runDisney Princess Weekend 2016: 5k Friday

Not gonna lie, I really couldn't sleep Thurs night because I was wayyyyy too excited.  I also had pre-race jitters about sleeping through my alarm and what if I twisted my ankle getting on/off the bus or some how sustained an injury that killed my glass slipper challenge (GSC) prospects.  Finally, the alarm went off and we were up and out.

It's only 3.1 miles!

Honestly, I had no idea what to expect for the pre-race area/start.  I wasn't disappointed, nonetheless.  There was a DJ and some hosts annnndddd 2 characters you could take photos with: Ariel and Sebastian.  WOOT!  The Ariel line was really long, so we jumped in line for Sebastian.

The characters were awesome with looking at people on the sidelines who were taking photos when people were switching out.

So I wanted an easy costume option on Friday.. and cheap.  Really, we didn't do exact costumes, but more character themed costumes.  I ended up going with a college student in Oozma Kappa (the fraternity from Monsters University) with my OK shirt and my sweat pants (which isn't far from the tye-dye shirts and pajama pants I wore at NCSU) and Teh MD-AR was Cheshire Cat.

Even crustaceans have guns.

After our photos with Sebastian, we headed to our corral to wait on the race to start.

We made a friend who was dressed up as Mulan!
PS.  She's a blogger!  Check her out!
PPS. Don't be afraid of the .info link, I've tested it out, it's safe.

We also saw the cast of Alice in Wonderland

Finally at the start line!!!!

3.1 of 22.4 miles didn't take long at all.  We started in the Epcot parking lot and then ended up running through Epcot, and finishing almost where we started.  I'd show you a map but Runkeeper and I aren't on speaking terms after it's multiple infractions.

The first character we saw was Goofy.
We did a drive by.

We definitely stopped to take a photo once we got into Epcot with all the countries behind us.

Pre-sunrise Epcot.

Drive-by of Donald and Daisy

We HAD to stop for Genie!
Later, we found out that vacation Genie only comes out at the run events, so we were glad we stopped.

Drive by of some pretty fishies near the Nemo section of Epcot.

Never enough selfies with the Epcot icon: Space Mountain

And just like that, 3.1 miles was done.

1 of 4 medals achieved!

We actually ended up running into Mulan again after the race.  She took the above photo and we took hers (despite the signs that said no photos #rebels).  We all picked up our snack boxes and pressed through the crowd to snack some.  Mulan said she was waiting for her friends who were in a later corral.  We eventually decided to check out which characters were out after the race and we were lucky to get in line for Ariel and ERIC about 10 people before the line was closed.  Mulan's friends showed up a bit later and were turned away because the line was closed, but Mulan called to them and they came over and joined us in line.  Fortunately, the people behind us didn't say anything.  Then again, I probably wouldn't have said anything to the grown woman who was crying because she was so relieved/excited to get to meet Eric.  I probably would have cried a little bit if the line had been closed on us.  Sometimes, the Disney magic isn't magical...

After we got photos, we found our bus and headed back to the resort.  Of course, we had to get some photos with the dogs in the daylight.

Pongo was gonna bonk my head.

Such a good boy!

Pretty Perdita!

I wasn't the programming Lucky was expecting...

After naps and showers, we headed to Which Wich for lunch.  Teh MD-AR noticed a HomeGoods in the same shopping complex, so we hit that up as well.

nomnomnom egg salad

I was tired from our walking around the entire store and I found a Megan-sized chair to nap in.

Why the long face?

After HomeGoods, we hit up a Kohl's so I could buy some new undershirts for Teh German with my Kohl's cash I had gotten from my birthday stripes shopping spree.  It was way more difficult than it should have been, but I prevailed.. and I also picked up a pair of dark blue fleece pants to run in for the 10k if it was chilly.

When we were finally done shopping, we went back to the resort to get ready for Pasta in the Park at Epcot.  This was essentially a special event for runners that runDisney offered a few months ago.  When I realized it included admission to Epcot an hour before the dinner actually started, I figured it was worth the $50.  I had planned to ride Soarin' with Teh MD-AR (despite her protests), but she lucked out because the ride was shut down.  BOOOO!  Instead, we headed to England to pick up some goodies for Teh Sister since she wasn't able to find them in Iceland.

