Weekend Review {3/19}

FRIDAY

Since there was no school, I went to work in the AM.  I met Teh Running Bestie and Teh Chief Smartass for lunch and then we went to Waterfront Memorial Park to walk the pier and then walk to the top of the bridge.  Turns out, Teh German was right that there is a path from the pier parking to the bridge.  That's always the worst.  Him being right, not that there was a shortcut.

Check out this awesome shirt that Teh Running Bestie got me!
It says, "Very Hangry Caterpillar"
She gets me.

Mandatory Bridge Selfies!

After we got home, I fought the desire to nap and instead we headed outside to defuzz Meri.  It was a painful process that took 2 peanut butter kongs, a lot of persistence, and an assistant (Teh Running Bestie).  Again, I nicked Meri's ear, so I'm officially hanging up my clipper and Meri will be going to the groomer from here out.  Before her haircut, she just looked homeless.  Afterwards, she looked homeless and like she'd been living on the streets with mange, scuffling with the other strays.

Lionhead Meri.... LOOOOOOOL

After Meri's haircut, I carried her upstairs and we took a shower, which added insult to injury (literally, with the ear thing).  Because her hair had been so fine, it had been difficult to cut and it was everywhere and I figured a shower for both of us was the easiest way to remedy that situation.

After the torture session was over, the beasts were fed and the humans headed to watch the Stingrays play.

Sadly, we lost, but we only lost by 1 point, as compared to the 4 points we'd lost by the prior night.  The game was super physical, and Pax Romana is what I go for.

After the game, we headed home and hung out and eventually went to bed.

SATURDAY

Saturday we didn't have any plans until the evening, so we decided to go to Sesame for lunch and then check out the H.L Hunley, which Teh German and I had never been to (it was on our "last resort of things to do" list).  It was actually pretty interesting and I've decided I need to go full circle in my life and be a museum docent when I get older.  I want to be as awesome as our tour guide.  This is full circle since my first job was as a tour guide for a historical home.

The sub was recovered in the 90s and is being conserved and researched in Charleston.

Brenda spoke slowly and with a Southern drawl that I know so well.
I can see growing up to be like her.

Teh German has finally just come to grips with always taking a picture at these with me/us.
#ResistanceIsFutile

This is a mock of the inside of the sub.  It actually had to be "rowed", which is what my feet are on.

After the tour, we came back home and Teh Running Bestie and I took her beasts to Pet Supplies Plus to have their toes cut off (toenails cut).  After practically maiming myself to ensure one of the 4 dogs didn't escape, they wouldn't cut the toenails because we didn't have the rabies certificates.  The tags wouldn't do.  I was so unbearably pissed.  When we got home, I iced my head for no less than 30 minutes and hoped the nauseous feeling would go away sooner rather than later.  I'm pretty sure I was concussed.

Originally we were going to make dinner, but no one was hungry, so instead we had a snack and then some of Teh Cool Kids came over for some Cards Against Humanity.

Coincidental for Preggers Dental Hygienst to have to read this card.
But we made sure to give her good options.
PS.  Loading from a previous save was my contribution.
Apparently, I was too nerdy for everyone else.

Enough adult chocolate milk later, my head was feeling ok, the nausea had mostly passed, and I didn't lose CAH.  The world was right.

SUNDAY

Sunday morning, Teh Running Bestie and I got our asses out of bed and went on a run.  We had talked about running the bridge, but it is ok that we didn't.  After finishing up 2.3 miles, we arrived home and stretched and showered.

We had reservations at Hall's for the Gospel Brunch with the Cool Kids from game night.  We made these reservations in January when Teh Running Bestie was in Charleston last.  I don't know what kind of crack was on the bacon, but if I could just get a lifetime supply fo free, plskthx.

Tiny Tabasco!

Daintily applying his hot sauce.

Perfect spring day.

Palmetto State.

After we got home, Teh Running Bestie and Teh Chief Smartass headed back north.  Teh German went riding with some of the Biker Gang.  I stayed home and played games on my phone (thanks Microsoft for your Cards Suite which has eaten up my life) and took a nap.  Eventually, I got up and started to start doing homework (yep, that's a thing) and got derailed by cleaning up my office.  After the office was sufficiently organized, I sat down to do some homework.  Fortunately, it didn't take that long.

We were still pretty full from brunch, so we snacked on leftovers in the fridge for dinner and watched a few episodes of Vikings before calling it a night.

