Five on Friday #80

EINS

It's been an amazing birthday week.  I accomplished all my appointments this week and I'm still looking for the adult in the room.  Thank you to everyone who sent birthday messages.  #youdabest!

The morning started out with birthday flowers and candles from Teh German.  The candles were in a chocolate covered marshmallow (he obviously knows me well).  He even sang happy birthday to me (in English).  I'm definitely going to have to figure out the German version for his birthday in 21 days!

Because a coworker lives beside Publix, she offered to split and pick up a birthday cake with me since her birthday is next week.  Not all grocery store cakes are made the same.  Publix's cakes are AHHHMAZING?

I picked that caption.
I didn't realize the balloons were going to look like ball sacks.. or spermy dudes..  #YOLO

After birthday cake, I visited my 2nd favorite person: the Chiro.  I even delivered cake to them because they are so awesome.  They even texted me on my birthday!  After a very much needed chiro appointment, I delivered birthday cake to Teh German as well.  Ok, and I needed mid-day birthday kisses.  #noshame  When I dropped it off, Teh German asked if I had already prepped dinner and I told him no and he suggested we go out so I didn't have to cook.  As if I was going to say no to that proposition.  I picked a place called Your Pie and it was a solid life choice.

Teh German: The Carolina (a special with pimento cheese as the sauce, buffalo chicken, jalapenos, cheese, and bbq sauce on regular wheat crust.
Teh Megan: Pesto base with real mozz and shredded mozz cheese with mushrooms on GF crust (I meant to also add bacon, but forgot).

With beer and gelato.
He's such a good sport for my selfies.

ZWEI

Remember last Friday when I told you about all my appointments this week?  Check to all of those boxes.  Here's the rundown of that good time:

Eye doc: "You have football shaped eyes and you're trying too hard to read the little text.  Here's your prescription for glasses."

Dentist: "Your teeth look really good!  How long has it been since your last cleaning?"
Me: "September 2014."
Dentist: "Wow, awesome!  Keep doing what you're doing."

Chiro: "You needed me.  Happy birthday!"

DMV: "Sorry, we don't do motorcycle tests when it's raining.  Would you like to reschedule?"

The massage wasn't that great and if I hadn't already bought Teh German a groupon for the same lady, I wouldn't have sent anyone her way, despite her handing me her card and telling me that she'd match the Groupon prices.  I asked for medium to hard pressure and she seemed to forget that when she was doing my feet.. but then she moved back up to my arms/chest and almost left bruises around my collar bone.  I also asked for her to focus on my face/neck and she mostly focused on my shoulders and legs.  Boo.

That said, now I really want to go back to the place that we went to when we were in NC for Christmas.. especially since they still have the groupon up.  House, Megan.. HOUSE MONEY.

DREI

From the phone this week:

I look like Chuckie from Rugrats.

Aka, Sophia from Golden Girls...

What I picked:

This is why my car insurance is so high in Charleston.  He had been in front of me but decided he needed to turn left.
The worst part was the cop that was right beside me didn't even do anything!

Thanks Navy for enabling me to ride in the rain without getting drenched.
Too bad the DMV wasn't as prepared as I was.

Sweaty Selfies with my Sweetie.

Friday motivation.

VIER

Have I ever showed you how cute my dogs are?  No?  Oh well then let me remedy that right NOAW.

He's winking at you.

FUNF

10 things that made me happy this week:
  1. Phil is internet famous!
  2. Birthday flowers that I can cut off the stamens and pollen tubes and still get to enjoy (aka I'm allergic to lilies and Teh German forgot).
  3. Getting shit done this week.  From volunteer stuff to work stuff to all my appointments.
  4. Playing with Meri.
  5. Phil being snuggly, despite his not feeling well.
  6. Meeting someone else that was in the Navy that never went to a ship and didn't feel bad about it (the eye doc).
  7. Puzzles
  8. Being able to kidsit tonight for a coworker.
  9. King Cake at work.
  10. Teh German waking up with my (early) alarm on my birthday and saying, "Happy Birthday, my love," first thing, before he'd even opened his eyes.