I considered Princess weekend my 30th birthday celebration and definitely asked for a birthday pin when we got to Epcot.
#notsorry
I absolutely loved all the birthday wishes from the cast members.

Crocodile from Peter Pan.. Obviously my mouth is as big as his.

YOU GUYS..
YA'LL...
GENTLE READERS....

HERCULES WAS THE THEME OF THE PASTA DINNER!!!!!!!
I almost lost my fucking mind when I realized.
I fucking love Hercules.
It's probably my favorite Disney movie evarrr.

Seriously, I teared up a little bit I was so excited.  Pasta in the Park was a last minute decision we made and I had figured it would be a buffet dinner and then after dinner we'd go and watch the light/fireworks show.  It would be a fun way to pass the evening.

BEST IDEA EVERRRRRR.

When we first walked in, I was initally confused at the 2 characters that had a line for photos, then it hit me that it was Pain and Panic at which point the above excitement exploded from me and I'm pretty sure Teh MD-AR might have been slightly overwhelmed at my ability to overcome impending hangar for Disney characters.

No, but seriously.  HERCULES!!!!!

I was gonna high five, Pain decided we should hug.
I went with it.

While we were in line for Pain and Panic, we heard that Hades and Megara and Hercules were also there!  SQUUEEEEEEEEEEEEE!  We were informed that Herc and Meg were swapping out every 30 minutes, so we decided to get photos with Herc while he was out.

We can go the distance...
even if Phil didn't train us!
Herc asked if we had seeked out training from Philoctetes.

Dem guns.

After Herc, we got in line for Hades.  I could tell Teh MD-AR was getting hungry but I really wanted to get photos with all the characters and that overrode my need for food and she was extremely patient with me.

We were super close to photos with Hades when he had to go on break.  Le siiigh.  10 minutes later, he came back out and it was game on.

Hades set was pretty awesome

It's good I wasn't dressed up as Meg for this! lol

Selfies with Hades, because DUHHHH.

After Hades, we finally ate, much to the relief and gratitude of Teh MD-AR.  The food wasn't bad, but someone who was obviously a cast member said the food was crap.  For buffet food, I felt that it could have definitely been worse, so I wasn't complaining.  I'm a super slow eater, so Teh MD-AR pressed me to finish up so we could get in line for Meg.  I've never been more grateful because we were the last people in the Megara line before a cast member came up and closed it.  While we waited in line, we ate the Mickey ice cream sandwich we had split right before we got in line.  #Disneyachievement

last in line selfie!

Sassy

The Megs!

Selfies with Meg were an absolute requirement.

After we were finished with photos, we headed back into Epcot to find the reserved seating area they were holding for Pasta in the Park attendees.  It was front and center, which was awesome.  We were able to facetime with Teh Soccer Mom and ESPN kid during the show since they had missed it the last time they had come to Epcot.  After the show (which was awesome, of course), we caught a bus back to our hotel and prepped our outfits for the 10k.

Some of us had to do more work than others.

runDisney Princess Weekend 2016: Thursday

Teh MD-AR arrived in Charleston on Wednesday night and super early on Thursday morning, we were up and out the door headed to hang out with Mickey Mouse.

Phil and Meri supervised as we got ready.

I almost forgot my ears.  As in, had to run back in the house and grab them at the last second.
Whew!

6 hours of driving later, our lives were infused with some extra magic...

Our first stop was the Expo since we had heard tales of it being an absolute nightmare and we wanted to power through that.  Also, we couldn't check into our hotel until 3.  We had planned to right a little after lunch time and we were right on time.  This worked out nicely because all the crowds that had been there for the opening had dissipated and we had zero issues at packet pick up.

There was a row of stands for each race that was occurring that weekend.
All the volunteers were super helpful and friendly!

OMFG WE ARE HERE faces

PRRRIINNNCEEESSSSSSEEESSSS!!!