^^look at these cute beasties.  /swoon

______________________________________________

And now I'm back to the school/work grind.  It's been rainy, so I've been the lone splash of color, puddle splashin' in my rainboots around campus.  #likeaboss

This week holds:
-A calculus test
-No class on Friday (thank you, sweet baby Jesus).
-Gettin' my hairs (re)did on Friday.
-i5k on Thurs evening.  I'm dressing up as Superhero Stitch because comic book characters ain't got shit on Disney superheros (although all the Marvel super heroes are actually Disney heroes now).

It's the Citadel's 175th birthday this week, and they are having some special events on Friday/Saturday and I think I'm going to go be a supportive student and attend the events on Saturday.  If it's not raining, it seems like a solid reason to take Bagheera out.  She's in need of attention.

Also, I'm testing out Google Keep (which I had never heard of until I tried to sync my tasks to my phone Google Calendar unsuccessfully) and I'll get back to you on this.  I haven't decided yet if I like it or not.

I'm powering through some audiobooks like a MF-ing BOSS this week.  This is what happens when your audiobooks are less than 10 hours long.  It's GLORIOUS.

Teh PT Wife is having surgery today so positive thoughts/whatever you do when you think of people are appreciated.  She's also a control freak, so I'm going to bring my megaphone to her so she can boss her household around.  And ya know, she can yell at me from her house.

AND ALSO...
A high school in SoMD has been added to the list of "schools that have been shot up."  WHICH FUCKING SUCKS.  I like living in my oblivious little bubble where shitty shit that happens in the world doesn't affect me and mine.  That bubble has been popped.  The high school was within 1 mile of the NAS Patuxent River gate.  I had to text people I know and ask if their kid(s) were alright.

THIS IS NOT OK, PEOPLE.
I don't want to take your fucking guns.  In fact, I enjoy shooting them and I'd happily own one (again), but it's just not a priority for me right now.  That said, do I believe there needs to be stronger rules about ownership?  FUCK YES I DO.  Children and teenagers do not need to go to school in fear that some fucking crazy is going to shoot up a place where they should feel safe enough to learn.  We send kids to school to help them grow to be functional(ish) adults.  The only thing growing will be flowers on graves at this rate.

Keep your fucking guns.  I don't care.  But be open to stronger requirements to obtain a gun.  Because if you're as mentally competent as you claim to be, you don't have a damn thing to worry about.

Five on Friday #142

EINS - Random things

-Without school, I feel like I have nothing to bitch about.  It's fabulous.
JK, I have plenty to bitch about.  LIIIIIKKKKEEEEEEEEE...

-The fact that Meri has hookworms.  FML.  FML.  FML.  4 extra dogs arrived at my house on Weds and we're scoopin' shit all the time and uuuggghhhhhhhh.  Also, if Meri has them, it means Pax probably does too.  Fuuuccckk myyyyy liiiiiiifffeeeeeee.

-When the dentist office called me on Tuesday afternoon to tell me I could come in early.  It was about an hour before my appointment, so I left about 10 minutes later and arrived for the appointment 30 minutes early... AND THENNNNNNN.. proceeded to wait and wait and wait until my actual appointment time.  I was livid.  Don't fucking call me and tell me I can come early if you can't get me in until my appointment time.  That is time of my life that my ass could have been sitting in my house, where I like to be.

It also fueled the fire that my hygienist was a sadist that kept making me bleed then acting confused when I finally was like, "STOP."  I'll be making sure that she will not be my hygienist next time.

-I am riding the struggle bus with the news that I need to have a molar pulled (remember that poor baby that broke while I was eating a piece of bacon last year?).  As in, I am 32 and I'll be missing a tooth.  This is extra difficult for me because I have a thing about teeth.  I'm judgy about teeth.  I know, that's not ok, but I can admit my faults.  Several people have pointed out that at least it's not a front tooth and it's not a root canal/crown... but ya'll I'm going to be missing a tooth.  The principle of the matter is what is bothering me.  Since it's a molar there is no need to get an implant/etc and since it's in the back and so close to the jaw bone, an oral surgeon has to remove it.