Happy Friday, Gentle Readers.
Linking up with these ladies since it's FFFFRRRRRRIIIIIIDDDDAAAAYYYY!!!!!!!!!

30 Years of Lessons

When you turn 30, it's like you're old enough to start giving advice.  Advice that you might have given in your 20s, but no one would have taken you seriously, because, "Pffthh, you're only in your 20s.  Pack on a few years and get back to us, Baby-Breath."

But now that I AM 30 (as in today), I feel like I'm obligated to be the adult, despite the fact that I'm constantly on the lookout for the adult in the situation, then there's that awkward realization that I am the adult in the situation.  Woah, scary.

Happy 3 decades of aliveness to me!

Let me tell you about what I've learned in the last 30 years:

Always tell your Mom/Dad/Parental Unit(s) where you are going.
Ok, I learned this lesson at like 4 or 5 or something, but they tend to freak out when they don't know where you are for extended periods of time.  Granted that time period gets longer as you get older, but telling them saves you from a spanking.. or being grounded.. or stern disapproval.

Learn to be self-sufficient.
One day, you will have to rely on yourself for basic things like food and shelter.  You may be the type of person who loves living with roommates who help make those basic things come a little easier or you may be like me and prefer not to live with someone who is going to eat your Oreos and leave their laundry in the washer every.single.time you need it.  Learn to take care of you and you'll go far in life.

Don't expect the education system to teach you everything you need to know about life.
Know what I didn't learn in school?  Anything related to real life adulting.  Oh I learned all about long division and cursive and interest rates and semicolons and balancing chemical equations and dealing with other assholes, but I didn't learn about what a pain in the ass it is to find a place to live or that it was so incredibly expensive to move!  I didn't learn how to buy a house or build my credit.  I didn't learn how to open a retirement account or how much money I should put into.  I learned nothing about investing my money (other than that interest rate part of whatever math class that was).  I didn't specifically learn that PE class (aka working out) was about taking care of yourself so you don't die at 40.

Be kind.
Kindness costs nothing and goes such a long way.  When you give more than expected (your time, your talent, your money, etc), most people respond positively.  That's when you learn that the way you treat someone is more memorable than the thing(s) you once gave someone (unless it's Frosted Mini Wheats, they'll always remember the Frosted Mini Wheats).

Never apologize for who you are/Own your quirks.
There will always be someone telling you that you should do something differently or that you're doing things wrong.  Those people haven't walked in your shoes to get where you are.  Be proud of the person you are.  Whether you're 7, 15, 19, 24, 30, 37, 41, or any other age.  When someone doesn't like your rambunctious personality or your loud laugh or your corny jokes, it's their problem, not yours.  #YouDoYOU

I'm unbearably inappropriate sometimes.  I love corny puns.  I'm short.  I have big boobs.  I'm extra efficient at laziness.  There have been times in my life that people have made fun of all of these things about me.  Those things make me who I am, if you can't support me, get out of my way.

Don't put your pets before your significant other.
Your fur babies are adorable, we know.  But they love you no matter what because they depend on you.  You are their pack leader.  Your significant other doesn't depend on you, yet they choose you, just like you should choose them.  First.  Every time.

Keep an open mind.
You will grow in and out of things.  You will be introduced to new things.  Don't turn down things that are unfamiliar or things you "already know of."  Not all cake is the same, even though it's all cake.

Work smarter, not harder.
Doing things right the first time will save you so much time down the road, so don't halfass shit.  Take pride in the things you do and do them well.  Impress everyone else and you might even impress yourself at the same time.

It's not always about you.
Are you paranoid that someone is talking about you?  Judging you?  Giving you a look?  Yeah, well they probably aren't.  Yes, you are shiny and important, but not 100% of the time to 100% of the people you interact with.  So when people stop talking when you enter a room, say hi and strike up a conversation with them, rather than be paranoid they were talking about you.