After picking up our bibs, we noticed that Jasmine was hanging out in the corner and there was barely a line so we definitely got some photos with her AND she even autographed our bibs!

Maureen was very awesome and took our photo with Jasmine.. AFTER taking an accidental selfie.

Jasmine!!!

After packet pickup, we headed toward the building the Expo was taking place at.  On the way we passed through a hall with character quotes.  I'm not one to miss a photo opportunity at Disney.

Some people are worth melting for.
-Olaf, Frozen

The flower that blooms in adversity is the most rare and beautiful of all.
-The Emperor, Mulan

I can go the distance.  I don't know how far.  Somehow I'll be strong.  I know every mile will be worth my while.
-Hercules, Hercules

My first Pocahontas sighting

Outside the Expo, the Footmen autographed our bibs and we got to walk down the red carpet.

Princess treatment!

And then we decended into the madness that was the Expo.  Truthfully, it wasn't really that bad.  About halfway through our shopping, Teh MD-AR realized she had lost her ID.  We agreed to get through the Expo then check lost and found to see if anyone had turned it in.

We met Miss Chiquita Banana

The strangest thing of the entire weekend was the long lines of people standing in line waiting to take a photo with various signs.  Whatever, it's Disney, I don't judge people.. but only because if they are in line for a sign, they aren't in my line for a character.

We still got a photo with a sign.

Right before we left the ESPN center, we checked lost and found and someone had turned in Teh MD-AR's ID, much to both of our relief.  From there we headed to Disney All-Star Movie Resort to check in.  There was a bit of confusion at first because the guy said our rate had went up $26 when we tried to check in and it was due before he could assign our room and we were quite confused until he realized he was wrong, I'd made a purchase at the Expo with my magicband which was the charge.  Satisfied with that answer, I paid and we checked in.  Before heading up to our room, we had to check out the store where I found my twin for Saturday.

MONSTER STITCH!

Race Turvis, bibs, and pins for all the races.

Teh MD-AR and Teh Soccer Mom were geniuses and planned for us to decorate our window.  I have to say, of the few windows we saw that were decorated, ours was definitely the best.

After we had a few minutes to settle in and arrange our stuff, we headed to Universal Studios since we'd decided on having dinner at City Walk since Teh MD-AR hadn't been there before.  I had narrowed our choices down to the NBC Grill or Cowfish (which I went to last October when I came down for the Fright Nights thing with Teh German).

We settled on Cowfish (because sushi AND burgers = options AND they have a peanut butter and jelly milkshake).  We agreed to split everything, which meant that we were able to try all the best things.

There were heaters outside, so we chose to sit on the balcony outside.

The Prime Time Filet and Lobster Roll

I forgot to take a photo until this far into my half of the burger.
The Rise and Swine Burger

Not photographed: Peanut butter and jelly milkshake.

After dinner, we were stuffed and we decided to walk it off by going through the shops at City Walk.

Definitely had to send this to Teh Sister.

Yes, I miss my blue hair.

Bird brains..

Left Shark and Right Shark

This... thing.. was $398.  No, I am not kidding.  None of the shirts from this line were less than $200, to include the shirts that were on the clearance rack.  This just makes me question WHO THE FUCK BUYS THIS SHIT?!

Then we went into this weird Japanese themed store where we found some more weird shit.. including:

cow-rabbit with a mustache?

Everything unicorn you could possibly want.

Our last stop was the Fossil store.  I knew better, I really did.  One of the first things I did the very first time I was at Universal as a teenager was go into Fossil and buy a shirt because I knew that Fossil was a "good" brand.  This time, I didn't care that they were a "good" brand.. This time I cared about the fact that the Fossil wallet I bought in college lasted for over 4 years and the only reason I swapped it out with the 31 wallet was because the 31 wallet had a pocket to hold stuff since I'd stopped carrying a purse.  I'd been carrying my 31 wallet for several years and I have been in the market for a new wallet for a while to be honest.