-My 2 hour massage on Wednesday to celebrate Spring Break/midterm grades/Treat Yo Self/Because I felt like it was ffffffaaannnnnnntastic.  I went ahead and scheduled another massage with her for exam week.  The next appointment is only an hour, but the lady was awesome and if you're local, Brandy is amazing.  PS.  10% off if you check in on Yelp, which I found out after the fact and didn't even mind.
Bonus: She accepts HSA!  #GAMEON

-$158 at the vet for 2 rounds of dewormer for Meri and Pax.  AND I inquired about the fact that we never received Phil's paw print and they said that they mailed it out and if it didn't arrive, they don't know what happened to it.  Gentle Readers, I was fucking crushed.  And ragey.. and all the feelings and I was trying not to cry.

-#1 reason why I bought a cheap laptop for Teh Granny: She's contact me no less than 3 times this week to tell me that she "can't figure out how to get her pictures up."  In 2018 terms: She can't figure out how to run the slide show of the pictures I saved to the laptop.  TL;DR: She is primarily using the laptop to watch a slide show of images I saved to the computer.  I love her, obviously, which is why after I left the vet, I called her to give her precise directions on how to do what she was trying to do, even though I wasn't exactly sure what it was until she got excited.  #GranddaughterOfTheYear #Favorite

-I've gotten rather... "fluffy" since the wedding.  As in, gained 10-15 lbs depending on the day/time of the month/poor eating choices I've made.  2 things about this.
1- I bought one of those waist trainer belts.  While I feel more confident about my flab rolls not rolling out every where, it makes me cranky.  Apparently, having my inside squished and it being mildly more effort to breathe doesn't make me a nice person.
2- On my run this morning I thought I was going to diiiiiiieeeee. Carrying around extra weight for normal day-to-day operations isn't actually that bad.. but carrying around that weight for "strenuous" activities is a bit more intense.  Holy shit.  This is why it's bad to let your pets be overweight.  Same applies to your body.  I seriously need more energy/awake time during the day so I can properly cardio because I don't see my dessert habit going anywhere anytime soon.

-I bought a new oven on an impulse and it's Teh Chief Smartass's (Teh Running Besties "we're not putting labels on it" person) fault.  You see, what had happened wasssssssss... He's in the market for a new fridge but hadn't seen it in person.  So we went to Lowes and Home Depot to view some in person and I have this bad habit when I go into the appliance section that I buy things.  There was a red washer and dryer in the walking path on super sale and I texted all the GLCK neighbors and was like, anyone want/need a washer/dryer, these are awesome!!!  They acknowledged me for who I am (weird, random, and quirky) but no one took me up on it.  Sad, we could have been paternal laundry twins.

Instead, I did stumble upon a range that I strongly desired and I sent Teh German a photo and he wasn't really for it, but didn't really try to dissuade me.  But honestly, it probably wouldn't have mattered since I fucking hhhhaaaatttteee our oven and actually go out of my way to NOT use it.  The oven we have right now is shiiittttayy because the sensor is right beside the heating element so when the oven beeps that it's "at" 400 degrees, it's actually only at ~300°F in the cooking zone (since I don't actually cook anything 1 inch from the heating element).  This has always been an issue and Whirlpool DGAF and said that it's operating as it should.  Yes, poorly.  So.  Without Teh German's blessing, I bought a new range and I'm excited about it and want it yesterday and now it's out of stock at Lowe's and I'm going to have to wait a mabillionty years (no less than 2 weeks) for it to ship and I'm disappointed.

When this conversation happened, I loled:

-I'm listening to Hillbilly Elegy and I'm loving it.  I can't describe why.  I cried when Mamaw died.  I might just write and entire post about that book.  Probably not, but I considered it.

-The i5k is next week and I'm pumped and debating on if I'm going to dress up or not.  Many people nerds dress up, so I'm considering pulling Super Hero Stitch from the closet.

DREI - Things from my phone

Lunch with coworkers on Monday at Butcher and the Bee.

Fries, hummus, and bacon wrapped figs.
I was surprised at how delicious it was.

Teh German and I split a wishbone equally.
Then he was super sweet and said I could have the wish.
Then I was super cheesy and posted on FB about it and said that I didn't need to make a wish since my wish had already come true.
We've always been this sappy.

Found some cute kitchen decorations at Walmart by accident.
Teh German approved and put them up the same day, which was how I knew he really liked my choices.

Pi-day joke and celebration.
What do you call a snake that is 3.14 meters long?
ℼ-thon

When your coworker needs a room to pump in and options are limited so you make do by adding a curtain for privacy, a lamp for coziness, and a sign to thwart other people from using the room.
PS. Unicorn tape dispenser and rainbow tape were a birthday gift from Teh Running Bestie!