Accept yourself.
While you're looking for all your flaws in every photo of you, other people are looking at how green your eyes are, how awesome your hair looked, how cute you are together, how happy you look, etc.  You are definitely way more worried about your arm flab than anyone else.  Remind yourself of this every day.

Listen to your body.
Not like, ouch that hurts because you ran 13.1 miles.. or 1 mile.. or you burned your finger on a hot surface; we all know those things hurt.  Listen to patterns.  Every time it rains, do you get a headache?  Or do you get really angry/irritable/frustrated/indecisive when you're hungry?  Are you teeth always clenched?  Do your shoulders pull up to your ears?  These are things that are fixable, you just have to acknowledge the issues and listen for them when they happen so you can counter them.

It's not that complicated.
If you want to, do it; if you don't, don't.  But definitely don't commit then not do something.  That's the worst.  You want to learn to cook?  Do it.  You want to run a marathon?  Do it.  You don't want to deal with that person?  Don't.  Also, if it doesn't make any sense, read the instructions, and if it still doesn't make sense, ask the internet, it's 2016.  Someone else has probably already done it before you did.

Finally, if you're not happy, fix it.  The solution is NOT in what you're enduring.

Read receipts and social media lie.
Sometimes it says someone didn't read your message, but they did.
Sometimes it says someone read your message, but they didn't.
If you want to talk to someone, call them or talk to them face-to-face.  If they don't respond after 3 tries, move on.  There is no substitution for verbal communication.

Everything isn't always picture perfect and despite all the baby, wedding, cute animal, and sappy photos, there are way more times that aren't picture perfect that aren't distributed for everyone's consumption.  Just remember, even if they are prettier or smarter or funnier than you.. we all poop.

Don't read shitty books.
Shitty books = life wasted.  Shitty books to you may not be shitty books to someone else.  Don't feel obligated to do something because of someone else's opinion.. and that doesn't just apply to books.

But the most important thing I've learned in 30 years has been:

Treat people the way you want to be treated.
I know it seems so cliche to say it, but people often tend to forget.  You have no right to complain about things that infuriate you, if you do those same things.  Do you yell at people that don't use signal lights, but then you don't use your signal lights?  Yeah, that makes you a hypocrite.  Don't be that guy.  Also, no one wants to clean up after you either.  Common courtesy towards other humans goes a long way.  Finally, you don't know what other people are going through, so before you judge them, step back and think about the situation from all angles before you start making assumptions.

This is an adult.
NO JK.

Weekend Review {2/1}

Friday

I headed out of work a little bit early on Friday so I could run by the DMV to figure out my motorcycle license situation.  Turns out, I have to schedule a test since my permit expired due to a new rule (rather than just get another permit issued).  This was kinda sucky because to make an appointment, you have to leave a message with the DMV and they call you back.  Which is problematic if you're someone who doesn't answer unknown numbers.. which actually isn't me normally, but I thought it was a different company the first time the DMV called me a few weeks ago, oops.  Anyways, I left a message with them so I can get that taken care of and Teh German will stop giving me faces over it.

I also picked up Teh German's birthday present (but shhh, don't tell him that I got him something because we agreed no bday presents (but he went over on Christmas AND me not get a present for #bestboyfriendever?  Yeah right).  I know he doesn't read this, but just in case, I'm not putting what it is here.  I'll happily tell you if you ask me though.

After I headed home to hang out with the dogs for a short bit before Teh German came home.  I started organizing the guest room, which became the storage room when Teh German moved in.  We wanted to get the stuff out of the dining room and into the "storage" room, but I still wanted to have a bed available for guests... cause ya know guest room.  And also, Teh MD-AR will be here in less than 2 weeks!!!!! and there's no way I'm letting her sleep on the couch after she's driven 8 hours from MD and we're running 22.4 miles a few days later.  Ok, a total of 22.4, but principle.  No one is sleeping on the couch when we have TWO available beds in the house.