I wasn't sold on the wallet until they told me they'd honor a coupon I'd found online.  Then I felt like it was meant to be.  As I was checking out, I smelled their perfumes and ended up buying myself the full size version of their women's perfume and Teh German the travel size.  1.  I've also been looking for a new perfume.  I'm over Vera Wang Princess and I'll always wear Clinique Happy, but I like having an alternative.  2.  Penney and I were pretty sure that if a reasonably attractive dude walked by wearing the men's cologne, we might start humping him it smelled so good.  3.  I had a coupon.

I ended up getting this wallet:

YOU GUYS.. IT'S REVERSIBLE, I SHIT YOU NOT.  So I can have a white OR black wallet.  Ok, it's really more like a clutch, but whatevs.  Technicality.  It fits my phone and my key fob and my cards and I even have pockets for stuff I don't even have yet.  I lurvs it.

After I spent way too much money at Fossil, we were out of shops to walk through, so we decided to head back to the hotel.  I had requested the 101 Dalmatians section of the hotel (other secions: Toy Story, Love Bug, Mighty Ducks, and Fantasia 2000).  It brought me great joy seeing Pongo and Perdita and Lucky and the Kanine Krunchies bones on the sidewalk each time we went to our room.

Before bed, I got to chat with Teh German a few minutes on Skype and then it was bedtime since we had to be up at 0345 Friday morning to catch the bus for the 5k.

Confessions {3/2}

-Today is Teh Ginger's birfday.  While we only talk a few times a year, I still remember his birthday because it's mine reversed.  I'm not even sure if he reads/still reads Teh Blog.  #itsyerbirfday #Iremembered

-I went to the kitchen at work to retrieve an ice cream the other day and ended up washing the entire sink full of dishes, peeing, THEN finally getting my ice cream.  #whatthefuckjusthappened

-There was a never a day before February 2016 that I thought I'd actually sing happy birthday in German to someone right after waking up.  Well, it happened last Friday.  #bestgirlfriendever #Germglish

-I haven't blogged in 2ish weeks, as that one post about my book challenges was already drafted and actually was late to publish because #meganfail, and it's hard to want to make time to blog.  I don't have time at work anymore (yay/boo) and when I go home, the last thing I want to do is sit at a computer.  I always think that I'll do it while Teh German is out and I always come up with other fun things to do like sleep in, or run, or take the beasts on a walk, or do laundry, or puzzles and audiobook.  I want to do posts about the Disney runs and they are drafted, but not composed (as in, most of the photos are there, but there are no words).  #unmotivated #bloggerwoes

-Teh MD-AR decided she wants to do the Dumbo Dare at Disney Land in September (which I tried to talk her into before we registered for the Princess runs and she SWORE she was NOT running at Disney Land this year).  This is problematic for me (now) because House monies means the budget is limited and Teh German isn't really in support of my good idea of he and I joining Teh MD-AR in CA to run the races to get the extra challenge medal(s) (Plural because if you run a Disney World and Disney Land race in the same calendar year, you get the Coast-to-Coast medal + the Dumbo Dare (which is the same as the Glass Slipper challenge)).  #runnerproblems #disneyaddict #Idoitforthemedals #lookingfordonations #helpmeImpoor

These were from 2013, but MEDALS!  And the Coast to Coast is the same.
(source)

-I haven't shown you anything about House in a hot minute, but know that it's coming along nicely!

-I purposely talk with a southern drawl/accent under 2 circumstances: I'm talking to my Granny or with other Southerners who have a heavy Southern accent.  There are multiple reasons for this.  1. Southerners don't trust people who "talk funny" aka, don't speak like them.  People aren't generally nice to people they are suspicious of.  Generally, this means that people are nicer to me when I do this.  2. It's easier for them to understand me WITH an accent than WITHOUT.  #yesItalkfunny

-For those of you who were concerned (like 0 of you, I know), I finally started girl week 3 days after being home for Disney.  I'm not sure I've ever been more excited to have a period.  #Ilikemyeggsunfertalized

