someone poured her into that bed... lurve her.

And this is why she is nicknamed Big Booty Judy.  her ass is always up in my space.

When your snootervisor invades your space and then acts too cool for Mahm love.

Post exercise selfies to Teh German.

VIER - From the Internet Shit

I cannot tell you how long you will have to wait,
but I can tell you that you are being prepared for what's to come
breath by breath,
day by day.

Even when she did not have a lot, she continued to give her all.
-MHN

You have worked so hard.
You have given so much.
You have made it through countless moments of not feeling good enough.
And if there are days where you still discouraged,
remember: you have come so far,
and no matter how your low moments have made you feel,
they do not define who you are.
-Morgan Harper Nichols-

And yes,
it is true...
all along,
you have been strong.

This is me... except cost of living is real yall.

THIIIIIISSSSSS

Every day when I sign into my work email.

FÜNF - Things that made me happy this week

  1. RAIN
  2. Workouts with Husband.  We've worked out together and apart and I think we both enjoy working out together.
  3. Clean smelling dogs.. even if it mean a LOT of work for me and the Laundry Fairy (also me).
  4. Switching over to my Disney card as my main payment method to start building up some rewards.
  5. People being like, why the fuck do you have to do this and why is it so complicated every time? regarding the work tasking that has me job hunting.  This isn't just from coworkers, this is also from govvies who work for the company (although different departments) that I have to run in circles for.
  6. Percussion massager and foam roller.  Without them, I'd be dead because I would have starved because I wouldn't have been able to do the stairs.
  7. Taking PTO today as a mental health day.
  8. PayPal accounts for my 3 different banks so I can send money to myself easily without it being a hassle or taking 248219301 days.
  9. Sudafed and Advil.
  10. Matilda is on her way!

Happy Friday, Gentle Readers.

Some Shit You Missed...

June Things

Ran a local 5k for a medal.
It wasn't virtual because it was a tiny race anyways.

Husband (finally) received his "graduation" present...
a new exhaust for Lars-Ludwig.

LOTS of motherfucking running in June for a challenge.
Hooray for accountability partners...
even if we burned ourselves out.

Bestie Visit!

Teh Bestie and Teh Chief Smartass came to visit and we played games and had Willie Jewell's and endured 6 dogs being chaos monsters.

Bread pudding + ice cream!

Treats for the beasties

Mexican Dominoes was a huge hit!

Teh Bestie has gotten into golf and I love her so much I endured 18 HOLES.  That said, I was Teh German's driver and IDK if you know that golf carts are all-terrain vehicles that are meant to be pedal to the medal at all times.. but now you do.  Did you also know that I have the special ability to make a golf cart skid?  I do.  Teh German grumbled about my golf course etiquette but he didn't get slung out a single time.

These ridiculously long dog toys are greyhound viral right now, so we made a trip all the way to Mt. Pleasant to pick up a wide selection for Teh Ville and for Teh Bestie to bring back to MD.

Fire + hot dogs + smores.

Holy City Brunch after Teh German made the mistake of showing me the menu.

Dog pics on principle.

Non Photo Things

I rage applied for A LOTTTTT of jobs at the end of May when I had had enough.  I had lunch with the Citadel Alum who liked my research presentation and an interview with his company for a Tech Writer position that I wasn't really interested in.  A few calls trickled in, a few interviews were scheduled/completed. A LOT of currently company work frustration continued on, I gave a coworker a nickname because of the way they act which everyone agreed with.  There were several days that work made me cry which is the fucking worst.  I kept applying for jobs.  Company recruiter put me in for some company jobs on a different contract and I even applied for different jobs at Company.

Riding Things

Tail of the Dragon Trip

Some of Teh German's Biker Gang (one of them he's in), decided to go on a weekend trip to ride the Tail of the Dragon, a super curvy road (311 curves in 8 miles? or something like that, IDK) in E.TN/W.NC.  We did not coordinate anything, only paid for our room of the AirBnB before we even saw where it was in proximity to where we were/where we were trying to be... and I'ma be honest.. if I had looked, we wouldn't have stayed there since it was almost an hour from the Tail, but lawd it was beautiful, even if it was out of the way.

The trip itself was good.  Teh German and I had some serious talk at the beginning of the drive, which was nice to clear the air of those topics and then we could focus on fun for the rest of the trip, which is exactly what we did.

Dat mountain sunset

I could definitely live with this being the way I start my mornings each day.

We only did one day of riding, but we rode for over 10 hours, so we were pleased with the trip.

Dog things

Head tilts while listening to the songs of our ancestors (wolves howling).

She learned this from Olive.

Pax is giving my computer the stink eye since he knew that work had me EXTREMELY upset.

Meri hates when Sandy does this.
Makes me laaauuuuggghhh

She wanted me to get out of the bed and play with her.

In non-photo dog things, Sandy has decided that she's too good for kibble and her hunger strike stressed me out for LOTS of days.  We've finally come to an agreement that she will eat raw since she also doesn't go for rice either.  A real princess.

Non-Photo Things

Received 2 job offers.  One that paid a lot of money doing tech writer things, which isn't really what I want to do, nor was it a flexible position that included teleworking/etc, AND I was confident I'd 100% borked that interview so to even be offered the job was strange to me.  Then I spoke with the director and someone else I'd be working with and quickly realized they didn't want ME to work with them, they wanted SOMEONE to work with them... and I wasn't sad about passing on that one... especially after the lady tried to guilt trip me into accepting the job by saying they'd have to repost the job and have to go through the entire process again.  See: things that are not my fucking problem.  Also, how was I the only candidate?

I accepted another offer that did not have such good pay, but background checks have taken so long that I'm over waiting, but I realize this is the process for a govt job.  I'm trying to carry on with my current job without letting anyone know I've got my toe holding the door open and some days it is quite challenging.

Accepting the conditional offer spun me up into a dervish and I made a stressful situation worse by getting ahead of myself (because I didn't know better).  I was house hunting and getting pre-approved for a loan and realtors were calling and it was all too much.  The conversation that Teh German and I had on the way to TN was us deciding that until I have a start date, NOTHING is happening.  NO.THING.  It's hard because I want to plan and move forward and I literally cannot.

After I get a start date, then we will sell the house.  So ya know, if you're looking for a house in the Charleston metro area, I know a great place.  Well taken care of, technologically advanced, freshly painted in blue hues.  While the house is closing, we will pack up our shit into storage and relocate to live in Teh Chief Smartass/Teh Bestie's basement while we house hunt/close on a house.

Just a shout out to Teh Chief Smartass and Teh Bestie for offering to take us in, there are good people out there, but then there are like really fucking awesomely good people, and I'm glad they are really fucking awesomely good people.  No way we'll ever be able to pay back this huge favor they are doing for us, but they will have another free dog sitter option!!

I was also referred to the hiring manager for several other jobs that I am waiting to hear back from, spoken with several recruiters for various positions, and have an interview scheduled with another agency at the end of the month.

Through all this Morgan Harper Nichols has keep me chugging along with, sometimes, extremely relevant daily emails.