Ok, this was taken on Monday evening after we finished organizing, but whatevs.

After Teh German got home, we headed to Teh SC Teacher/German's house for birthday pizza (Teh SC German's bday).  After pizza we hung out for a little while drinking and chatting.  Well, I chatted so I could be the DD.  It was a good evening and we finally headed home around 10:30 because I was tired and the dogs had been in the crates for most of the day.

Yay for birthday presents from Teh MD-AR!
Extra yays for getting to see her soon!

Saturday

Teh German had already determined he wasn't working Saturday so we could go to the Food Truck Festival downtown(ish).  We met Teh SC Teacher and Teh SC German there at 11.  I insisted on getting there right when it started because I did NOT want to wait in line for 30+ minutes for food.  In fact, Teh SC Teacher wasn't hungry when we arrived and when she finally decided she was hungry, she waited 2 hours for Greek food (that includes standing in line and waiting on her order).  Yeah, we all know that I would not have lasted... which is why we got there at 11.

We got our photo with Cool Ray (the Stingrays mascot)!!

This was around 11:20ish when there was still space to walk around.

I started with a lobster grilled cheese sandwich from The Immortal Lobster.  It was totally worth the $12.  I actually yelled at Teh German because I offered him a bite and he was going to take the middle cheesiest, most lobstery bite.. WHO DOES THAT?!  He ended up getting tacos at another truck I can't remember, but he said they were really good.  Next, I got the "Summer Time" donut (blueberry-lemon icing) from Diggity Donuts and I wasn't impressed.  It really just tasted like grease with sugar on it.  I finished up with a peppermint mocha from the coffee truck, which was ok, but it barely had any peppermint, so it tasted like coffee which I don't like.  I know, I'm weird.  We were able to claim a table and we made sure someone was always at the table so we didn't have to give it up.  It was slammed starting around 11:45.  SOOOOO glad I insisted on getting there early.

Lines would weave into each other.

We were there until 3:30, when I finally couldn't handle my back hurting anymore.  Teh German and I headed home and rinsed off since we were dusty and sunburned.  We agreed to meet Teh SC German/Teacher at Montreux for dinner and drinks.  We actually ended up taking a nap since we were wiped out from lunch.  We set an alarm so we'd get up in time for dinner.

After getting up and feeding the beasts, we got ready and headed out to Summerville.  We were about to play some Jenga when we were called for our table.  I wasn't a huge fan of the food (I ordered a bbq sammich), but I ordered dessert when we went back outside and the brownie was AMAZING.  Probably because I'd had the chocolate cake at Buffalo Wild Wings when we'd watched the game there a few weekends ago and it was disgusting, so this definitely made up for it.

It was too chilly to hang out outside, so we ended up calling it a night fairly early.

Sunday

Teh German volunteered to help a new coworker move to a different apartment on Sunday morning.  While he was out helping her, I got motivated and started the laundry and headed to the Commissary to restock the freezer.  I had just finished putting the groceries away when Teh German arrived home.

Since neither of us had eaten lunch, we agreed on riding the bikes up to Sushi 101 and checking on House.  The sushi was tasty, but poorly rolled.  They didn't even slice the eel on top of one roll, they just laid it over 2 pieces each.  WTF?  Then our other roll was falling apart since it was stuck to the plate.  They normally don't disappoint me so much, but I seriously wanted to go ask the sushi chefs wtf they were thinking with the eel situation.  I had to rip/cut it apart with my chopsticks so each piece of sushi would have eel for the top.  We were starving, so that only exasperated the issue.

We headed towards House after we finished eating...  Gentle Readers.. After the debacle that was getting "sold" on our lot sign... MY SOLD SIGN WAS ON THE GROUND..