-The aftermath of said period is that the PMS was strong with this one and when Teh German insisted I was being grouchy, I said I wasn't, he said I was, I said I wasn't, he said I was, I said I gave up and started crying.  In, yet another, #bestboyfriendever move, instead of just getting frustrated with me and walking away, he came over to me and held me and we chatted about stuff that was stressing us out.  I'm still not sure how I got this lucky.  #PMSandpeopledontmix #keepinghimforever

-We still haven't gotten a dehumidifer from the landlord or house owner for the mold situation at Shitty House.  I'm so, so, soooo over this Shitty House.  #worstlandlordever #howmuchlonger

-I enjoyed how tired Meri and Phil were after their run on Sunday.  Does that make me a horrible Dog Mom? #dontcurr

-The Chiro was surprised at how out of alignment my neck was on Friday when I went to visit.  It popped WAY louder than normal.  #oldandcreaky

-I gave Teh German Fall Out Boy tickets for his birthday and the concert was last night.  I'm too old to be up that late.  We wore earplugs so we could hear today.  #notsorry #oldfogies #WHATDIDYOUSAY #HUHICANTHEARYOU

-I'm still infuriated that Runkeeper fucked up my Disney runs on Saturday and Sunday and didn't actually record the actual distance we ran.  I don't know how to leave feedback that will actually get a response, so I'm frustrated at being frustrated.  I'm probably going to end up switching running apps (again, ugh), but I'm so over Runkeeper.  #its2016 #technologyshouldjustwork

-I can't comprehend why when I go to Progressive and do a new insurance quote (vehicle or motorcycle), it's always cheaper than my renewal rate.  WTF, Flo?  #nomegusta

-I'm 45% fluent in (written) German.  Now if I could just remember what words mean, I'd be set.  #Germglish

-Monday when I did my first (of amabillionty) FB check, the "trending" feed showed me: 1- that Mad Max won best picture. 2- Some female celebrity wore a Brand Name dress.  3- Other female celebrity wore a Color Brand Name dress.  I'm not even sure why FB's algorithms would even think that I'd give 2 fucks about what celebrities wore to an awards show.  Will I ever be able to afford any of those dresses?  Nope.  Will they ever look that good on me?  Nurpeee.  #donotcurr #stalkmebetterFacebook

-I was aware of Til It Happens to You by Lady Gaga prior to the Oscars.  I think I first saw it right before the Super Bowl (because I was excited to see Lady Gaga performing the National Anthem).  I fucking love that song.  The video had me crying at my desk the first time I watched it.  Anyone who is one of the "1 in 4 women" or knows a "1 of 4 woman" will understand what she's singing about.  I watched a video of her performance for the Oscars and I almost cried at my desk, again.  I was super thrilled to see that there weren't just women on the stage at the end of the Oscar performance.

Coworker had seen the Joe Biden clip prior to the performance (which I didn't see) and it skewed his opinion of the song.  He felt that it was about drunk girls saying yes then saying no after the fact and calling it rape.  Then I dropped my bomb.  He said he didn't know.  I told him I was aware he didn't know.  I wasn't upset with him, but hopefully I did help him see that it's not all black and white and the song is about more than drunk college girls getting raped at parties and/or Ke$ha.

I never thought I'd be a 1 in 4.  I'm a badass bitch and most people are intimidated by me.
I'm a 1 in 4 and when I tell people they are shocked.  "YOU?" they'll exclaim.  Yep, me.  #neverdonetalkingaboutit #sexualassault #1in4

-Related to the above point, Teh German and I have been listening to After You on audiobook and one of the most difficult things for me in Me Before You was Louisa's story about the maze.  There are some references to the assault in the 2nd book and I wonder if there will ever be a day when gearing about sexual assault doesn't affect me in such a strong way.  #oneday

-I do not find it odd, ironic, or coincidental when people say they were thinking about me right before I show up or contacted them. Teh German and I often message each other at the same time, with no prompting, at various times.  The Chiro told me on Friday he was thinking about me on his way to work that day and I then showed up at the office the same day.  I emailed the landlord and he told me he had just been thinking about me that day.  #notapsychic #ESPisrealthough