Snuggles with my fuzzy monkey.  /swoon

RocknRoll Chicago weekend is calendar official!
We have flights!

Pax and Olive playing tug of war together..
It lasted until Pax won because Olive gave up.  :\

My new range.. which may arrive sometime in the next year.  UGH.
But seriously, it is ordered.

What it looks like to leash up 5 dogs to go on a walk.

This girl's eyes are stunning and I love her and having a white dog on the slumber balls has been giving me brain winkles because of Phil.

Please read the sign above his head to completely understand this photo.

We went to Lewis Barbecue for dinner last night and it was our first time and it was ahhhmazing.

Teh German had already eaten his sandwich.

This girl!  /Lurve.

Teh PT Husband: This is why you have a husband with a truck.
tM: It was raining.
Teh Running Bestie: He was at work.
Teh German (tG): Someone has to make all this money she is spending.

Server: How were your Nitro-tinis?
tM: Good, but I was afraid my insides might freeze.
Teh PT Wife: Yeah, the warning label was scary.
tG: Don't worry, your heart was already frozen.

Teh Soccer Mom: You better bring me the box!
tG: ...Or you'll end up in a box.

tG: Ooo, look at that beer in a water glass.

Discussing a maximum security prison.
tM: It's down the road on I-26.
tG: That's the end of their road.

tM: You could have anyone and you picked this.  [Referring to myself.]
tG: I know.  I'm not regretting it, but sometimes it's still surprising.

Pax starts making puking noises which results in him snarling/pulling his lips back over his teeth.
tG: That's a pretty smile.

Day before President's Day.
tM: Are you off tomorrow?
tG: No.
tM: Ok, just wondering since it's a holiday.

Weekend Review {3/12}

FRIDAY

I'm coming off my anxiety meds and I've been feeling punchy lately (in a good, non-physical way).  What this really means is that I'm more likely to make sarcastic comments outloud in class vs when I would hold my tongue (ha!).  It's made my calc class particularly interesting since there is no lack of class participation from anyone in that class.

So what had happened wasssssssss....  Calc Prof was trying to make up a problem and wrote "Mr. President" on the board.  Of course, I commented, "Why not Ms. President?"  It was definitely a jest and he got that (I think he's realized that I'm not as much of a bitch as I come off as from multiple conversations not during class time).  As he walked over to the board beside me to work out a problem, someone said, "Thank God a 'she' isn't the president!"  There were several agreeing comments and I trrrriiieeddd to not say anything, but when the teacher looked from the board to me (he was right beside me) with a moderate amount of fear in his eyes and stepped back from me, I said, "I'm right here you fuckers!"

There might be 1 or 2 other females in our class, neither of which talk much.  But WTF MFers?!  I will not debate if H.Clinton would have been a good or bad president but the fact that their comments were related to a woman being president lit my fire.  Thankfully, my professor let me get that out and then reigned the class back in.

Otherwise, school was unremarkable.  I made a pit stop at Total Wine, then I headed to work for a while.

Keg shopping for Company.

I had an appointment at 5 to get my hairs did.  Just a trim.  When Liz didn't even comment on the color of my hair and I had to remind her, she made a "hmmm" face like she wasn't impressed.  We set up appointments to do another color (we're going bold this time because that BS she did last time just didn't thrill me) and then a scheduled trim before we leave for honeymoon.

Took Yurtle through the car wash after gettin my hairs did.

When I got home, Teh German and I agreed to grab pizza for dinner.  Before we came home, we made a pit stop at Publix and checked out with only beverages so we joked that we were thirsty.  After we got home, we went over to Teh PT House for socializing.

We were in bed before our chariot turned back into a pumpkin.

SATURDAY

Saturday was glorious.  I stayed in the bed until 1:15.  PM.
Then I accidentally got out of bed, and then I accidentally put on running clothes, and then I on-purpose went for a run, where I accidentally ran 4.7 miles vs the 2-3 that I had originally committed myself to.  I had a snack and did some sticker shopping for my new water bottle and still didn't buy anything (because really I'd love to learn to use Teh Dental Hygienist's Cricuit), and I spoke with Teh Dad for a short bit.

I did eventually shower.  Then I finally went and got my ear(s) pierced which I've been thinking about for over 6 months.  Originally I went to get a 3rd hole in a lobe, but I came home with 2 new piercings.