...but it was ok because this:

(from the front yard, right corner)
I'm standing beside what will be the driveway.

(from the backyard, left/middle-ish)
That small area will eventually be a screened in porch.

WE HAVE A SLAB!!!!
OMG OMG OMGGGGG YYYYYAAAAYYYYYYY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The excitement has finally started for me.  I don't even care how small the backyard will be or how big the front yard is going to be or how they actually put sold on the lot beside ours instead of our lot because #idiots.. WE HAVE A SLAB, which means that we will have a house soon!!!!

Slab selfie!!!
Obviously I'm excited, that smile is all teeth!
Oh yeah, and check out my (almost) motovlogger boyfran with his camera.

After some of the excitement simmered down a bit (barely), we decided to ride around Charleston.  We headed from Goose Creek to Mount Pleasant, then over "my" Bridge, then through West Ashley, then towards home, making a complete circle around town.  It was an awesome ride and seeing the slab for House made my weekend spectacular.

IT'S BIRFDAY WEEK!!!

Five on Friday #79

EINS

For Birthday #TreatYoSelf (thanks Kathy), I've scheduled the following appointments for the week of my birthday:
  • Dentist
  • Eye doctor
  • Massage
I've needed to go to the dentist for a while and so I figured since it's covered by insurance, why not.  As for the eye doctor, my (almost) daily headaches have persisted despite the depression meds the doctor prescribed to me (if the headaches were stress related, this would help).  I'm going to continue taking the meds for 2 fulls months to see if it helps at all, but when someone suggested eye fatigue from sitting in front of a computer all day, it kinda made sense to me.  But every time I go to the doc, they tell me I have 20/20 vision and send me on my way.  So we'll see how this works out.  I was told when I was in Bahrain that I was well on my way to glasses from staring at a computer screen all day for work, so I guess I really shouldn't be surprised if I have to join my glasses-wearing family.. but dammit, I liked being the family unicorn!

As for the massage.. duh.
I was nice and also purchased a groupon for a massage for Teh German as well.  That way it's NOT a birthday present since I also bought myself one.  I just happened to schedule it on the day after his bday.  I even emailed him the appointment confirmation so he knew I did it (obviously not a birthday surprise/present) and he texted me to ask if it was a scam or if it was real.

ZWEI

After going to Crossfit 3x this week, my legs are so sore that to put/touch my legs together hurts.  I wish I was kidding.  Rolling Wednesday and Thursday nights almost made me puke a little.  That said, we definitely got our money's worth this week (compared to say.. last week or the week before).

I guess that's what 100 air squats + 50 wall balls (the next day) will get you.

As if I needed another excuse NOT to run this weekend...

Me:

My brain:

DREI

18 DAYS until Teh MD-AR arrives in Charleston!!!
19 DAYS until Princess Weekend!!!

We've been planning costumes and food already.  I keep thinking that I'm just meeting Teh MD-AR at Disney, then I remember she's coming to my house and I get SOOOO excited.

There's still a few items I need to pick up for the weekend (which I keep feeling like is next week, not 2 weeks from now).  A container of water, snacks, a shirt for my Stitch costume, a shirt for my Megara outfit, and whatever costume I end up wearing for the 3rd run.  Also, Teh MD-AR decided she was going to be Lilo for her 3rd costume and I'm PUMPED that we are gonna match.

My goal for costumes was easy and cheap.  I'm thinking Baymax (just buying a hat), Mike Wazowski, or Eva from Wall-E for my 3rd costume.  I also considered Roz from Monsters, Inc, but I'm not sure if just a burgundy sweater and glasses would be enough to recognize my character.

We're already planning on eating at delicious places, like Seasons 52, which Teh Bear always told me about but we never got to visit.  We just need to make some reservations for when we'd like to eat on Disney and we're golden.  We will have the days to pass, so we're up for suggestions on things to do in Orlando that aren't amusement parks and don't cost a mabillionty dollas.

See what I did there?
PS, it was show you my/our costumes.

VIER

Someone on GoodReads messaged me to inquire more about my opinion on Guantanamo Diary.  I was unbearably excited to talk to someone who agreed with me that the book was complete shit.  2 whole pages in a word document excited.  Single spaced.  Let's just say hitting a page count was never a problem for me when I wrote papers for my graduate classes....

My Gentle Readers won't find me talking much about politics, but GTMO is more near and dear to my heart than most other things related to politics.  If you're really interested in a more detailed opinion of the book, let me know and I'll happily send you his questions (which were for a graduate class essay) and my responses.

PS.  I still don't think anyone should ever read that sack of crap.

FÜNF

10 things that made me happy this week:
  1. Finishing a difficult crossfit workout 2 seconds under the prescribed time (that was reduced by 6 minutes) on Tuesday and then successfully climbing the rope (x3) on Thursday!  #likeaboss
  2. Making all the appointments in #1
  3. Delicious leftovers for lunch every day this week.
  4. Ordering a cake for the "February birthdays".. aka MY birthday since that's when we're having it.  #notsorry
  5. Teh German being willing to eat most anything I put in front of him.
  6. FB friends that send me messages about how to remove the FB Trending section from my display.
  7. New tasking at work that is actual work, rather than Linux training.
  8. Kisses after workouts are complete.
  9. My Cold Stone birthday B1G1 coupon.
  10. Meri and Phil being adorable.
I climbed a rope all the way to the ceiling.. WHHHAAATTT???

PS.  I still have NOTHING planned for my 30th bday.  Well, except a chiro appt.  It really sucks when your close friends all live far away.  Looks like I'll just be celebrating my "birthday" at Disney unless someone has an awesome suggestion... :)

Happy Friday, Gentle Readers.

Confessions {1/27}

-The guilt of not running last weekend almost made me get my ass out of the bed when it was under 40 degrees to go run.  ALMOST.  Instead, on Saturday, while Teh German was working, I slept in, woke up and did puzzles until I was starving (mostly because Meri was laying on me and I, of course, couldn't disturb the princess), made lunch, sat on the couch and caught up on blog reading, opted against writing blogs for reading, and eventually went back to bed to read/do puzzles.  Soon after I got back in bed, Teh German called and asked if I wanted to come be social.  I only agreed since it was an indoor activity.  #puzzleandread #lazyass #unmotivated #Saturday

-I tried every self-guilt I could possibly think of to get motivated to go running.  Nothing worked.  I didn't run.  I told Teh MD-AR that she could tell me it was my own fault when I whine while we're at Disney.  #whatsatrainingplan

-In other not motivated news, I gave you a bare outline of the wedding, but at least you got photos!  It was an interesting wedding, the goal was achieved, and the bride and groom were pleased, so I am pleased.  There was a music debacle and I got pelted in the face with the toss bouquet (no jk) and everyone got a bit hangry (I did make sure Teh Sister ate breakfast and had a granola bar before the ceremony) and Teh Dad definitely "winged" his speech....  #hitched

This is the best photo of us since Teh Dad had a mohawk...
And we're all SMILING.
#mindblown

-Despite the fact that the watch Teh German got me for Christmas doesn't have any way for me to see the time in the dark, I still love it.  When I showed someone the engraving, they didn't understand it, and we loved it.  #bahlalala #bestteam4ever   (the engraving is: #bahlalala)

-There are people that actually believe stuff from TV commercials and that blows my mind.  Why do people believe everything they hear/see?  #beskeptical

-On Tuesdays, several of us in the office go out to lunch for Tasty Tuesday.  We car pool.  Sometimes adventures and mischief take place.  You already saw this if you follow me on instagram.  #adulting

Nipple rings, dirty car seat, and Minnie got a makeover with items we found in the backseat.