^^ left ear (left pic) is the 3rd lobe piercing.
^^ right ear (right pic) is a new conch piercing (the dark ball in the middle of my ear towards the edge).

So essentially I have a "'standard' piercing ear" and a "not so standard piercing ear".  I like it.  After the conch piercing heals, I'll put a capture bar bell in so it loops around the edge of my ear.  Were these necessary?  Nah.  But I felt like it.  The conch piercing felt like an intense pinch.  The 3rd lobe had me up off the table and almost saying bad things very loudly.  It didn't help that I also had a #BarometerHead headache and the light directly above me was in my eyes and was killing me on the inside.

I considered getting some other piercings done, but I was already late to Ladies Night and I was certain that Teh PT Wife was going to slay me when I walked in for being late.  In fact, she was talking about me when I walked in the door, so ya know.... anything could happen.  I was late because I first went to the piercing place that did my rook/daith and the lady said the wait would have been about 1.5 hours and I said nopeeeeeee and she suggested I go to the Summerville location, which I did.  A few others were in front of me, but it wasn't that long of a wait.  There were no less than 5 others that walked in after me from the N.Chs location, so it was good timing.

I arrived to Ladies Night 30 minutes late.  Overall, it wasn't a bad night.  I did get annoyed when someone almost pushed me out of my chair in their drunken reaction to something and it had been pretty "cackly" all night and despite the tramadol I had taken when I got home and the adult beverage I had consumed, my head was still hurting.

PS.  This bottle was empty.
There was 1/4 of it left when I brought it out and I shared with everyone.
So I am not the alcohol this photo makes me look like.
Ish.

I finally headed home around 11 and joined Teh German in the bed.

SUNDAY

The dreaded day of springing forward was upon us.  I was still fighting the headache, but I got up and fed the dogs and searched for poop to bring to the vet and did a load of laundry and then went back to bed.  I slept on and off until it was time to FaceTime with Auntie P.  Teh German noticed that we hadn't gotten to FaceTime with her since NYE... thus my persistent asking when we were going to FaceTime.

After FaceTime, Teh German cleaned up and headed out to ride Bob with his motorcycle gang.  I stayed home and was super boring and it was excellent.  I did 2 puzzles and took a nap.

The other puzzle was a Mickey puzzle that I failed to take photographic evidence of, but I have about 1/5 of it left to do and then the table will be cleared again.  Teh German came home while I was napping in the evening and instead of waking me, he let me sleep, which meant that dinner was started late and we didn't end up eating until around 8:30, by which point Teh German was in full-blown hangry mode.  Ugh.

I had made a new meatloaf recipe with a mushroom gravy and I was pretty impressed, despite the amount of work it took and the ingredients I left out.  Oops.  I had to practically force Teh German to help me in the kitchen while I was cooking.  I told him that he had gotten to do what he wanted all day and so did I, and the fact that he was out didn't excuse him from helping with dinner.  I can often tell who he has been hanging around when he comes back home based on his behavior.  This is the standard behavior post-biker gang.

After dinner was consumed (in record time), we watched the final episode of Mad Men.  I'm left trying to digest all the little things that were insinuated and imagining the future of Don and Co.  I won't lie, I was most happy for the way Peggy's story worked out because Peggy was the character I most identified with.  I wanted her story to work out.  I was kinda disappointed she didn't partner with Joan, but I got it in the end.  I told Timo he was my Stan and mostly I wanted that to mean, "You can rub my shoulders anytime you want."

After prepping dog dinner, doing a load of laundry, and other bedtime routines, it was finally sleepy time.

______________________________________________

A fantastically wonderful lazy weekend.  I accidentally left my computer charger at work, which meant that I didn't get on the computer for most of the weekend and it was fantastic.

This week includes:
-Some spring break homework.
-Dentist appt on Tues.
-Massage on Weds.
-Pest control on Thurs.
-Teh Running Bestie and BF will be arriving on Weds night.  We haven't planned any events yet, other than brunch at Hall's on Sunday.  I did con Teh Running Bestie into bringing running shoes with the intention to run the Bridge at some point, but we'll see if we make it happen.  I'm teleworking on Friday because it's Spring Break and I need to celebrate somehow.  Although sleeping until 1:15 was definitely a good start on that.

Happy Middle of March, Gentle Readers!