-Charleston has taught me to not judge a book by its cover for sure.  The place went to for lunch on Tuesday was inside an Asian market.  Not only did we get delicious pho (at least in my opinion), I was also able to pick up some delicious Asian type noms: mochi (peanut flavored), hi-chews, and flavored pretzel sticks (which you can sometimes find at the Target Dollar Spot).  Many places that I've been to in Charleston (and DC actually) are often small, ghetto looking buildings (and sometimes IN the ghetto) with very delicious food.  #EATALLTHETHINGS

-Whyyyyyy did FB decide that I needed a "trending" section on my news feed?  If I wanted to read sensationalized news, I'd just turn on the... news.  Just like with TV, the worst part is that people actually DO care about the things listed in the trending section and they also just read the headlines and believe it.  #peoplearestupid #NoNewsIsGoodNews

-Part of me is strongly considering walking away from blogging for the time being.  I know I wouldn't stay away for long.  I'd have stories to share that I wouldn't want to put on FB and this is MY space that people come to, to hear MY stories.  But at the same time.. it just feels like so much extra effort these days.  #onthefence #quitter

-MagicBands on my kitchen counter make me happy every time I look at them!  #Disneymakesmehappy #GlassSlipperChallenge2016

-I haven't done my taxes yet.  This is strange for me because I'm usually the person that does them on the first day that W2s are released.  #dolladollabillyall

-I'm now 42% "fluent" in German and doing them on the computer is way more helpful than on my phone since I don't have autocorrect/suggestions.  I've also figured out that doing them in the AM is better for me than in the PM.  #Germenglish

-I'm learning Linux at work.  The lessons I'm taking aren't lining up with the virtual box that I'm using, so some of the commands aren't working, which is mildly infuriating.  #nerdtalk #learningnewthings

-I have several options of what to eat for lunch today and they are all so delicious I'm struggling to decide.  Yes already at 8am.  #fatweek #notsorry #firstworldproblem

-We're hosting a super bowl party and I'm kind of excited.  Yes, about foosball.  It's weird, especially to me.  Carolina Panthers have never been this good, that I'm aware of, so this is kind of a big deal.  Yes, I'm totally a bandwagon fan.  Also, idgaf about Cam Newton.  We just need the wins.  #notsorry

-February is birthday month!  Unfortunately Feb is also Valentines, which also happens to be the mid-way point between Teh German's birthday and my birthday.  Plus my going to Disney towards the end of the month means we'll end up celebrating early in the month..  I tried to get reservations at Husk since we've not been there before, but they are booked for the 13th and I really don't want to go to fancy dinner after work because of stupid reasons (like the dogs being in their crates all day, getting home late, not getting to go to crossfit, dealing with the happy hour scene, dealing with traffic/parking downtown, blahblahblah).  #treatyoself

-I made a birthday reservation at Charleston Grill on Feb 12th.  #GoodEnoughForGovernmentWork

-I only feel mildly guilty for no gifs, so here you go:

Weekend(s) Review 1/18 & 1/25

Wedding Weekend:

We arrived in the mountains of NC on Friday evening.

This photo was the first art I noticed in the venue/wedding house, so obviously since it was greyhound/sighthound related, it was meant to be.

Testing the photobooth app.

Drinking to start the party off right.

Wedding was Saturday.

Teh Fam the morning of.

Teh Sister getting her hairs did.

Teh Sister getting her face did.

Post getting my face did.
PS, someone else did this.  There's no way I could have made my make up look that good.
She even used words like contouring.

Despite some debacle, they were wed.

Teh German and I of course looked dashing.

This was Teh Sister's toss bouquet.  She didn't do a toss, so much as she happened to turn around and aim at my face.  This sucker hit me directly on the forehead and cracked and hit the floor.  It was a good laugh for certain.

Earrings Teh Sister made for the other bridesmaid and I.

Post-wedding bonfire

Sunday was lazy/shopping day.

Teh Dad, Teh Aunt, Teh Uncle

SNNNNOOOOWWWW!!!

Morning selfies.

Hat party at the Mast General Store in Waynesville, NC.

Hats and cousins.

Ok, so you need to look at this photo in big to get the full effect, but this was the store's sound system.

Of course, Phil and Meri got treats for when we got back home.

The boys stayed home to watch the game.. Some were watching better than others, but Judge obviously had the best seat in the house.

Last night bonfire.

Monday we hung out with Teh WJL.

Tuesday we came back to CHS.

I missed my Philalicious.

Meri missed her humans for sure.  She's been extra cuddly since we've been back.

This past weekend:

Friday I had to work "late" (aka normal hours) because of the pre-construction meeting we went to on Thursday.  We were lazy in the evening and did zero things except snuggle puppies.

Saturday Teh German went into work and I spent most of the morning in bed until I was starving.  I self-guilted for HOURS about not running, but it was SNOWING in Charleston and I just couldn't put that on myself.  I NEED to run, but there was no amount of self-guilt that worked to get me out of bed.  It didn't help that Meri was laying on me while I was laying in bed reading and doing puzzles, because she obviously weighs a mabillionty pounds and I can't move her.  After I fed myself, I checked blogs and went back to bed for more puzzles and reading and when Teh German called me to say he was done working and heading to Buffalo Wild Wings (BWW) with some coworkers since someone new had arrived from Germany, I opted to join them.  We had dinner at BWW, then we met with friends for a Stingrays hockey game (we lost by 1 point, ugh).  It was a fun evening, but I was excited to get home and get back in the bed.

Sunday morning we slept in some, eventually getting out of bed around 10 since we'd agreed with Teh SC German to go to brunch at 11.  We met up with our group at Triangle Char + Bar.  After a really long brunch, we headed back home.  I proved to Teh German that I did actually have cable TV (basic, because I'm a cheap bitch) so we could technically watch the Panthers game at home.  We ended up watching Corpse Bride because it was on (because I can't NOT watch the TV) and I spent the hour and a half reminding myself why I hate watching TV... commercials mostly... and my inability to focus on anything else.

After the movie abruptly stopped (let's not call it ended as we didn't see the actual ending), Teh German went on a ride to test his new motovlogger capabilities (he's using insta.Tmoto on instagram and probably something related on YouTube once he gets going if you're interested, links to come once we get all that established).  He returned while I was chatting with Teh Dad and played back the video and audio.  It was really funny to hear him talk to himself.  It was too cold for me to run, so it was definitely too cold to ride.

Shortly after I got off the phone with Teh Dad, I started dinner because I had agreed to go to BWW (yes, again) to watch the Panthers game since he didn't want to invite people over since they were going to BWW to get out of the house.  Le sigh.  After dinner, we headed to a packed BWW and magically got a seat when some fans of the game prior to the Panthers game left.  It was slammed because Carolina Panthers (you get it?) and there was barely room for the waitresses to get from table to table.  That said, I don't really enjoy sports bars where you can smoke inside.  Blech.

If you weren't aware/aren't a bandwagon fan/live under a rock, the Panthers obliterated the Cardinals (I just struggle with saying pounded.. because it's so dirty and everyone is saying it.  I like to be unique in my innuendos, tyvm).  It was fun to be an environment where everyone but 2 people are cheering for the same team.  The 2 guys that were Cardinals fans left early.  For shame.

Teh German owns a Panthers shirt and I don't.
Although I do have a Carolina Hurricanes shirt.. So there's that.

It was decided while we were there, that Teh German and I would host a Super Bowl party since we have the appropriate channels to watch it on the TV.  I agreed to this because anything is better than a smelly bar packed with too many people.  Now I have to price out wings or pizzas.  OCD party planner mode, GO!

We got home right at 10 and I still had to put away all the laundry that I left for myself on the bed (I can definitely be motivated to do things if I can't get IN the bed).  Then it was lights out.  We were sleepy peepies (sorry, I just wanted to rhyme).
